DobeWan's First Grow! LA Confidential & 24K Gold - LED - 3x3 - Coco

Try the sand and get sticky cards to trap any adults

Will do boss. I haven't seen any actual bugs yet but by the time I do it'll probably be further along than I'd like. So better to assume I'm making the right diagnosis now and nip it in the bud.

I didn't see any either, but trapped two on the sticky card. Sneaky little buggers.

I got sticky traps but not sand. The garden center close by had its sand stored outside, and although it was bagged, several bags had green growth inside. I figured the better bet was to avoid inadvertently introducing something via the sand, so I'll look elsewhere for sand tomorrow.

40V!

With all of the defoliation and training over the last couple of days, it's finally starting to feel like I can see the end game for these plants. Interestingly I've seen a couple of asymmetric nodes on each of the plants - I read in another journal this is a sign of maturity.

LA Confidential #1:

I defoliated and trained this lady for the first time tonight. I tied most of the new top growth that was all clustered around the main stalk to the associated branches underneath to open things up a little. This is my reference plant - because I've barely stressed it, I can see how the unmolested leaves look and know how much my clumsy training has affected the other plants!

LA Confidential #2:

Defoliation and training tonight on her as well. Took a huge fan leaf to open things up a bit. It turns out when I tried to save the broken branch, I accidentally fimmed the top on that side, so who knows what'll come of it. I pulled all of the new stalks along the main stem back into the more open space at the bend of the stalk. The second pic is from behind the stalk - it basically bends and goes straight ahead. In the top down pic, the stalk goes into the ground roughly below the central point of that largest fan leaf, directly down from the LA #2 sign. I'll probably snip that fan leaf tomorrow - it's limiting the growth underneath it at this point.

The 24Ks are pretty far along with their defoliation and training at this point - not a lot more left before I start letting the main tops grow upward.

Nothing whatsoever on the sticky traps. Meanwhile, I've managed to damage leaves twice, once on a delicate little top. Have we noticed a theme yet? Yeah, I have clumsy hands for this kind of thing. Thankfully it's not brain surgery!

In any case, the 24Ks were just too bushy to safely place one, so I removed one of the traps and left one in the only "safe" spot.

Everything looked good at lights on. Those 24Ks are getting unruly. The plants seem to have roots everywhere now. I feel like I'm a couple of weeks from flipping to flower.

41V!

LA1 keeps chugging along. LA2 looks more gnarled as I cut away the fan leaves, but I'm hoping the light will get the growth down there popping. Loving the 24Ks! 24K1 has some ruffles going on again, I'll dial her back to 50% nutes to see if it helps. She's pretty sensitive. 24K2 though... :circle-of-love:

Looking good!

The two northern lights in my tent have their own nute and water preferences. Funny, because I would have thought it was only for different strains. I guess, just like siblings, the dna and personalities can be quite different.

I'm wondering if I have 4 different phenotypes between the 2 strains. The leaves on the 2 LA Confidentials are different enough that I'm guessing they're different phenotypes. I'm less sure about the 24K because visually they look pretty similar, it's just that one plant can get the ruffled look and the other doesn't. I'd love to get different phenotypes! Especially of the 24K since there are clear differences between the phenotypes.

43V!

The 24Ks have reached the limit of their horizontal growth - there's just no more room. Now, I have to let them grow up. Already the training appears to be paying off.

LA1 got some defoliation but was again mostly left alone. LA2 saw its top growth really pop in the last day or so. Amazing what a little damage will cause the plant to do. Speaking of which, I managed to break another couple of its branches. I've abused this poor plant, hopefully she'll still reward me!

Thanks for stopping by! How did your Skywalker Kush turn out? Sounds like you didn't get as big a yield as you'd hoped but that the smoke was good? I've been enjoying Skywalker OG as an afternoon / evening vape lately.

I don't smoke but when I gave em out to my buddies(who ALL smoke). They had nothing but good things to say. A few em love those boutique buds, and they said they would pay top shelf for em at the dispensaries. At least $55 for an 1/8th. One of my buddies complained that it was too sticky lol.

As far as yield, I was super bummed but glad I got my first grow under my belt. Learned a lot and my next grow is already out growing my tent.

Thanks! I'll post up some more pics this morning. I took almost all of the ties off last night, so flipping is not too far off, and it's becoming more and more real that I can make this happen!

Morning of 45V! I usually take the photos after the ladies wake up in the evening, so consider this bonus coverage!

LA1 is showing some signs of light burn, so I moved the lamp up. I was trying to keep things optimal for the other 3 plants and made it too close for the taller LA1.

j01v45-LA1-002-900x600.jpg

I'm trying to keep LA2's middle open but those new tops are delicate and pointing straight up. I've already damaged one although it appears to have hung on. But it's off limits from further LST for now.

As for the 24Ks, I've removed almost all of the ties, so they're growing straight up now. I feel like they'll catch LA1 in days, and when they do flipping to flower may become a reality. I'm loving where I have the 24Ks now - I feel like they've taught me a lot and now they're thriving.

24K1 is the bushier looking of the two.

j01v45-24K1-001-900x600.jpg
j01v45-24K1-002-900x600.jpg

But I wonder if I'll ultimately get more out of 24K2 given those strong tops.

Looking good Dobe!, looks like you have a 9 finger plant in your group also...

I did some serious trimming today for the scrog net...Leaf salad anyone?
plants_6-11-17_005.JPG

I pinched all of the huge fan leaves off, and some of the spindly looking undergrowth, started to lollypop the base and put the net on, it was a bittersweet process but something that needed to be done before the scrog.

We will see how they look in the AM and post picture tomorrow night, right now the look like they went through a hailstorm, bare and nekkid!
My plan is to go 12/12 on the 19th of this month depending on how they react to the abuse they received today, if I have to give them another week, no big deal. The coco plants are still bigger than the RDWC, but not by much, the RDWC have started to catch up, but as you can see in the photos, the White Widow ladies (right side) are smaller than the Purple Kush ladies...all pre-flower signs look good on every plant (so far!)

Keep up the good work!!:thumb:

Looking awesome OTM! I'll be interested to see if I'm ready to go to 12/12 on the 19th as well. I have nothing compelling me to go sooner other than impatience! Like you said, if they're not ready in a week, no big deal.

I still haven't decided whether I'll SCROG but I'm leaning to no. I think the training I did is likely enough.

I'm surprised your coco plants are bigger. Then again, everyone sings the virtues of coco so maybe I shouldn't be!

I am surprised as well, I don't think it will last and the RDWC gals are showing good steady growth, but I expect them to be as good, the 5 gal smart pots are doing their job air pruning the roots already, makes me wonder if I should have went 7 gal!

Here are photos I took last night 24 hrs after the aggressive trimming, the scrog screen was 1" above the tallest leaves after trim and touching the bottom 24 hrs later, I will help them find their way a little tonight but over all they didn't seem to mind my aggressive trimming.

Because of the design of my RDWC and the space between the rows of buckets I will need to work everything to the center, the next grow I plan on relocating my shut-off valves which will allow me to get the rows 8" closer together, this was supposed to be a 4 plant grow so in a way I am glad I have enough space for the coco gals!:slide:

I did notice that the stems that I had tied down did not move after all ties were removed so far, it seems once trained they stay that way!

We're really close on a lot of the experience right now then based on everything you're describing.

It's funny that you talked about leaf salad from your trimmings in your previous post. I couldn't help but think, looking at the 24Ks when I opened the tent (I'm at 47V), that the training has them looking like big bowls of salad!

I did my more aggressive training and trimming over the course of a couple of weeks from about 30V, with the most defoliation in the late 30s. There are a few ties here and there, mostly because LA2 is a bit of botched training job I'm salvaging, but the 24Ks are only getting tied to get the canopy even at this point and LA1 is getting no training at all. I'm pretty happy with the results of my 24K training - I think I've given myself a good basis to keep an even canopy filled with top growth. My LA training didn't work out as I'd planned but I learned a lot about how to get it right next time.

I'm really interested to see how yours respond to the SCROG - both are strains I could see myself growing. It might take a while for me to get to Purple Kush but it's such an important strain in my appreciation of cannabis that I'm sure I'll grow it eventually!

I'll take a few pics later, after the ladies have had a chance to perk up after lights on!
