They are giving you the best bang for your buck. I know I might start a war but THC and terpene production from MH/HPS are better for bud quality and yield.
If you don't mind the extra running cost stick with it. 600w cover enough space in a tent your size.
I haven't tried LEDs COBs and don't think I'm going to top what I'm doing now using them. The cost is the only thing that appeals but for the sake of saving on the electric bill (and then to lose yield) doesn't suit my scenario!!
But I'm going to give it a go in the near future just to show HPS rules
I do agree the terpene production and overall end product is better, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. I am no doubt content with my end product, but I always wonder if I can do better, it is definitely addicting to grow cannabis more than to consume it! I think people run into yield and quality issues when they try and replace a 1000w DE HPS with some cheap blurple panel that draws like 500w that they advertise as being a replacement for 1000w of HID light, the energy savings with what I would eventually like to build will be negligible, but I am doing it for a multitude of reasons not to just save power. The LED definitely stacks the nodes a lot tighter during veg and I like the ability to come up with my own "recipe" of light by selecting different kelvin rated chips or by using even SMD's in conjunction with the COBs. Do I get good results with CMH for veg and DE HPS for flower? Yes, do I think I'm growing to my full potential? Not so much, I've got the CO2, RO water filtration and nutes fairly dialed in, lighting, grow media and containers are where I really want to improve though!
