Dick23rk's Fresh Start: Mantis Nutrients Featuring MedicGrow's New Spectrum X+ 880w Light Panel

Okay @dick23rk

Let's start out with a nutrient chart so you can see what I am talking about. There are many ph charts, so we will use this one for the time being. The recommended ph range is normally around 5.8 to 6.3 for cannabis. Notice the nutrient uptake for your ph. I know you said it is buffer, but it is buffer to low for nutrient uptake which I believe is causing many of your problems.

I would start by doing a flush for about 30 minutes in 200ppm's of cal-mag. then when you make a new batch of solution ph it to 6.1

Also, a floral spray would cause a direct intake of magnesium. Dissolve 1 tablespoon of Epson Salt to a gallon of water (ph to about 6.3) and spray just before light go off. Do this for about a week an see what happens.

After a week of this we well she if she needs anything else.

Hope this helps,

I know one of your first questions is why are my roots snow white, isn't that a sign of a health plant and the answer is yes. I believe you are pulling a small amount nutrient out of the water even at the low ph, and right now that is the only answer I have for the roots. Think about doing what I mentioned for a week or two and I think you will see a great improvement.

Give that ph a bump to about 6.1 even if you don't flush.

Stay safe, and grow well my friend,

Tok..

Hey tok, thanks for the info and the willingness to help.

I'm going to have to ask the nutrient rep about using ph up with this product. Where the nutrients have ph buffers, I'm not sure that if I raise the ph that it will stay there. The buffers are supposed to keep the ph between 5.2 and 6.2 as the plant feeds. I understand the charts and that my ph is low, I just haven't gone too crazy on making big changes as of right now.

Currently I do not plan on mixing a new res solution, one of the things I've seen about these nutrients is the fact that I don't need to do res changes every week or 2 like other lines. I was advised to do a change out prior to flipping to flower and that's it.

The Epsom salt spray I could give a whirl for sure though. I know the wife has a little bucket of it here somewhere. I'll get that geared up later today.

Not trying to disregard any of your help here, I really do appreciate it. I was never expecting great plants out of the dwc on my first go around, but also wanted to test out this nutrient line in a few different setups. I'll talk to the rep about the ph up though for sure. Thank you

It's all cool @dick23rk

I just know how over whelming DWC can be the first time.

This will help the green her up again. Use gardening type Epson salt , and if you spray about 15 minutes before lights out, you will not have an issue with light burn.

No worry's mate.

I did not check to see what nutrient line you were using, before I suggested change. You are 100% correct about checking with them first before making any changes in the ph.

Stay safe, and grow well my friend,

Tok..

That's why I decided to do it amongst 10 other potted plants, if I screwed up, well I screwed up lol then it's not a huge loss, and I also used freebie seeds.

Thanks for the help my friend. I'll see if I can find some gardening epsom salts.

**Potted Plant Update*Photo Dump*Day 23 Flower**

Hello everyone, I hope you're having a fabulous weekend! The sun is shining, it's going to be hot hot hot for the next few days, dead of summer weather in the middle of spring. I was outside most of the morning, watering veggie seedlings and getting the veggie garden tilled again as well as my plot for some outdoor canna plants. Once it got a little too hot out there, I retreated to the basement grow room for some defoliation time.

During defoliation I was able to grab a bunch of before and after photos. I don't go too crazy with stripping most times, this was just to get rid of some fan leaves that are blocking lower bud sites from getting any light. Rather than cutting off a bunch of branches and stunting the plants, I just took what I thought needed to go. I took a little from the top for more light and the little from the bottom for air flow and to make it a little easier for getting in there to water. A few lower tiny branches were snipped off as well that wont amount to anything.

Feeding day will likely be tomorrow again, the pots still have some weight to them today. All these plants are doing great and they didn't mind getting haircuts at all. Still no signs of any issues on these ones, it's basically autopilot from now until the end aside from a bit of leaf tucking.

**DWC Update**Day 25 Flower**

Hello folks! Just another busy Monday around here trying to get tons of things done at once. Tying up a couple of outside chores, building a new steel frame for the wheel barrow, watering dried out veggie seedlings hoping they come back and then getting to the grow room for feedings all around. What a non stop evening on top of making supper. Anyways, I got in there and hammered down what needed to be done tonight so I could get back in here with an update of some sort before bed. Lets have a look at what's been going on with the DWC.

Big Bang - Day 70 (45 + 25)

It's been quite the ride with these 2 but things seem to be hanging on so far. The plants are starting to drink quite a bit now, top ups of about 1 gallon were a week apart and now it's about 4 or 5 days and needing another. I don't let the res levels get too low since the root balls are massive and taking up half of the bucket space easily.

The root balls are looking great still, nice pearly white in majority of the areas, a little staining up top that hasn't seem to go away or get worse. They are wrapping around air lines and thermometer wires in no time after freeing them up, so I'll likely just leave them alone now instead of fixing it every time. I can add more slack in the lines if needed inside the buckets.

Magnesium deficiency is still creeping around, it has not progressed but is still there. Some of the green has come back since upping the calmag and I'm hoping I can get some more to come back with some epsom salt sprays at night as Tok had mentioned to me. I haven't gotten a chance to do this yet, always seems to be something going on in the evening the last few days or just not enough time, I need to step my game back up and take more care. Tomorrow I'll make up a mix and be ready to start spraying each night before lights out.

Flowers are starting to appear and the plants themselves seem to be kicking it into high gear finally. I was having a look around and I see a couple of spots where there may be some male parts growing, I am unsure yet as they are very small, I just haven't seen any pitils emerge from the calyx/sac yet. I hope it's not and I don't have another to keep an eye on. My SBC's are already on that list as I found a 2nd plant with a couple tonight there.

Each plant was fed 1 gallon of mix containing the following
Calmag - 1ml/L
Mantis - 5ml/L
UC Roots - 1ml/L

Water temp - 20.5-21c

I didn't get to the ph and tds tests tonight as it was literally right at lights out when I was finishing up and I still had to bring in the veggies from being watered. I feel like I've been so slack on this department for something that is quite important in hydro. None the less things are still chugging along and not dying, that's a win in my books. Hopefully this week I will get back on track. Take care everyone, here's your pictures for tonight of the big bang girls.

**Potted Plant Update**Day 25 Flower**

And now we're back with the potted plant update since I had everyone pulled out for feedings this evening. A few plants were starting to show dry symptoms and I didn't care for seeing that, the pots I lifted seemed ok last night, but it's also getting a little warmer in the house these last few days so they could be drinking faster than I expected. 1 more cold spell coming by the weekend, a chance of a small amount of snow over night Friday followed by rain. Who knows how much rain and how cold really since it's still 3 or 4 days out. I've dealt with the heat for the most part when running HID lighting before so I should be fine running all LED panels now.

Lets look at the lovely ladies shall we..

Skunk #1 - Day 84 (59 + 25)

These gals just continue to impress me even with their short stature, I just keep imagining these ending up being some short and chonky buds, as big around as they are tall :laughtwo: One can hope right? The trichomes are still packing on, all of the smaller leaves around the buds are already filling up. No issues at all here with these 4 and that's the way I'd like to keep it. They are happy when dry, moist or even just after being fed and they haven't dropped a leaf aside from the first couple true leaves that always seem to go as the plants get larger. Here they are before feeding tonight and just as dry as the SBC's.

Sundae Banana Cookies - Day 76 (51 + 25)

I happened to find some more trouble in this bunch tonight, it appears that another plant developed 3 more male parts so I believe. 2 effected main branches on this plant so far that I've seen. Once I can see a small stem under the sac I know for sure it's a male part, some of them are so small at first it's hard to determine, but I never did see these 2days ago when I was defoliating and cleaning the under brush. I'm wondering if it was too much stress from that since a few larfy branches were cut off. Can they develop in 2 days from stress? I suppose they could have been stressed earlier in life too. Either way, the parts were carefully cut off and taken out of the room for disposal, I'll be keeping a close eye on every one of these plants now.

Otherwise they have no other issues aside from that, leaves and growth are healthy, trichomes are packing on these ones as well and calyxes are swelling up nicely. I think the stretch may not be so bad on these plants after all if the bud sites get a decent size. Just hoping for something close to the picture on the website, looks yum!

That's all again for tonight. No work tomorrow so hopefully I will get caught up again on everyone's journals as well as get some more chores done around here. Also need to get an update done on my blue dream journal in between, gotta keep busy and moving or I'll drive myself crazy lol. Have a great night all! Take care and keep it green out there!

Hey brother I hope all is well.
Garden is looking great brother and those DWC plants r looking much better theses days.
Try not to burn yourself out brother as it seems there’s never enough time in a day.
play safe and enjoy everyone

**Important Update**Advice Welcomed**

I'm between a rock and hard place right now...
F*@%'n hermies!!!

More effected plants, more pollen sacs and 1 has opened. For all I know, all of my plants will end up with seeds now, there's a lot of air circulation in the room.

At this moment I'm going to carefully pull each sundae banana cookie plant away from the group and clip all the sacs off that I can find. I should have looked harder last night but there just wasn't any time to do so.

Any ideas on what to do next?

I don't know where you live brother but in alberta are last snowfall is today , I stuff auto outside this weekend, if you are okay with taking risk on losing the hermie plants just throw them outside , they will do really good or die and keeps them separated
In Saskatchewan. We have the same shitty weather coming in a few days. And I can't put that many outside (6) ;) Also they would go back to veg at this point.

I'm wondering if a light leak did this, or if I stressed them somehow. There's a small amount of light that comes out the back of my tent up against the wall, but was barely noticeable.. wondering if that's the issue, but all the other plants are fine, just this 1 strain

Sorry to see that Dick.

As I've never been down that road I have no advice to offer.

I will say that a pair of those jeweler's magnifiers makes it much easier to give your whole plant a thorough close-up inspection.

Agreed on the jewlers loop. Those are some fancy looking ones. My dad gifted me some from an airplane turbine parts machine shop....not quite as fancy but they did the job .

Sorry to hear about the nanners. I agree with hashfart on kicking them outside to the extent possible. Maybe plant a few together so two appear to be 1 haha just a thought

I'll get back to all your replies shortly, working diligently to get them out. I'm going to keep growing them out and use for oils and edibles. I just can't bring myself to chop them.

So here is the start of where they will be going in my garage, away from the rooms intakes and such. The room exhausts into the garage. I guess you could say we got the cardboard box idea from @Carcass grow journal, it's cheap, easy and can be taken down in minutes with a couple lol.

I will hang at least 1 of my 600w hps lights in here and they will not be getting nearly the same treatment they were in the grow room. I may be hot in there lol
