Dick23rk's Fresh Start: Mantis Nutrients Featuring MedicGrow's New Spectrum X+ 880w Light Panel

Looking awesome, Dick!

I have it packed under there trying to keep all 12 plants under the main footprint
Yes you do and it's a thing of beauty! It looks like a netless scrog. :Rasta:

The color on those is amazing. What did you do with the one hermie ball? Cut it off? And now watch carefully? I'd probably have freaked and pulled the plant. But apparently you can eliminate the random ones sometimes as I guess you're doing?
Thanks Jon, all expect the dwc plant colors lol
I just cut it off, put a little wire as a marker on the branch I found it on and will inspect it again in a couple of days. If I seen more than 1 I'd have moved it, I'm sure I have enough extra lights to keep it going in another room if needed to watch it.
Hey dick23rk , kinda late but better late than sorry! Man you got some amazing looking plants wowser!
Hey steel! No worries on being late, the real show has just started with flowering.

Thanks, I'm trying to keep them healthy. The potted plants were a little easier this round than the dwc trials lol
Looking awesome, Dick!

Thank you GDB. If I could have kept them all the same height it would be nice, but I'll work with it. No more room for bending or supercropping in there :laughtwo:
I’m with GDB.
looks amazing matey
Thanks bud! Things are certainly coming together now and I'm quite happy with my first grow after coming back here. All the people that help around here are amazing, I couldn't do it without everyone here on the forum and their wealth of knowledge.

**DWC Update**Day 16 Flower**

And I'm back with the another update on the DWC finally. It was day 10 of flower when we last had a look at these 2, a little longer on an update than I would like to admit. I will be sure to update these 2 again in a couple of days since today was just a photo day and a good look over for them. They wont need another top up for a couple more days by the looks of it, they seem to be drinking roughly a gallon a week. I'm sure that could be more with proper conditions from the start, but we had some issues and super low RH. None the less, it's been a learning curve and fun so far even if they don't turn out great. Let us have a looksy.

Big Bang - Day 61 (45 + 16)
So, where do I start? lol
Today I decided it was time to get rid of a few of the leaves that were either blocking light to the other nodes or restricting air flow under the canopy. Not much at all, I believe it was 2 leaves from bucket #1 and 6 leaves from #2. I don't plan to take any more unless I really need to. The pictures today are from before those leaves were clipped, of course lol

These plants haven't really shown any signs of flowering like the potted plants have. It could be a strain dependent thing and it's just not ready, but there's really only some pistils sticking out here and there to really identify it. I will have to try and find some other grows of the big bang strain and see how long they took to show some preflowers. If anyone else has any insight on that please let me know.

The only other thing here is the lack of nitrogen or magnesium. It's kind of hard to tell with these plants for me but either way, a fixing of upped calimagic should help that since it's got 1% nitrogen. The rusty and crispy spots seemed to have slowed down quite a bit after upping to 2ml/G from 1ml. @KCCO 77 had mentioned to me that he has used calimagic for many years and in his experience with it and hydro he has been using it at 5ml/G or 1ml/L as per the recommendation on the bottle. It's looking like I'm going to be upping the dose again next top up to try and get a little greenness back into the leaves before full on flower.

Oh!! And how about this root ball now? They are really starting to fill out the buckets this past week. I looked back to the pictures from Sunday to compare and I was quite impressed, they've added about 50% root mass it seems. Looking fairly clean too, these were the best shots I could get by myself today lol.

I do have one more thing to add into this update, it's not related to the dwc update but I noticed it earlier when I got moving the plants around to rearrange them. Oh yes, I rearranged them and will add the pictures here as well.. But.. This one plant I have here has me intrigued, it's a beauty and I think it's going to be my 'prize winning' plant out of the bunch. It just has that perfect stature and symmetry to it. This was the biggest Skunk #1 during the last transplant and still is. I think it will look amazing when finished as long as there's no issues.

Have a great weekend everybody! I'm going fishing tomorrow with the family so I'll likely only be on here first thing in the morning and maybe later that night. That's why I'm getting all of my updating and catching up done today :cheesygrinsmiley:
Take care and keep it green out there!

Looking great! Nice job keeping such an even canopy!
:laughtwo: Thanks rexer, but you'll have to look again now after I've rearranged, the picture is in the update above. It's not so even anymore like it was before the stretch. It's not bad, but there's a good 4" difference in there I'm sure haha

Well I'm hoping I catch something, yesterday was a bust for me. Brother in law caught a decent size northern pike.

Hey brother I hope all is good. I’m glad to hear your dwc plants r coming around. They r going to require a ton of cal over the next few weeks.

Get out there my friend and smash a tuna. It’s good for the soul and even if you don’t get any it’s still just good to get out there and burn a few and chill.
Good luck brother and may the fish gods be with you.
play safe and enjoy everyone

**Quick Update**

Hello hello, hope you all had a great weekend! Mine was pretty good, got out with the wife and kids for some fishing in a few new to us spots. Unfortunately, I got skunked again and didn't catch anything. My daughter caught a few tiny yellow perch that she was pretty impressed about and got to toss them back in. All in all was a good time though getting to see her smile and my boy at least attempting to fish, he's only 5 lol.

So I thought I'd stop in with a quick fly by update for today on how everything is going in the room. Nothing has changed really aside from the appearance of the plants, there was a little more stretch from a couple of the SBC's and I may have found a ball on another plant of that strain, it was quite small and hard to tell but I cut it off just in case. I will get another thorough update done tomorrow hopefully as al the plants should need to be fed again, a couple of the pots are kind of light today and might need a drink tonight before the others. I'll check them all around supper time.

Buds are stacking nicely on most of the plants now. The skunks are remaining a bit shorter and bushy with tight node spacing, this should lead to some nice fat and dense colas. The SBC plants are a little more stretchy but could still have potential for some good sized tops and lower buds at least. Here's your group shots for today as well as 1 skunk plant and 1 bud shot from each. The big bang's in the buckets aren't showing much for preflowers yet, they'll get there. Thanks all for stopping by, take care and keep it green out there!

Great idea to use a little wire marker so as to find it easier. I never would have thought of that. Can't wait to see your buds.

Yeah I'd like to keep an eye on that plant specifically, so marking the branch was a good plan when there's 6 plants of that strain, plus others. Get hard to keep track of them all lol

**Potted Plant Update**Day 19 Flower**

Welcome back for yet another update everyone. It was a bit of a scramble this evening to get everything done after working most of the day. All plants needed water including the dwc and our veggies, I should have done some of the potted plants yesterday but I didn't get to that either since I had other chores to get done.. busy busy around here when I'm not working, trying to keep myself occupied.

So I got in the garden this evening for a couple of hours to check over all the plants, especially looking at the SBC's to see if there were anymore pollen sacs popping up. I didn't see any new ones yet so lets hope we're in the clear. Everything else appears to be going really well with these plants, nice and healthy looking with a few tall and lanky buggers sticking up in there. While doing individual pictures each pot was fed, 2ml/G CalMag and 5ml/L Mantis. Each pot got about a half gallon and then 1 leftover gallon got dispersed over all plants to finish it off, still no run off from any pot.

Skunk #1 - Day 78 (59 + 19)

These plants continue to stack up nicely and are getting very bushy. This sometime this week or by the weekend I will get some defoliating done since we are reaching the 3rd week since flipping from flower. These plants are not stretching anymore and need to get some of the lower growth opened up to the light, so some of the fan leaves will go and possibly a few small popcorn branches. I noticed a little condensation on a couple of leaves this evening and I don't like when that happens as it can cause mold or mildew. Fan has been turned up some and moved a little closer for a good breeze on the canopy.

Sundae Banana Cookies - Day 70 (51 + 19)

There's a few in this bunch that seem to be faster drinkers than the others but don't seem to mind being a little dry. I've been trying to not let them dry out too much while waiting to get in there for feedings, it's looking like I'll have to start doing staggered feedings possibly as no plant will drink the same amount as the other in the same time frame. Other than being hungry and finding that pollen sac the other day, these plants have been motoring along and being more dominant than the skunks as they reach for the light.

Annnd, that's it for this update. What a lucky bunch you are tonight though, I'm going to roll another doobie and get my dwc update done again as well. :ganjamon:Imagine, getting things accomplished :laughtwo:
Be back shortly!

**DWC Update**Day 19 Flower**

And now for round 2! These Big Bang's have been a little troublesome lately and still trying to get things dialed in a little better yet, but we're getting there. This evening we will have a look at the nutrients that went in during top up as they were changed slightly, we can check out the roots that are filling up a lot of the reservoirs now and also sit and wonder why these 2 have taken so long to show bud sites.

Big Bang - Day 64 (45 + 19)

I've come to the realization with some help of others that I really need to up my CalMag supplement. It's apparent that these plants are suffering due to a lack of magnesium, so I decided to up my calimagic to the manufacturers recommended dose of 1ml/L. I was previously giving them 2ml/G or 0.5ml/L I am hoping that this will help bring back some of the normal green color to the leaves that are changing, even if it's just a little bit, or I could be chasing this one til the end. The ppm before nutrients was 379, I'm normally at about 120ppm with calmag.

So todays top up consisted of about 2 gallons total, 1 gallon of mix to each bucket at the following amounts
CaliMagic - 1ml/L - 8ml total
Mantis Nutrients - 5ml/L - 40ml total
UC Roots - 3ml/G - 6ml total

Readings of top up mix..
PH - 5.4-5.5
TDS - 842ppm
Temp - 20.4c
I need to get my pen calibrated, I am getting skewed ph results. I just keep forgetting about doing it because I've been slacking on taking readings lately since the nutes are supposed to do their thing and buffer the ph. I'll get it done and check the res readings tomorrow hopefully.

The roots are looking great and very clean. I have actually noticed a little difference since starting to use the UC Roots additive in the one bucket that had some staining from the hydroton. It seems to do the trick at keeping the res water clean as well, I have not changed the res in 1 month since the ph up incident. I'm feeling pretty confident I will make it to the end without having to.

As for why the plants have been taking so long to flower, I'm not sure. They've been showing pistils but not really any bud sites, bucket 1 has just started to sort of show some, but bucket 2 has not. I am hoping that they will start to take off anytime now with the fresh top up and added calmag to fix up the deficiency which might be playing a role in this. I didn't take the greatest pics tonight of these 2 but you can see from the bird eye photos what I mean by the bud sites.

That's all for today in the garden. I need to get to bed now and be up for work again in the morning. I hope you're all having a good start to your week, tomorrow is hump day, let's get over it and moving towards the weekend! Take care everyone and keep it green out there!

It's hard for me to understand with zero hydro how a plant can look like that up top but have an amazing and clean root ball. Seems like if your roots are that healthy (those are AWESOME) that the plant would follow. Weird.

I know hey, the roots look great, but not so much nice action up top. The main problem being that hydro and potted plants can react differently from one another even if given the same nutrients and environment. So, while I'm seeing nice and healthy results in the potted plants, the dwc seems to want something more. This again, could also be strain specific. A real test would be to put in 2 clones from the same plant, 1 potted and 1 dwc, then see if 1 requires anything different or extra compared to the other.

You're doing top-notch with those potted plants, Dick! I especially love the way the SBCs are growing. They should be show girls at the end.

I too am puzzled by the DWC plants. Maybe the calmag will do the trick. I would think with those healthy root balls you would have monsters by now.

Well done, man! :Rasta:

I like the stature and shape of the SBC's but I dislike the node spacing and stringy lower growth coming in. They may surprise me yet though.

I too am hoping the calmag gets them going. A lack of magnesium slows down photosynthesis, so this could be a big part of why they don't have a great growth rate right now.

Thanks for stopping by kind sir! :cheesygrinsmiley:

Hey all, a quick drive by with some photos for the day. All the ladies are looking perky after their feeding last night and are starting to dish out some trichomes.

I also decided since they are sugaring up now, it's time to turn on the uv/ir bars on the light panel. I did not adjust the dimmer this time so we are still at 80% power, I just pushed the button for the bars to turn on.

If any of you are looking for a powerful and wonderfully built light panel to cover a large space and that has all sorts of spectrum options built in, this is the light for you.
You can message @MedicGrow directly for more info or visit the website and check it out as well right here.

Thanks to everyone for stopping by. Here's some pictures to keep you going.
