How do you know that?

:) Well because I had those cinnamon cakes on 16 seeds grew out before sexing them. They were the crosses I widdled down to two females and then one finally. And they did turn slightly yellow after the cinnamon was on top. It didn't do anything far as the knats were concerned either. Fungus knats are a lot harder to get rid of than you'd think. Just when you think they're gone- the next batch springs up. The gnats I had were off the farm, they'd piggy back in your clothes, hair, and in the cuttings I'd bring back in.. They go strait for the florescent lights and then down into the soil. It took me quite a few tries, even drenched with bt and that didn't do it. They disappear but back in a week.

The sns-203 works, hydrogen peroxide I never tried so I can't really say. The sns though you dunk the roots, come back after a week you'll still have stragglers. They will be very decimated in numbers. The fly traps work. But to finish them off you do a second root dunk. Then spray the top of the soil with 203 every watering after that. I hear Azamax in your feed will stop them from coming back but I don't have any knats to worry about anymore. :Namaste: At least until the farming season kicks back in

That de king was talking about. I haven't used that either. But after the cinnamon debacle I won't put anything even sand on top of my soil. I'd just rather kill them off for good

I don't know what you mean by "cinnamon cakes," but I meant to lightly sprinkle and I didn't say it was sure to work. I also said somewhere that Bt-Israelensis H-14 strain is sold by Garden's Alive, is organic and works like a charm. Just putting Bt-K or even Bt-I isn't specific enough to knock the problem down, hence the name, Gnock Out Gnats. I have no idea how cinnamon would change the sex of your plants or cause any yellowing. It is not usually water soluble and while it has been proven that root hairs can take up whole molecules, as seen under a high power electron microscope...it is highly unlikely a root hair would uptake a whole molecule of cinnamon which really doesn't travel much in the soil and is unavailable if it did. Just sayin...

Try it out.. That's what sayin though. I'm giving my experience with knats. I know for a fact cinnamon doesn't work :)

Interesting on the bt-i.. I didn't think the brand would matter. I read all the stuff you probably did too on getting rid of them. The thing is I had them to deal with and the only thing out of that sea of misinformation that worked was the 203. Sometimes (actually a lot of the times) the internet is full of shit. Why I only post on things have direct experience with :) No disrespect intended

For soil insects I use diatomaceous earth on top of the soil as a barrier, it cuts them as they move through it. I bought my diatomaceous earth from an animal feed store, do not use the type meant for pool filters. Mosquito dunks can also be used as a soil drench for fungus gnats. Sierra Natural Sciences also makes a soil drench called SNS-203 for fungus gnats and other soil insects.

King do you have to replace the de after each watering? I heard it's ineffective after you water, it's gotta be dry. Just curious, I still won't use it but be nice to know

No worries. If an infestation is evident, being specific with the Bt strain is important. It works the same way it works on any insect which eats it. They get sick and can't eat. I never heard of the 203 so that's not something I can comment on, either. I have been an organic grower of everything from houseplants to parsley for decades. Way before there were "products!" Good times we live in.

You can top up the surface if it needs it after watering. I have seen the same thing written about the diatomaceous earth but I Doubt it looses effectiveness when it is wet, razor sharp silica is still sharp even when wet.

For the heck of it I checked out the 203 and it has Rosemary and Clove oil as an active ingredient, which means there are essential oils and those ARE potentially available to the plant. I am sure it works, but it also puts actives into the soil which could change the taste of the pot...I think. I urge people to check out the Gardens Alive Knock-Out Gnats Granules - Gardens Alive!

They have a buy 25 dollars get 25 free coupon right now. Usually always! hahaha. But, they have nice stuff. Things like floating row cover, even growing supplies. This product lasts forever and it works.

Oh that stuff looks awesome. So if I order it the coupon thing will just pop out when you check out or something? I didn't see anything about it on the site but it is something I think I would like to have on hand. I haven't seen many of them but I know seeing any means they will most likely hatch eventually and there will be more. I didn't have a problem with the MG soil like most people said I would but the Fox Farm soil has spit out a few and I just don't like them......:circle-of-love:

They're not really that hard to get rid of. I have a home remedy that works.

Garden I really want to see how you have done the camouflage for your outside garden. I know you have been doing this for years and I am so curious to see how you have it landscaped. I want to put some outside this spring but not to far from the house and right where my house is built the lay of the land is very visible but would be relatively easy to landscape with rock gardens etc to plant some trained plants. any ideas you through this way would be greatly appreciated......:circle-of-love:
