Dennise - No Longer The Newest Of Newbies - Not Growing In MG - Perpetual

Thank you Dennise for answering the question and explaining about the edibles. Yes I am prone to get paranoid on occasion. My sister is having a lot of medical problems that's making her lose her appetite, now they are trying different medicines to help her appetite along with the other slew of meds she has to take. So of course I talked her in to smoking some, it wasn't easy to get her to either. When she finally did It made her so paranoid..it was awful... I started thinking that maybe something edible might be better... Thanks again for explaining especially the paranoid part. An edible is the last thing sister needs.

I think you are right and that is not the answer for your sister. Maybe you could find someone on here that knows about making it in pill form. I know people do it but I'm not sure of the reasons or how it is done but it may be worth looking into. I tend to have a hard time eating and keeping weight on and the eatables do help me but I don't have an issue with paranoia.....:circle-of-love:

That's a great idea Dennise...I don't know the answer myself but it makes sense to me the pill doses could be more accurate...two people on here I know have experience with the pills are McLodie and Jaga

Thanks Jay... I knew I had read it just couldn't remember where but since I refused to be a lab rat I have been experimenting with eatables for nausea, muscle spasms and pain and it amazes me how well it is working and how much less of the poison from the pharmaceutical companies I am having to take ..:circle-of-love:

That's excellent Dennise...the less you need to rely on big pharma the better IMHO...glad to hear its helping you

I have an update on everybody in the house. I'll start with the new babies.... Green xxxxx, Skunk Afghani and Black to Black all were watered with full strength step 2 Growology and between the 3 of them they took a little more than 1/2 gallon. The Green xxxxx is the second one I had to germinate so it is about a week behind the other 2 but is catching up fast. The Black to Black had the biggest tap root, popped her head first and is growing the fastest......:circle-of-love:

Lastly the FF SBR in the closet 45 days in bloom was watered with 3 tsp Big Bloom, 2 tsp Grow Big, 2 tsp Tiger Bloom, .25 Cha ching and 1 tsp molasses per gallon of purified water and she took 1 gallon. She will also get her last defoliation this afternoon but that hasn't been done yet. I should say hopefully it will get done this afternoon.........:circle-of-love:

You are so cute with your little flag tags! You're a cute person Fifi.

I think the big ugly plant is going to be the most strong plant you have grown to date. I was reading some abstract crap over the last week and there is some evidence *I am not discovering anything* which shows plants which are stressed during the end of flowering stage will put on more essential oils for protection. Pot is a plant. Yeah, funny that huh? A plant. So I think your stressed out, nute starved, uggo is going to be dripping with goo.

:)

I have noticed this effect, of course if to stressed out to early or to long will not do it, but a plant stressed near end of flower does seem to be more potent.

My uncle who I originally learned to grow from has been growing on the Big Island for 40+ years (he still has the best stuff I ever smoked and that was in the 90's, still nothing tops it) swears by stressing his plants the last few weeks of flower.

It does make sense. I've had peach trees in my life which weren't productive and at the end of the summer I would beat them with a stick, literally. It's Dr. Dirr's recommendation, actually. Dirr is THE arborist of this century. When the plant is threatened it somehow releases hormones which produce the oils. Plants have varying levels of oils, but they all have some.

Hopefully, Fifi is sleeping...zzzzzzz

That is a very good point and I agree

But Dirr is not the be all end all anymore ...I had to study Dirr's books for my degree and still use his insect and disease encyclopedia from time to time but Dr. Alex Shigo was more accurate IMHO when it came to woody plant biology...he caused a major change in practices that were harming trees and woody plants pre 1980's with his understanding of the compartmentalization process...I'll see if I can find anything he may have written on the subject

Edit:ok I refreshed my memory...it's been a while...any stress will increase phenol and terpene chemical production (defense chemicals)

I also know that plants have (communication) chemicals that are released when stressed that cause near-by plants to increase their defense chemical production

It would be fun to do a test ...grow one plant "normally" and stress another plant in the last two weeks of flower ...the plants would have to be in two different locations because the communication chemicals would ultimately throw off the final results...also the stress could not be so severe that it causes the plant to hermie...then potency could be compared

You know, you're right, Jay. I completely forgot about Shigo. Dirr is from MY days in college which was a realllllllllly long time ago. Dirr was actually not an arborist, he was a horticulturist who specialized in woody plants. That said, I haven't had to beat the trunk with a stick. Now I just pray for chill hours and if none arrive, no peaches. Simple. Dr. Shigo died about ten years ago, give or take...please do post anything you come up with, though I can probably do a search and find tons of info. I'd like to read about his compartmentalization.

I just put an edit in my previous post :)

Now we just need to find two members willing to give it a try that can have potency checked by a lab...I would really like to see the results

I had the privilege of talking with Dr. Shigo a few times at his seminars, what an amazing intelligent man, he had a passion deep in heart for trees and plants that came across when he spoke...if you do a search for "Dr. Alex Shigo compartmentalization" you should get plenty of info...Very important for proper pruning

This is a really cool idea. I was reading the conversation about stressing plants to produce higher potency and was about to pipe up when I came to the part about sympathetic transmission.

The idea of stressing pot plants in bloom used to be common wisdom of a sort. There were all sorts of recommended ways to do it, including spiking/splitting the main stem, to various toxic drenches. In the 21st century, I think we're beyond that. If that was a good way to grow better product, everyone would be doing it. I think what happens is, an abused plant puts out some startlingly good produce. It isn't as good as a healthy plant produces, but it's the best thing about the plant because the rest of it is trashed. :cheesygrinsmiley:

But this idea about stressing one plant to cause another one to produce better - that's very interesting! It kinda appeals to my sense of the universe. I actually have one of two clones in bloom right now. The other one got stressed and harvested a week ago. This one is shockingly good - maybe the best I've sampled all year - 18 brix.

Interesting. :thumb:
