Dennise Growing Under A Znet4 In Soilless Medium With Growology

:passitleft: High Chin... The number one mistake for newbies is to over water. If you do give to much water the root system will not be as good as the roots will not have to look for water they will just grow straight down in the pot instead of circling the pot and forming a good root structure. So with all that crap being said I let the medium dry out on the top couple of inches then water slowly till you see the first bit of run off. I was just over looking at your new babies... Congrats...:yahoo:.....:circle-of-love:

With plants like yours, we're proud to have you wear it!

I really do like your packaging. It is not like most of the cartoon labels which aggravate me to no end.

Raising my juice in a toast for your continued success! (go organic...do it, do it, do it! hahaha).

Thanks for noticing, gf - that was a deliberate decision for exactly that reason. We wanted to lose the frat boy imagery and convey a sense that we take this stuff seriously while still having packages that are attractive and not boring. Fortunately, one of my closest friends is an amazing graphic designer and he got what we were after immediately. Nice when someone notices. :)

Truth? That is the FIRST thing I notice. Having been an operator and manager of both a large greenhouse operation as well as a medium sized 10 acre nursery/garden center, I did the ordering. If it had a cartoon on it, I didn't sell it. Period. And that was a very long time ago. My last nursery job was in Patchogue NY in 1991. I miss it every day, but would die doing it.

That said, you definitely hit the lottery with your designer. That was the first thing which attracted me to it on the little ads we see popping about on the screen.

As usual, I guess I didn't word my question appropriately. I was wondering how much you water your seedlings once they pop the medium? Do you just keep it moist or is there an actual measured amount of water you put on them and how often?

This is the proper way to water. Not a schedule, but when the plant needs it. Exactly how Dennise said to do, let the soil dry out a bit before watering it again. Plants don't have a schedule, usually. Air temps, humidity, and many other factors play into how one would water their particular plants. It's better to under water than over water. Hands down.

thank you Garden.....:circle-of-love:
Even seedlings?
Yes Ma'am....:circle-of-love:
A seedling is a plant, so yes. You can over water seedlings and create the conditions for Rhizoctonia.
I don't know what the big words mean but over watering a seedling is the number 1 mistake of new growers Chin.... If you will pick up your pot, even the little ones and get use to how they feel after watering and then how light they are when they are needing watering you will soon be able to tell just by picking up the pot but as stated before stick your finger in the soil and make sure the top inch or 2 are dry. They sell a soil moisture meter at Blowes or Wally world for about $10. I don't advise completely depending on it but it can help confirm your thoughts on if it needs to be watered. I use one to just make sure I am thinking right but I don't solely depend on it. Then I water till I see the first bit of run off.....Hope any of this makes sense......:circle-of-love:

Yeah, I understand, I was asking because I have them in their big pots and can't water through yet, but I get the gist of it. Last time the soil did it for me, this time it's just me and Steps 1,2,& 3. I guess I'm really nervous about making this go right, because I did everything opposite of what my better-half wanted to do, telling her this will produce better quality & quantity. Once I get to full veg I'll be a lot more calm about the situation. She's a country girl, set in her ways and it took A LOT of convincing to go this route. I don't want to hear, "I told you so."

When I was neglecting my re-veg, I often went so long between watering that the plant would wilt. Within 20 mins of watering, she was perky and vibrant.

If you have the ability to inspect her everyday, Do not be afraid to let her dry out. A lot. Roots need oxygen, and a muddy pot is not a good environment for that, among other things.
If you have another pot of the same size, fill it with dry soil. Feel the weight. That's pretty close to how light your pot should be before you water.

Morning Dennise. :) How's that frosty Thai this morning?? :yummy:

I can't wait til that girl starts swelling up some more. She is gonna be some nice smoke. How far out from chop are ya?
I still think she has a while to go Spimp. She is about 52 days in bloom and I bet she has at least 3 more weeks. I just checked her trichs and they are still all clear.... Please pop over to my other journal and see if you can answer that question. Freaking here.....:circle-of-love:
