Dark Devil Auto: A Community Grow Record

I had my first defective Dark Devil auto seed this week. It sprouted alright, it just didn't grow. I germinate in perlite and when the plant has been above ground for 3 days I float the seedling and transplant it into it's final pot. Since it wasn't growing, no permanent leaves in sight I wasn't surprised to see a tiny tap root upon removing it from the perlite. I composted it and dropped another seed into my perlite solo cup to germinate. Hoping to have better luck with this one.

Hope everyone is having a great week!!

Hope it goes well for you second time around beez!

I took these a couple of nights ago, just for my own reference, to look at the trichs. Might as well share the Dark Devil eye-candy :D

Very pretty, Amy! I don't have a microscope and admit I have a hard time with the trichrome colors on the Dark Devil plants. I'm never sure if the purple trichromes I see starting about 70 or so days post sprout are the DDA's version of amber crystals. I can't say I've seen amber crystals on any of the DDA plants I've grown.

Me neither beez - i just wait for cloudy ones. SweetSue takes those purple trich stems a sign, but she likes to take ‘em early for the racy buzz. I like to get as many cloudy as possible so I look for all white/milky trichs. I use a cheap loupe too and can usually get a fair idea woth that. The macro lens in easier and way more fun tho! :D

Just water is better than way to early, my opinion

Maybe add a tiny amount of Osmocote Plus or something like the bloom component of this:
...to the top inch of the soil and water it in just before leaving? Then water as needed, of course.

I dropped one last week that still hasn't come up, and when I drop two replacements they will go in the same 5 gallon pot, because I expect them to look nothing like the one that actionjackson is growing ;).
If you try some lst when it's about 3 weeks and do some supercropping you could get there I'm sure these are some pics of what I did.

Assuming they're tall enough to train I will definitely be doing LST on them, but growing autos outside is even more hit-or-miss than autos generally!
I say push the limits, I'm no experienced grower actually this is my first season of growing, two photos outdoors and two autos indoors, I have one monster outside and the other had some problems and it's kind of the same indoors the dd is doing amazing and the purple punch is struggling but I think I'll still get some yields from it here are the outdoors, I'm in Canada so they are about done, maybe another month.

I agree with your assessment of autos. Especially when growing them outside. There you not only have to deal with the inconsistency of the auto flower strain but have to contend with the elements. And for me the sun I get, in the only spot in my yard that gets sun, is late afternoon and only for about 4 hours each afternoon. So I have to constantly rotate my plants to give each side a shot at the sun every few days. Also the buds on my outside plants never get very dense at all. Lack of light intensity being the culprit I believe.

That said, I can take six or eight auto seeds and germinate them in mid March and put them outside mid April and harvest those plants in the middle of June with zero light bill. It's an "I get what I get" kind of deal though.
