DankDragons First Grow

>>>oh ok lol i thought they were sexed prior to flower... pardon my ignorance.. noob stuff lol

Although some photo strains do show signs of preflowering late in vegetative growth. But since you are not going for a LONG veg cycle then what Spimp said applies here.

plants left in veg long enough will show sex, when a plants mature it shows us what sex it is, under 18-6 this is usually around week 6 to 8 of growth depending on strain, plants grown under 24-0 might not show sex till flipped 12-12.

how are them new nutrients going, just remember veg nutes are much much to strong for these plants, so if it says add 20ml per gallon then this is for mature plants, so for young plants you would only need a fraction of that, if your plant is big and in veg then id go with 1/5th or 1/6th of the stated dose, but if its young then go with 1 or 2ml per gallon,

whats the npk of the nutes, these plants do well with low npk nutes, strain hunters use NPK 2-1-1 for veg and flower flower they use 1-2-2 or 1-2-1, ill double check as not 100% sure on the flowering stage feed,

but lets say their giving 1-1-1 for veg, and their adding 20ml per gallon for a 4 week old plant, well say you go out and buy a veg nutrient thats 10-10-10, then this means that its 10 times stronger than the 1-1-1, so you need to lower the dose to keep the npk low enough so it dont burn the plants then up the dose until your maxing the plant out with no stress,

i tried using tomato feed at 4-4-4 and it said 20ml per gallon or 1 cap full per gallon, so i went down to 5ml per gallon and it was still way to hot for my plants, i was getting nute burn, then i bought some potato nutrients that was NPK 12-24-36, this said add 1 scoop per gallon as it was a power feed you mix with water, so i backed it right off to about 1/6th of the dose per gallon, again i had huge problems and i had a nute lock out due to ph issues, ive managed to get the tomato feed usable by giving a very low dose and the test plant im testing it on is doing well under it but all im giving it is 2ml per gallon, leaves are a nice dark green colur and its no longer showing signs of to much nutrients,

the plants we are growing are weeds so really need very little, so off the shelf products are way to hot, this is why companies produce nutrients suited for these plants, they produce nutriens with higher NPK like 7-2-2 and its dosed correctly and we follow a feed schedule from seedling stage and this is why we pay more for these products as someone has taken the time to mix them up with all the nutrients and micro nutrients these plants need and all added at the right dose to make these plants thrive, so off the shelf fruit and veg feed is not suited for weeds and will cause problems unless used in very low doses.

great idea few pages back about the hard nutrients, when you add them to water before feeding, but again you need to use low doses, i did try using a pellet type slow release nutrients and had them placed in the soil lower down in the pot, for the first 4 or 5 weeks i had no issues what so ever, but then i think as soon as the roots hit this hot spot i then had huge problems with cal/mag issues and to much N, so you need to go very lightly on fruit and veg nutes, if its liquid id even go as low as 1 or 2ml per gallon then see how the plants respond then up the dose each feed, the problem is with soil grown plants is they take some time to show us their is a problem, so when we do see a problem with the leaves or plant is to late and the problems going to get worse before it gets better even if we flush the soil, with hydro the problem is pretty much instant and you have to put it right quick else the plant can get bad quick, with soil it acts like a buffer so you can flush and the plant will then recover,

so go easy on the off the shelf products and start with a very low dose, i thought the doses i used was very low but clearly they wasnt as i had major problems with some plant i was running tests on, but the tomato feed i can now use and the plant seems to be doing ok,

one of our sponsors has a pretty amazing sounding product, if you look at the contest page the new sponsor called something dogget or dogget something, well if you check out their products their is just 3 products, 1 is seedling stage, 1 is veg stage and 1 is flower stage, the seedling stage mix you add so much to the soil before planting the plant, then when its in veg stage you use the veg stage feed and mix how ever much it says with water and feed the plants then, then when you flip 12-12 you use bag 3 and again just add the dose to water and feed the plants until harvest, the doses are the same each feed so you dont need to mix anything and risk messing up,

hopefully ill be getting to try these products when they get delivered and ill be able to report back on progress and results, but if it works as well as it says it does then ill be using it from then on and ill make sure i send custom their way, if it works for me and produces great results then ill tell everyone else so they can get great results, they also do a sample bag thats cheap and enough for 1 or 2 plants for the whole grow if i remember right, so if their doing samples like that then clearly they know their product works, so cant wait to try that as it takes all the mixing out of growing and makes it so much easier, but proof will be in the testing and ill grow half my plants with the new problem and half with what im using now and then i can compare results,
