Two days after defoliation. I wasn't going to do it. What was I thinking ;)

Shout out to KJ for helping me through that tough "to defo or not to defo". It was emotional but we got there ;)

So your happy with how she responded bro .

Makes me happy to see you thriving bro .

Definitely, I've not had plants look as they did so was a bit wary of taking leaves away. I've defoliated for the past five grows but at first it didn't feel right.

After seeing a big difference in two days I'm over the moon mate. Growers Paranoia is coming less and less now ;)

Good to hear buddy

Now those buds are stacking nicely my friend. How far are your lights away again bud?

I was at 20 inches with the Gavita running at 800w. It's been a nightmare with the cold weather here, been battling falling temps all week and this was a quick solution that kept it stable.

Outside weather settled more back to what is expected today, so dropped back to 650w and have it 17 inches from the canopy. Any closer and the leaves start to spike up towards the light.

Think I might be pushing the light to it's boundaries in terms of coverage

I agree with penny you will lose depth coverage ppfd for raising lights but you will get more even coverage . I like the way penny is thinking there .

All about what you feel is best bro just don't be scared to test shit and wait to see how responds liek me penny showed me I can take those links that hook to lights to yo-yo.

As I think I need to do so for my reflector light is only at like 14 " right now .

Need to up it a bit .

It's counter intuitive to raise the lights but you'll get bigger and denser buds down low if you raise them closer to 24"

I've never been one to have them up close, especially as we've always used HPS, it's one of the main reasons I'm a solo gardener now. Couldn't stand the arguments over light distance.

From what I know about my lights and the basics of how and why they do their job I would have said 24 inches was crazy in flowering.

But....

I trust your judgement and value your advice. Could you please tell me why so I can understand it better?

Google the Inverse Square Law. It should explain everything much better than I can.

Awesome I'm going to read it to.

Good looking out penny .

As I normally use 2 HPS I've read up on it before, I was getting hotspots where the 'light beams' crossed as the two lights overlapped.

I didn't know it explained how the lower buds would benefit from the light being further.

I thought moving the light away would increase area covered but result in less useable light, even more so for the buds low down.

Is it something to do with growth lower down using blue light rather than yellow/red because it's closer to the roots?

Good possibility I'd say m8 .

I've raised mine

Think I've said before it's a reluctance to talk about gardening that's seen us bumble about for the last ten years over here. Was having the same conversation with a pal today talking about all the helpful and friendly people I've met on here.

My first ten years of growing was based on advice and lessons from someone who in hindsight got an A+ for effort but D- for theory and actual effectiveness.

I've read a s***load of books. One of the benefits of being autistic. But that knowledge only goes so far.

It's places like 420 (don't know any other so just 420 ;)) that help.

It's like the most efficient call centre ever. If only they all solved a problem in the time it takes on here ;)
