I finally caught up on your journal crawdaddy. I really like what you have going on here, everythings healthy and your garden looks really busy in a good way :) your girls look like those a miniature version of those monster yielding plants that have colas the size of footballs lol I sure hope they turn out that way in flower :)

Re: Crawdaddy's First Grow in 10+ Years Greenhouse/Soil -2013

Thanks Crimson, my biggest unknown with this garden is if they stretch out enough after all the regrow growth. Trying my best to be patient and let the stretching play out.

My plan next year is to have 4-6 plants in a room where the light cycle is timed exactly as it would be here on June 1st. Give them about 2-3 mos veg in that environment with lots of topping/training then move them outside into big pots June 1st. Hoping then they do not get confused going from 24/7 light into 16/8, which is about what June 1st is around here.

i would give the plants you have planed for next year 18/6 18 hours of light and 6 hours of darkness instead of 24/0, i have noticed my plants grow much better under 18/6 then 24/0.

I agree, or even better from what I been reading the gas lamp method, or what ever it is called...

12 hours on
5 off
2 on
5 off

or something like that.

Michael the brown mantis seems to have disappeared sadly.

The ladies are still stretching out, two need some more stretch the rest I would love to start seeing buds forming in next week or two. We shall see. Been hot and sunny all day every day for months, so only thing giving them any indication fall is coming is the light cycle. Sure does start changing fast at this latitude though (about 45 North).

Re: Crawdaddy's First Grow in 10+ Years Greenhouse/Soil -2013

Need a little advice, thinking about flushing my plants, cause never been done. Not sure if they need or not, I normally feed every 2-4 waterings. for last 3-4 weeks I have been feeding each plant a gallon of water and I see ZERO run off. Using 10 and 15 gallon pots.

So my questions are, think I should flush? Everything is healthy, few burned tips here and there but overall plants look VERY happy.

If I do flush, what would be best way of doing it? From what I read need to use enough water that is 2-3 times the volume of the soil, well I really do not want to have to pH balance 30-45 gallons of water per plant (6 plants), I am using gallon jugs.

Any help be appreciated, Thanks!

Lester, Because I never have and do not want salt buildup biting me in the ass, am I being paranoid? Plus it seems that everyone does it the week before harvest, I am not there yet but thinking ahead.

I'd say Don't fix something that ain't broke mate, if your plants are happy, let them be happy.
:peace:

When I water, I water until I see a little bit of run-off so I know all layers of the roots are saturated.
Actually flushing the system is quite different, it's not something you need to do right now.

Lester, ok man thanks, you talked me of the ledge.....I got to make a poster and put it on my wall KISS.....Keep It Simple Stupid. I seem to forget it every now and then.

On a side note a bit cooler today thank god. Sick of the 90-95 degree weather.

Re: Crawdaddy's First Grow in 10+ Years Greenhouse/Soil -2013

I ran in to a similar situation as yours.

If I do flush, what would be best way of doing it? From what I read need to use enough water that is 2-3 times the volume of the soil, well I really do not want to have to pH balance 30-45 gallons of water per plant (6 plants), I am using gallon jugs.

My PH took a dive. I am growing in 1 gallon post x2 and 6" squared pot x2. So I would need 5 gallons of water. I only keep up to 5 gallons of aerated watered on hand.

I am not saying you should do this...

But I just used water straight from the tap (chlorinated city water, 8.0 PH ) and flushed my plants from 4.0 PH up to 6.0 PH. Gave a 1/2 strength VEG fertilizer (PH 7.0) because they are only 1 week into flower. After 2 days I flushed again with water straight from the tap and then gave them 1/2 strength Flower fertilizer (7.0 PH).

My personal belief is the chlorinated water isn't going to hurt the plants as long as the PH is correct. I have watched a youtube grow where a guy experimented and used only water straight from the tap for a whole grow without problems.

It is still early so I can't say positively that I wont have any issues. But I plan on continuing to use aerated/chlorine fee water for nute mixtures and regular chlorinated water from the tap to flush as needed.

The main reason to flush would be if your PH is way off. Otherwise you probably don't need to flush.
