Cottage 420's Organic Perpetual Indoor Garden

Great pictures bb. Love the varied colors....bud color ranks right up there with fragrance for me! :thumb:

I'm a big fan of smells too. The really cool thing about Krystalica is they don't smell like canna really so stealth for sure. By not smelling like canna I mean when I walk into my flower room when it has been shut with the AC on the room smells more like soil than herb. Then when I get up close and smell the flowers they are VERY sweet. So really not smelly unless you are right on the flowers with your nose. Then after harvest and drying then the buds really start to get stinky like a really dank sweet smell. You cannot carry any around in your pocket or EVERYONE will know you have some.

Today is great weather day so we opened all the windows including the flower room get some fresh air, when I walk into the front door I can smell the ladies, danky sweet but not too bad, and not enough to be able to smell them outside.

I grew some blueberry skunk that smelled up the whole neighborhood a few summers back.

I agree with bright light, bud color is a strong pull for me as well. Excellent update BB. So my take is you have to know your plants well enough to be able to hear them when they decide it's enough? And don't be afraid to take plants growing in LOS later?

I'm going to do a rolling harvest on my Cheese a Candy in the no-till, drop another Dark Devil seed in there and let the cheese go until I get some amber trichomes. Just a little experiment.

I was just looking at my schedules and thinking a deep cleaning would need to be scheduled at some point. Thanks for reminding me. About how often do you think you do that?

Thanks SS for the compliments, when I start to see all the leaves yellow like that and drooping then the end is near. They are fighting for the last horah, its a waiting game and I have to look out for seeds forming that will be the sign I waited too long!!

Deep cleaning.... when ever the flower room is empty or close to it. I waited to start another round on purpose due to summer heat and all. So I'm about done with the summer crop and usually I have replacements, chop, drop and up pot clones, but this round I waited so I would have a lull where I could do some cleaning and take down the tent and set it back up right side up this time ... ooops. It's a 5' x 10' x 7' tall tent so it's a major amount of work to dis-assemble and set back up. I try and keep it clean as I grow along but hey only so much house cleaning with 10 plants growing. This grow is only 5, but I needed a break this round too hot/humid to grow indoors this time of year. So far so good tho, I was worried about mold and PM with all the humidity but it was too hot for that, so far!

Hey I have a co workers brother that has cancer hes only like 34, lymphatic cancer had all his lymph nodes removed, anywho... I'm providing him with canna meds, the Krystalica has a decent amount of medicinal properties along with 20% THC so its a potent med for him and me. He smokes a lot too so its a good thing I'm ambitious eh?

Hear ya man! Outdoor was relaxing until starting up inside again. Hot as heck too so extra work....watering & trying to keep inside cool. Cleaning gr ranks down w/ trimming imo. Ha, good thing it's my hobby so work is still ok....mostly anyway. :Namaste:

I hear ya on the trimming. I think you have to have a "special" personality to like trimming. I have a grower friend in Cali that is from here where we live and he comes home from time to time and he LOVES to trim. Last time he was at our house trimming... he's eyes were totally blood shot, his eyes were watering constant after he trimmed for about an hour... he's like "I'm not stoned"; ummmm sure you're not that's why you can stop crying cause your not stoned yet!! haha he's very good at it, I suck but he showed me how to do it like they do it for the dispensaries in Cali.

I've been cracking some new seeds for a change in flavor - not that I'm tired of Krystalica by any means, that is the best I've smoked so far and has medicinal properties as well and psychedelic properties so I'm VERY happy. I just like some variety, I heard it was the "spice" in life!

Anyhoo... I popped a seed called Narco Purps, I have a thing for purple buds for some reason. It's totally visual and has nothing to do with anything but bag appeal. So Here's the Narco Purps seedling, notice the seed shell is still attached to the stem, I never saw that happen before and this one has more leaves than all of her adapted sisters do!!

Soon the little ones will get hardened off and into the veg room ... they have 3 days to get it together and its going to be LIGHTS ON!!

I thought it was pretty cool seeing the shell wrapped around the stem like that!

Trichome pics I messed up and forgot to turn my light on so these are the only pics that turned out some what ok. WAY too many colors from the grow lights - going to have to do this again lights out.

Prediction: All cloudy with a slight chance of amber in the forecast!

Yeah baby I'm diggin what I'm seein's

I've never seen it like this before... hmmm??? Lots of pretty colors, hopefully thats what we will be seeing when we do a smoke test, yeah u right! Me likes the pretty colors.

Awesome journal you've got going here bobrown!!
:thumb::bravo:

If there's an extra seat available I hope that you don't mind me dropping by every now and then to have a peak at your girls and hopefully pickup a few tips along the way.

Pull up a chair UC and I'll roll up a fatty :passitleft: Welcome to my little corner of :420:

Just in time ... about to harvest and about to start 2 more rounds.

Next up - mixing some Coots organic soil mix.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Puff, puff, pass brother!! :high-five:

Coots Mix How To with pics:

Ok this past run we are starting to see some soil compaction on the top few inches of soil probably due to EWC amendments without any aeration material. So the soil gets pretty hard on the surface but under that layer the soil is ok but we're going to mix up a fresh batch of Coots organic living soil mix for my next rounds and fix the current pots soil compaction issue for clones from this round. The compacted pots will be used again I will mix in the top layer and plant some clones and keep on running with no-til LOS Coots mix.

Coots Mix Primer:

1/3 part hummus
1/3 part Canadian Sphagnum Peat moss
1/3 part aeration
mineral amendments

This is 3 cu/ft of soil enough to completely fill a wheel barrow.

First thing I want to mix up is the mineral portion consisting of :
glacial rock dust - 2 cups
basalt brix blend - 2 cups
azomite - 1/2 cup
bentonite - 1/2 cup
green sand - 1/4 cup
dolomite lime pellets (instead of gypsum) 1 cup
Crab shell meal 2 cups
Neem cake meal - 2 cups
Kelp Meal - 2 cups
Alfalfa Meal - 1 cup
rabbit berries - 2 cups

This is what the mineral mix looks like:

DSCN05129.JPG

Next up is the EWC/hummus portion, I used 1 cu/ft Coast of Main Lobster compost

Added to the lobster compost was 3 types of EWC

1) EWC - Gathered in the woods local forest, this is from night crawlers - 1 gal
2) EWC - our own home made - 4 cups
3) Coast of Main - EWC - 1 gal

here's a pic of the left to right: 1 on the left; 2 center; 3 right:
I just mixed up a cup of each for an ACT as well.

Notice the EWC left and center look very very close - one is our own and the other is gathered in the woods. The EWC on the right is bagged and does not have anywhere near the minerals that the home made does.

DSCN05089.JPG

Next step is to mix my hummus, CSPM (peat moss) and aeration.

For CSPM I'm using ProMix BX - it has SOME aeration (not enough) and mycos and is already moistened so it mixes much better than straight up CSPM.

Hummus is Coast of Main lobster compost mixed with the 3 types of EWC and 3 scoops of compost with our own home made bio-char (we grill with real wood charcoal then into compost pile for a few years).

Aeration is perlite - some already in the ProMix and we added in a few buckets full (10 gals or so).

Here's everything in the wheel barrow:

DSCN05268.JPG

Here it is all mixed up - I will water with filtered water and some EM-1, tomorrow I will water again with ACT and plant the seedlings.

DSCN05279.JPG

Here's the containers filled and ready to go to the VEG room.

I added in a cup of rabbit berries to the 2 purple pots to see what that does later on in flower.

DSCN052812.JPG

here's group shot - this was more work than I've done in 2 years collectively for my indoor gardens.
All we do for outdoor gardens is use the home made EWC with mushroom soil and ACT raised beds go wild.

Fired up and running - this will be finished after dinner tomorrow

It's good to see that you mention that your Krystalica is easy on the nostrils.
Back in the day when I was playing in dirt outdoors odor was not ever something that was even a consideration for me. But now that I've taken things indoors (newbie indoor gardener here) I'm trying to keep a mental list of varieties that are reported to be not so smelly during flower as well as during drying.

May I ask how's the scent when drying?
Is it more like the mild odors that you mention during flower or more like the intense odor that you mention after a good cure?

Hey there UC - during drying the buds start to build a nice sweet pungent scent, nothing all that strong TBH and sometimes I hang the ladies in my bedroom (my wife also hangs herbs there too). The Krystalica is a nice sweet smell that is not crazy strong but everyone will know you have some in your pocket after a good month cure 100% on that but you won't smell like you've been sprayed by a skunk either!

Right now I've got all the windows open and can smell a faint smell of ganga when I first walk into the house.

Very impressive grow room and flowers you have going, it looks like you've been growing for quite some time indoors!! Very nice indeed.
Particularly like your last harvest, nothing beats arm sized buds.:yummy:

Thanks for the feedback.
It sounds like Krystalica would be perfect fit for a stealthy indoor garden. This one will be included with the next seed order.

Thanks for the comps about my garden. That means a lot coming from an experienced green thumb like yourself.
Like I said, I'm an indoor newbie. I've had a few outdoor grows in the past but had a 10+ year break due to my career and other life circumstances. I'm just now getting my feet wet again but this time I decided to take it indoors.

My first round indoor grow was a complete failure with my girls dying of thirst at about week 7 or so.
While away on an extended business trip my water reservoir ran bone dry so my plants were dried and cured while in their pots while I was away. It looked like a tent full of MJ jerky when I returned home. LOL!

Luckily I had taken clones before flowering those 1st girls and had my veg tent on a separate reservoir which didn't run dry so I had clones to use as replacements.
I'm just now finishing up my first real indoor harvest which are those same clones that escaped death by dehydration. I still have a bit of tweaking do and am always trying to learn more but things seem to be heading in the right direction.

Anyways, thanks for the information about Krystalica and kudos to you for such an informative journal.
Someday soon when I have the time I'll need to read all the way through. I'm sure there are lots of great tips and techniques hidden withing these 17 pages.

One of the reasons I have scallions planted in my LOS pots is to temper the odor of the strains. Cannabelle suggested it to us. She's used it to keep cannabis odors under control for quite some time.

You know, I'd actually forgotten about this and it explains why everything became more controlled in the tent despite the number of blooming plants in there. :hmmmm:

Mini post here - I still haven't harvested the Krystalica - they are ready and I think I will harvest tonight but here's some pics how they were last night after lights out.

More beautiful flowers bb! Good colors. Hope you won't mind that I ask if you feed strongly up to end? Asking because of the leaf curl. The great buds tell the real story but just curious.:Namaste:

Well Not really feeding plants at all, feeding soil yes all the way to the end, leaf curl is the ladies giving up the fan leaves so the flowers have energy to stay alive, the next step is nanners and we dont want that so I had to chop her today when I got home. This strain always turns yellow starting at week 3 and continues all the way to the end. At the end we get the leaf curl. If I let her go a few more days there will be unfertilized seeds starting to form even tho there's still white pistols. This is mainly sativa so those white pistols give me that uppity uplifting high that has to be tamed a tad with some curing.

After about 30 days in the jar, yum yum yummy, psychedelic AND very medicinal as well.

Hey Bob is it possible or worth it to bottle teas? Do you think they would keep for long? Everything I've read says not too; but why not? At the very least it is still decomposing organic matter...Or do you think that the common theory is right; not worth it due to microbes dying etc...
Cheers and lookin good!

The compost/ACT or SST both have very short shelf life. Best to use right away. IF you want to store it, and I have (SST not ACT) is simply refrigerate. ACT made from compost really is not a suitable substance to be storing in the fridge with other food sources for obvious reason.

SST teas can be suitable for human consumption and stored as such but not the ACT teas. With ACT I use in my indoor gardens as we make 5 gal at a pop, use what I can inside and the rest goes outdoors in our outdoor gardens right away. There's no waste there. ACT in the outdoor gardens works just as well if not even better out doors. If you don't have an out door garden go find one close by and water them down. Whomever owns the property should/will be very thankful, just ask/explain what you have. Most gardeners know what you have there.

None of these will store at room temp for any length of time (few hours) and will turn rancid fairly quickly. I believe that if you jarred it you would promote anaerobic bacteria to take over which can be toxic and/or cause illness and death. So I advice not to store any ACT and only SST NOT covered/not airtight in the fridge and only say 3-4 days then dump on your outdoor gardens when you start to detect foul/vinegar odor should you keep it that long. IF you out that mix that has started to turn bad in a container it will kill the plant
