Copperrein's 1st Hydro & 3rd Ever Grow: Blueberry Cookies x2 Winter 2020

No affect on quality but it a red flag your light may be too close and stressing the plant slightly. Fox tailing can also be genetics but it’s just one thing to always watch and be mindful of.

it's usually a convergence of genetics, environment, and light.

Blueberry Cookies day 87
Flower Day 28

Left: pH 5.6 (no change) 2.782 EC (⬆️) Water level: 9.5" (dropped .5")
Right: pH 5.7 (⬆️) EC 3.001 (⬆️) Water level 9" (dropped .5")

I suppose since my EC is up into the 3.0's I'll have to do the res change today. All datapoints are vaguely stable with only a few tenths or hundredths of a point change each day. Kinda boring right now at the time I thought stuff would be going all wonky...oh well :D Can't complain about less madness.

Hope everyone had a good weekend! I'm having a pretty epic Monday that Pink Kush CBD I I tossed in OF a few weeks ago popped. I really didn't expect much so it's a little happy thing to see today. I had a not-so-nice time with this strain last summer (went immediately into flower once outside despite the day/night cycle being veg-friendly. I just want to have a pretty little tight plant with fat purple flowers.

Those sweaty-handed clones I took a while back are still kicking, tho the one without a node has yet to root (I know I've gotten other non-weed plants to clone without nodes so I'm curious if I can force weed to do it, too). The one with nodes already had a few layers of axials so I popped it in some OF (no reason why I chose FF OF other than my LW is frozen solid :<)

Here's Roscoe my wrinkly old man <3 The only thing he protects is the food dish and the couch <3

Aaaand my main ladies:

IMG_0536.jpg

They've officially entered the 'stepped in dog shit' phase of danknicity. Anyone know what terpenes might be responsible for the poo smell, please let me know. I hope they don't get as stinky as the strain did outside.

and...

:green_heart: TRICHOMES :green_heart:

IMG_0534.jpg

HoooooooOMG guys....I love these plants. Trichomes always make me want to get into carnivorous plants. Man...I haven't been to a decent arboretum in years.

IMG_0538.jpg

More clones because why not? Imma give these out to a few friends who have shown a little interest in growing if they survive.

Edit: gotta show off my blue oyster cult, as well:

Nature is so freaking gorgeous and yummy <3

At least when things go wonky it less boring:p
Looks like it's all dialled in nicely, impressive. It is one method of growing I will never try. Soil, water, feed, light, harvest.. that's all I need to know..
Has Roscoe been eating your chocolates? Bit of couch lock going on:)
Main ladies are looking fantabulous my friend
Oh! I hear you on the dog poop aroma. Mine smell like dark chocolate poop at the mo. Very strange..
Shroooms. The structure of them is alien. Nature is wonderful and wierd.
All in all. Great post!:thumb:

<3 Hope you're doing well. Is the move still going on?
Thank you! Yup, its a crazy time in a crazy house. My mind feels pulled in 20 different directions, I really wish I was a more organized person .

I hate moving, I hope its the last move.

Your chocolates by the way looked incredibly yummy, you've got quite the diverse skill set!

Roscoe, what a wonderful name for a dog! How old is he? Looks like a snuggle bug!!

Good luck on the clones, its on my to do list whenever I finally take the plunge into photos

Thanks! I'm really loving the control I have with hydro. Kinda feel like I'm about to overthink my entire outdoor soil grow, tho :D

No no....no chocolate for the doggo. I think he was born couch-locked. A few weeks ago we had plumbers over to work on the septic. They arrive before all three of my dogs wake up so the pooches are completely taken by surprise when later two random dudes exit the house unescorted.

My two lady dogs immediately go into bark and hold. Roscoe? Scoots between the plumbers, into the house, where he proceeds to devour cat food. Useless for protection but he's got his priorities straight me thinks.

I keep meaning to look up which terps make the poo smell. Maybe later.

Moving is the worst. I hate it any way it's done.

Thank you....the rum flavor worked really nicely to disguise any remaining hash oil taste.

Roscoe's...10-ish? All the dogs have questionable pasts. We're suckers for hard-luck cases (he is the best cuddler since he's got a little shar pei in him, resulting in excess skin I can stick my cold toes in :D )

Yes to the tractor...it's a little mid-century Bolens with zero-OSHA involvement regarding its design. I don't think our newer John Deer could have handled some of the drifts. This is my tractor and I love her. She's small, old, kinda beat up, but will do work when it needs to be done with no complaints. Almost like me except I love complaining.

Ok, been down with a stomach bug and I feel like I've missed some replies on here so apologies if I ignored something. I'll try to catch up later when I'm not all....bleh-ish. Did the res change finally this morning. I knew I should never have installed those stupid fluid level indicators in my buckets as they came. Two of four now have had issues. I'll hit them with caulk once everything dries out. GRUMBLES. Lots of bullshit shuffling of mixed nutes this morning. Ah well...it's done and the plants are happy.

SO I THINK I FOUND A COOL THING GUYS

Did you know that some plants communicate with pollinators like bees via colors we can't even see? Well I was trying to get a sugar shot with flash so I turned the grow light off, leaving my 'far red' light on. Am I seeing IR reflection off the buds? Am I just delusional?

IMG_0549.jpg
IMG_0551.jpg

In the back of my head I assume that the calyxes only look white because the red of the light and the green leaves mix and darken everything around hot bud area. Whatever...was cool...knew you'd guys like to see. Might go try to locate my old IR photography gear and play around.

IMG_0546.jpg
IMG_0555.jpg

Yep, they seem happy.

Gripe time:

General Hydroponics: can you please do something about the rim of your containers? There's a small plastic burr that runs around the inside rim that causes the nutrients to dribble down the jug. Can you hire like....a de-burring person? Please? My hands smell like Micro :<

Anyhoo...hugs to all...imma go pass out again <3

Forgot to post my numbers from yesterday so we're skipping ahead to today. As always, my pH has spiked up day after they received fresh nutes. I did have it buffered to 5.8

Blueberry Cookies day 89
Flower Day 30

Left: pH 6.1 (up .3) 2.461 EC (⬇️) Water level: 11.5" (dropped 1")
Right: pH 6.1 (up .3) EC 2.334 (⬇️) Water level 11.5" (dropped 1")

I am pleased I'm keeping the two plants in separate buckets with individual reservoirs as close in numbers as I am.

If the pH continues to creep up, I'll address it.

Bumped the left plant with my heat lamp red light chicken warmer thing...oops. Not gonna complain...opened up the tent today and thought I had somehow given my plants rust.

Girls are still chugging along

I feel better today. Got food to stay in me \o/ so I'll be playing catch up with farm stuff but then hopefully I don't have to be all 'post and run'

OH OH OH....GUYS....

IMG_0567.jpg

MY FIRST BONG <3 All mine! I love it! It hits so differently than my friend's straight bong. So much more even and tempered. The vapor cloud is milky and smooth and omg I'm kinda....in love with it....

Blueberry Cookies day 90
Flower Day 31

Left: pH 5.8 (down .3) 2.414 EC (⬇️) Water level: 11" (dropped .5")
Right: pH 5.7 (down .4) EC 2.302 (⬇️) Water level 11" (dropped .5")

pH for both res' dropped back into a normal range as expected. Still wish I knew precisely why but whatever...ladies are healthy. I am a little concerned about the apparent slowing of water uptake. I feel like I need to rethink my inkbird probe placement. Would it be smarter to put my probe into one of my reservoirs and control ambient air temp in my tent that way? I'm really just trying to keep my solutions at 68f (currently hovering around 62f) so nothing's getting locked out, especially now in flower. Currently my temp probe is just hanging out in the tent in the air.

 that name

They are looking healthy. No discoloration at all. Unfortunately I know nothing about your problems. Hopefully some one can help out. @Bill284 is a clever chap and if he doesn't know I'm sure he can recommend someone to have a look.

I know a lot of people think hydro is scary...but it's actually pretty great. It requires just enough attention that my normally self-sabotaging controlling OCD issues are happy to redirect their negative influences into positive micro-management of my plants \o/

Not kidding about going back to soil...I feel like soil is the frontier of growing after doing a hydro grow :D All those lawless microbes and that weather. HOW WILL I CONTROL EVERYTHING? *internal screaming*

Girls are looking great!

Great question on the probe. If you're certain there is no big temp swings going on, leave it near the foliage.

The res is sitting off the floor and will closely mimic the indoor temps (with slower fluctuations).

If you put the sensor in the res, it'll require a greater fluctuation of ambient air temp to change the temperature. In other words, when the probe/inkbird kicks on, your system will have more catching up to do.

I just like keeping a sensor in the res/root zone just to keep an eye on things. I also like to view reservoir inside a grow space as a thermal battery of sorts.

Plants are looking great and Gorgeous bong! Hope it tastes as good as her namesake Lol.
Every time we think about moving to another state just for a "change of scenery " i see pics like out your front door and say "mmmm, maybe not!"

Thanks, @Rexer ! Oh hah...the slower keeling with the probe in the solution makes sense. I did a dumb :D (honestly amazed I still have 10 fingers)

@Southerncough yeah yeah...rub it in. At least we're not Texas or Flo*coughs* ANYWAYS thank you as well for the kind words.

I'm itching to harvest and get the next and biggest crop started. 12 plants / 11 varieties. Can't wait to taste my own hydro weed. I am kind of expecting it not to be as good as my outdoor stuff mostly because of the well water and no RO. My outdoor girls get some well water but also get the benefit of rain.

Ok, dumb question but...how do I really measure pH in outdoor grows where I can't really collect runoff? I see so much debate online.

I will admit that summers here are BRUTAL but the winters are lovely. We only have two seasons: summer and diet summer LOL.
we can always take a trip to see snow and then come home and chill at the beach.
As for checking pH outdoors, i say let the microbes deal with it!

All caught up. Looking great @copperrein - and may I say you have done a really great job of training them (if i haven't already). Those edibles on the leaf look incredible!!

Omg I love it when the UK gets snow. Everyone gets so excited and seems to immediately go outside and play in it. I imagine since it's not as common there you guys dont have all the salt trucks and plows we have? Does everything just shut down? Can you get out of work?
As @Squiggle said, the UK pretty much goes into melt down when we get more than an inch of snow  Last time we had a lot of snow down my way, the council forgot to send the gritters out the night before it was forecasted, i mean...

I had to work from home for 2 days. (back then I wasn't at home fulltime - although it feels like it's been forever)
Hey Copper, Light in flower is funny. They want lots of it but not too much and it's tough to know that place. One way I try to get to the sweet spot is to watch for especially frosty top buds. That's the height the plant wants to see. My grows usually have a 3 to 6 inch canopy difference, (yours look much tighter than mine so I don't know if this is a thing for you right now, but they frost up a little better in the sweet zone if we can find it. I usually have one cola that gets extra frost so I set the light there. It's a tweak not a worry. Looking great here!
That is a great tip @StoneOtter - check which buds are the happiest and you know thats the ideal :high-five:
