Conquer's Lavender Grow 2010!

Looking good!!! Your bud sites are looking more full than mine and I am at day 39, makes me think my ladies are going to be a while before they are ready. Can't wait to try your budz out!!! ;)

Yeah they're starting to fill in really nice. I'm guessing they should be ready at the end of this month. You'll get a sample for sure!:passitleft:

:bravo: Looking good man. Keep up the good work. I'd say yea, hit them with a little extra nitrogen and/or calmag. Just my opinion, but I like to keep them nice and green from the soil up all the way to flush if possible.

....either way, they're looking great man. I take it you got a hold on the potassium thing?

Seeya later,
J:ganjamon:

Thanks!! Yeah the K issue seems resolved, although the damaged leaves from it are still looking bad. Oh well, as long as they keep putting on bud weight I'll be happy. And I'll give a dose of Grow Big with the next watering to up their nitrogen.

Thanks brotha!!:thanks:

Medicated and thinking I might like to run a recirculating dwc in the near future. I know I said I am not a hydro guy, but I would like to see if I can do it. I've been looking at some hydro grows lately, and I definitely like the faster growth and bigger yield potential that it has to offer.

Does anyone have an opinion about recirculating DWC setups??

I knew it was a matter of time. I have been thinking about going hydro down the road also. I know Linda's had some good setups. I have spent $160 on soil the last 3 months and $80 of that was in the last month and I will continue to go through it even quicker. It is also getting hard to get to all my plants in my flowering tent. These 2 things are what got me thinking.:ganjamon:

I've switched to coco for all the above. Hydro growth, cheap to buy, easy to dispose after use. Water to waste means no big res to maintain or change. Wastes less.

Since you're watering by hand, how often do you need to water? Also, do container sizes differ with coco as opposed to soil??

My trial grow was in very small one liter pots w/ coco. From one foot veg to 32 - 36" tall PEs yielding 50g each. I didn't have proper pots when needed, then I was too far into flower to risk so I kept watering twice per day. Coco absorbs more water faster than FFOF, so I just pour it in fast. It also allows healthy plants with too many roots for comfort. My present PEs went to flower earlier and into 2 liter vessels. They seem to do fine so far watered once, one or two hours after lights on. 900 ppm in, 1500 out. My newest grow is eight GWS in 3 liter vessels, and they will veg to a foot for the flip. I'm not worried about cramped root quarters, but I wouldn't push this envelope with soil. I'm totally hydro, inert media lets me control exactly what they get, with daily excess runoff. 10 to 30% extra. Soil size pots(big) with coco would be fine of course, but not necessary in my grow.
Here's my trial grow at 44 days flower

Great PG! its a wicked medium. Biodegradable and all. Just watch out for the bite in the ass with cal/mag/iron deficiencies. You know the drill. You wanna know a trick I've learned over the years tho? You use your old coco (from the last harvest) and as long as your plants were healthy/or you add new beneficials/ if you use that for your cuttings you'll save alot of time dealing with the clone/seedling related deficiencies associated with coir. The Coir will hold more of the calcium, magnesium, and Iron after even a final flush than you'd think. I found it a huge help in cloning in coir, and seedling sprouting in coir..........uh, sorry to go off.........
but I have very few coir growers to geek out with. I've been using coir for a while now, and it gets lonely being a coir grower. lololoolool

Much smaller pots are needed. Coir is a passive hydroponic medium, meaning that it acts as a hydroponic substrate while maintaining the consistancy propertiess of soil. The biggest benefits are that roots are much more likely to grow horizontally in the coir than in a typical hydroponic setup. That means wider plants, more branching, and higher yield. Also, you cant really overwater coir, unless you have alot of water (and i mean ALOT) sitting in the bottom. It contains beneficial fungus and bacteria (unless it is steamed) and .......uh...........wait? WOW, sorry to go off on you, but I love the stuff. anyways, I have a plant in a 5 \14" square pot that yielded 40g. First run with this strain C99, so you get more yield per ".

Ok, sorry agoin for the books. I'm medicated and tired, sorry to post if it's already been said, but I'm full of coco info if your interested.

Gunight...ZZZZzzzzZZZzzzZZZzzZZzzzzzzz

Thanks for the coco info guys! Those are beautiful plants Gator! You weren't kidding when you said smaller containers can be used...that is some huge growth for those 1L pots!

Ok, you guys are making coco sound badass. I definitely like the idea of not having to change out a big reservoir like if I went the DWC route. My only concern is that with everyday waterings, I wouldn't be able to go out of town ever (Not that I go out of town that much).

Thanks a bunch. I will do some more research on coco. It may very well be hydro route I choose.

Just one thing more, and I'll go back to my cage. Drip emitters will replace angle connectors for fertigation. I'll start with half gallon/hr, but larger are available. With a digital timer and a little pump strong enough to work the emitters, a feed-tank and waste sump complete automation. Just dial it in for a few days, and you're not chained to the grow. ;)

cool. The only thing is you might end up spending more on nutes vs soil. Not necissarily, but its likely. I always end up with a collection regardless. lol

Yea, but it should turn out cheaper in the beginning because I was planning to drop some bills for a dwc system. For the coco route, just the nutes and a ppm meter will be my big initial cost...and not having to haul big bags of soil around!

:ganjamon:

You'll spend more on nutes WTW coco than with dirt but less than with other recirculating hydro. Small change on a daily basis. Pots will cost something, but the PIA is catching the daily runoff. That's why a way was found to use recycled 2 or 3 liter soda bottles, drains through the tops are easy once I figured it out. The pump for auto-feeding needs only capacity to push a 30' head for pressure. Volume capacity won't matter because it's small. Half gallon/hr each plant for approx 15 minutes once or twice daily. The availability of H&G Cocos makes coco irresistable. I don't have, can't right now afford their additives but the base nutes are boss.
While I have and use my ppm meter, my readings make absoutely no difference. No adjustments nor changes nor compensations. If it breaks, I won't replace it. The 25$ pH meter is vital I think, but I could be wrong. Chelated micros and balanced macros are effective for no-brainer grows. :peace:

UPDATE:

So, I will be harvesting one of my plants tonight. It is the one that was having the deficiency issues. I have been closely monitoring it over the last 2 weeks, and it has refused to put on any more bud weight..not even a little bit. The buds that it already has have stopped growing and have just been ripening. I checked the trichs under a 60x magnifier last night and they are 90% milky, with a few turning amber. SO it's gonna get the chop! Today is day 40 of flower, and other two girls still have a week or two to go. I don't know why this one is so early..even with the deficiency problems. :scratchinghead::surrender:
I am very disappointed. The yield from that plant is going to be SMALL...The buds never got a chance to fill out to their full potential. I screwed the pooch on this one!
On a more positive note.....The buds she does have are nice and frosty and smell like lemon drops...mmm I can't wait to try them!:yummy:

Expect chop pics verry soon!!

Ok,

Here's some pics of the harvest. Like I said before, I'm very disappointed in the yield...but at least I got a little bit from it. And it smells tasty!! Just smoked a little finger-hash ball..mmm!

1 down, 2 to go. Then it's Lavender's turn to flower!!

with all the fan leaves trimmed it looks mighty sparse
