Come Grow With Me: A Beginners Guide

This is a long one guys because it deals with plant issues such as Water, Light & Pest Trouble Shooting. But lots of good info in it so here we go.

Next up is the Intake Air. I also use a 4" Inline Fan & Carbon Filter for this. Only this is one of those plastic housing inline fans & they only put out 190 CFM. It will still do the job just fine. In the pic you'll see I installed a Dryer Air Vent.
I had to go buy 4" duct today & all Walmart had was the kit so I installed it for the hell of it. Not necessary. Just 4" duct coming in through the tent duct hole works fine. Once again, attach your fan so it is sucking air in through the filter. Connect your duct to the fan & you are good to go. Since I'm sucking fresh air through a filter & into the tent it will require me to run this fan a little faster to keep up with the exhaust. I just leave the Intake Fan & Filter outside the tent to supply air from the house. Usually cooler in here then outside.
Here's some pics of the Intake Air Install.

Ok, Gonna have a million questions for you when setting up my ventilation system(s) in a multi tent system.

First Question for you Buds (sorry maybe I was reading to fast and missed something).

Is it necessary to have an outdoor air source if the girls already seem to be performing at optimal levels?

Thank you.

Hope I'm making sense cause I am super-mega-baked :passitleft:

thanks for sharing Water, Light & Pest Troubleshooting
I definitely bookmarked that as there is just so much to read lol!

@Ljb1, i think buds buddy called it with water splatter. Not sure what you use to water the plant, but
to stop it from happening, either don't fill up your bottle to the top or get one of those water bottle caps. When you open the cap and turn it the water won't come out until you squeeze it.

I've just been thinking about how "They Say" so much has changed in over the past 4 years I've been growing.
Especially the part of not pH-ing your nutrients. I personally think that is total B.S. & I'll continue to pH every time.
Funny I see a lot of people who don't pH having issues.
The Feed till the end or Flush at the end thing is also different. I've done it both ways & no real difference other then the flushed plants seemed smoother to smoke.
Bud Washing. LOL ! That's for veggies in my book. Tried that too & made my buds light & fluffy. Only way I'd do it again is if I had flying pests during flower that got stuck in my buds.
A lot of stuff I read I find to be useless junk. (Well, I find that out after I try it)
So I just decided the best way for me is stick with the old school tried & tested ways of growing. It was simpler then all this crap I hear now days.
It would be fun to do a journal against someone who believes all the hyped up Bro-Science. Not to see who yields the most (but that can be included); but to see who runs into more issues with their plants. I truly believe I'd win by keeping it simple & not doing all that much. I spend about 20 - 30 min. per day in my grow room & that's it. I see if they need fed or to be LST'd & then I'm gone. See them the next day & repeat. They seem to like that better then a whole lot of attention.
Here I go rambling again.
I have been ph-ing at 5.6 until i got a little (K) def then moved up 5.9 -6/2, i relay on the lime charge to bring me up, when i got the def i knew my lime was not cutting it so good so went up a couple of points . gives you peace of mind being in the zone:cheesygrinsmiley:

My 1st couple grows I did without Air Intake. It works but harder to keep temps low. Also the intake brings fresh Co2 into the grow room which makes the plants grow faster. But you can grow without for now & add it next grow if that's what you need to do. Just keep in mind, the better you get your environment the more rapid growth you'll get.

That's for sure. I'm not worried about any pH fluctuations causing plants to get a nutrient uptake issue this way. It could still happen; but not as likely. I think that's the biggest issue of not pH-ing.
i add three different limes , into my hydro soil , dont cook , put in the plants , close my eyes and hope for the best lol , i always start lower and go up when i see a def from further up the scale , it work's for me so i don't read to much into not ph-ing ,
i seen a guy do a perfect grow , made a tea didn't ph and his plants went like crap in days , and that was compost or a fungal tea not too sure , i think what ever works for you , stick to it and don't fix things that are unbroken :thumb:

The thing I've been noticing here lately (pretty much since they started this no pH thing a year or 2 ago) is that people are having nute def. or tox. quite frequently. 1st they try correcting with nutes & additives & it doesn't get better or it gets worse. Then someone (like me) comes along & suggests that the soil pH is off which is usually the case. I believe it's not pH-ing your nutes that cause this. I know lime is suppose to correct it. But I'm not going to count on Lime getting my pH in the best range possible. I would think the characteristics in lime would break down throughout the grow & do it's job less effectively when you throw nutes at it in all different pH ranges. Not sure if it works that way as I need to read up on lime. But that's my thinking on it.

i have it in my head that the lime takes longer to activate ( depending on the limes ) so if i hit it with a ph of 5.6 then as the soil dries the lime is raising the ph slowly in the range for the rest of the nutrient chart i want so im hitting all targets, even if its not how it works i feel better and more comfortable doing this, this is why i use fresh hydro soil that's just been mixed , no cooking or not letting the lime buffer it up , i want it low lol , (every one to their own) :ganjamon:its just the tip of the iceberg , every one has their own ways of doing things, and if it works , don't knock it :meatballs:

Yeah, I just use FFOF & don't add anything to it. Just MC & Terp. Since switching to these products & changing to the Mars TSW 2000 my yields have doubled. Not sure which thing caused it or if it was the combo of things but like McDonalds .... "I'm Lovin' It".

Here's a question for you. If you were having a really nice grow & talking about it, "Would you consider it a Compliment or an Insult" if someone said to you .... Damn, you're about as happy as a punk in a peter patch ?
Something we use to say to the guy winning when we were playing cards ... lol.

Hey guys, got another good Journal Link for you. It tells you how to take a Clone from a Photo Plant & find out if it's M -or- F before you flower your plants. Easy way to get the males out before flowering. I know 1st hand that it works as I've done it. Just not the exact method they used. I just put mine in a cup of water & started 12/12 right away. Had roots in about 7 days & planted it. Few days later was able to tell sex. Kept the females growing on 12/12 & got this really cool Budsickle on 1 of them that weighed about .5 oz. I'll find a pic later today.
Here's that link : Early Sexing Clones In Hempy Cups

Sorry folks, I am really just trying to learn and stuff and not post.

Surprisingly!!!, I do not PH.
When the time is right I'll be happy to buy one of those $300 PH instruments that every shady grow shop tries to sell to nubes.

But I have actually used tons of lime with conventional farming.

It isn't worth a pile of horse-shit unless it has time to break-down. Now I am sure there is a ton of university research (my dad taught me how to utilize college research and stuff) on the topic.

I use gypsum in my soil blends, BUT, the gypsum is like a base ingredient. I usually put it in my first compost run, basically when I first get my horse manure.

Why do I use gypsum? Well because some old timer told me to use it and it seems to work.

I can see adding things to outdoor soil. Soil in AZ. is low on N for instance. But you can buy the bagged stuff for growing weed indoors already pre-mixed. Do people think they're smarter than the scientists who formulated this stuff or what ? I truly don't understand their thinking. LOS is a different situation of course. But then again; by time you purchase all the ingredients to mix it the cost probably comes out the same as buying premixed soil & Mega Crop. So all they've added is more work. I try to keep it as cheap & simple as possible on my actual grows. My money's invested in Climate Control & Lights as those things are most important for large yields.

My soil works out at £1.20 per 5 gallon pot, maybe less, so i use my savings for munchies  but im lucky i live near farms and seafood producers , so some arefree . i make bottled nutes, amino acids , foliar feeds from free stuff too:cheesygrinsmiley:
stops me losing the plot altogether lol :snowboating:
