Come Grow With Me: A Beginners Guide

your fine to mention a name, just don't link to them
I can tell you 1st hand that you can not mention the name of competitors lights. I've been warned against it by Teddy.
That's how I ended up buying Mars lights in the 1st place. Because I wasn't allowed to mention the name of the lights I was using. I have a journal on here where they edited out the name of the light.

Newbie here so I am very appreciative with all the great information and thanks for all your postings so far.
A little overwhelmed but l'll definitely try/do a lot of what you say for my next grow.
Only difference is I'm hoping to do a combination of outdoor/indoor growing.
Outdoors during the day to take advantage of the sun and indoors under light at night.
I have a similar, if not the same, tent so I'm looking at light sources now.

Yes, but rules don't allow me to say what magazines they came from. I get them Free at the Hydro Stores & take out the useful info to save on my computer for future reference. They're kind of sticklers when it comes to things you can & can not say. I got spanked by a Mod once for mentioning the name of a light from an ex-sponsor. I was told that sponsor caused a lot of arguments between members over who's light was better. I found out after I posted it what had happened as I wasn't a member when it all happened. So I try to be careful of what I post.
Goooot it. Makes corporate world sense. I ordered some stronger lights, per your advice, I do believe. Not sponsored, but my wallet couldn't handle the Mars brand at the moment.

I had to upgrade little by little after each grow. Started with 4 CFL Bulbs & a cardboard box. Takes time to get the better equipment. I don't have the best but it satisfies me so I'm happy & that's what really matters.

Well Chitola. Waited for the stepson to move out so I'd have the extra bedroom for my 5x5. Got it all going & now Mother in law is selling her house & needs to stay here for a few months till her new place is ready. So I have a bunch of tent moving to do over the next few days. This sucks ! But my Mother in law has always been great to me so I can't turn her down.
I'll still keep this journal rolling while I make changes. Let the fun begin !

Moving big tents from room to room is so much fun :lot-o-toke:

When you click "Grow Journals" a box pops up with 3 choices. Then you click "Journals in Progress". Then you click "Post Thread". You should then be able to start your journal. That 2nd page says you can't post there because that's where you choose what you want to do. It's weird because there's nothing saying New Journal or Start Journal. It's not in Progress till you start it. But that's what you have to click. I had the same issue when I started doing journals.

Just a little pic update. Moved my LST ties back a little this a.m. as they grew about 1/2" in the past 24 hours. Haven't watered / fed this girl in almost a week. She's taking forever to dry. My pots usually dry in 2 - 3 days at most. Guess I got her really wet when I up-potted.

Well I've got a bunch more info articles for you guys. I know some of this info I've posted but it's additional info on the subject from another source.
However, I have a Big Read I have to Crop & Resize later to post. It has to do with Pests & Leaves.
But for now I'd like to give some additional info on Photosynthesis & Lighting.
You will surely know plenty when I get done with this journal.
Then you all can help ....

OK, nuff said about Light, Ventilation, VPD & Photosynthesis. I'm sure you've got a basic understanding of that by now.
So time to move on to Pests & Problem Solving, Nutrients, pH & ppm & things like that. So I'll be back later to get that started.
Party On !

Yeah. My set up is quite sad compared to others. but my next grow will have a better set up. Thanks to some overtime money from work and some of the awesome advice I've gotten from the people here. Im so excited for the next grow, but im even more excited to watch my current girl flourish from the great advice Ive gotten here.

I usually purchase new equipment after each grow if you know what I mean. 25% of the grow is dedicated to upgrades.
1 or 2 more grows & I'll have all I can possibly use & wont need much after that.
People here are very helpful. Especially if you've been on some other sites. You may never get an answer on them.
Been there, done that. You've got a good site here.

Hope this is okay to post here Buds. Thought it would be a good place for the conversation. Sorry it's quite a long post.

So I've just ordered my first proper tent. The DIY one is doing well but won't last too long without regular maintenance I don't think. I picked up a new 40x40x120cm monster buds urban tent for the bargain price of £35. Will tuck away nicely inside the built in wardrobe. Now I'm thinking about extraction. I have a 4" filter coming with the tent and have either a 120mm 52CFM USB fan or 4" 107m3/h inline fan and controller to use with it. I know it's against most advice but I'm contemplating mounting the fan and filter outside of the tent so I can utilise the full space.

The tent is 6.78 ft3. So if I add 40% to compensate for the filter, heat and small amount of ducting (it should be right outside the tent and avoid having any bends) that would be 9.49 CFM required. Then if you look at only replacing the air once every 3 minutes that would go down to 3.16 CFM. So I know it's not the most efficient way but I'm thinking for such a small tent that setup should be okay. I'd also put the pre filter onto the intake end of the run to help protect the fan and filter.

Wondering what others thoughts would be on this?
