Colombian Andes Greenhouse SIP CBD Auto Grow

Yeah, except I just topped off the reservoirs like two days ago.
The top of the soil looks dry because I am not mulching, but once the little babies stand up, they stay standing up.
I think you said you weren't watering from the top. I'm guessing the roots aren't sufficiently developed to get all water needs from the reservoir.

RE: Nitrogen
That is an excellent question. I wish I knew the answer!
What kinds of things can cause an N deficiency?
I think Azi is right – rice hulls are breaking down, shifting pH, etc. It turns out rice hulls are not inert – they have low lignin content. Coco coir has around twice the lignin. I think the solution for you now is a high-N liquid fert.

Correct. (Good memory!)

All of the older girls have roots in the res.

Oy....

!!
Oy...
Ok, I will try to use some high-N "veg" fertilizer when I top off reservoirs tomorrow.
Thank you and Azi! :thumb:

Hmmm.....
Oy, it says "GROW", but the N is not very high....

I can search for an organic high-N fertilizer here, but I am not sure what my choices realistically are, and there will probably also be a delay.
If I cannot find anything locally soon, what are my other options? (I think FAA in water would likely smell a lot indoors...)

:rofl:Well, I also have some liquid Grow fertilizer. Could I water with that, to add N?
I'm not sure how the organic fertilizers work when added to the reservoir. I had very poor results when it did so but I also had the soil elevated above the water with my clay balls. Now that I have my soil mix all the way down to the reservoir level I'm planning on trying my knf/jadam ferts that way again but haven't run the experiment yet.

Ahhh, I thought the rice hulls were more or less inert???
No. They are organic and will break down over time. That process temporarily robs N from the mix as the microbes use it for their purposes. This is another reason organic mixes need to "cook" for a bit to stabilize the mix before you plant. Different organics decompose at different rates. Rice hulls are slower for sure but in the quantities you mixed them in they could certainly be causing a problem.

The FAA is pretty well diluted when you add it. I use it indoors and haven't noticed a smell issue.

Click on "My custom soil mix" in my signature, and read the last paragraph. ;)

Oy... I am supposed to pee in the reservoir??? :-/
 In proper society one would probably use a glass jar and then pour it into the reservoir, but, you do you!

🤣 get creative, brother

Umm... does @GeoFlora Nutrients VEG count as "high-N"?
Those nutrients slow release over 2 weeks so by then you'd be better, but I'm not sure you want to wait.

And has anyone mixed it, and added it to the res?
Or is res-watering with GF strictly verboten? (Or simply, "Not recommended..."?)
Not recommended. They suggest topdressing and getting it wet,  not dissolving it in water.

I was curious, since I have roots down in the rez with the larger girls, why FAA in the res wouldn't work.
(So, now I have to choose between bathroom smell, and a rotten fish smell?? Oy... :-/

Yeah, ok, I need to get the girls some N....

Was that the brown sugar for six months kind?
Or the water for three weeks kind?
I will have to check my jars, and see what I might have that has N that doesn' stank...
Concur, haha.

Haha, you knew what I meant (and still you joked me anyway!! I guess that is the price you pay on a forum, hahahaha....)
Such compassion! Haha.

Yeah, good point.
So I need to see which is less stinky: pee or rotten water-fish, or maybe I will have a sugar-fish by now?? (I have to check...)

Good to know!! Haha.... thanks! :thanks:

ha,, cute chat subject i stumbled upon,,

something i discovered early on in my cannabis adventure,, urine as a fertilizer

tho i have yet to see the word urine

truth be told,, urine is near a perfect fertilizer and could possibly save the world,, perhaps along with the cannabis plant,,

i will gladly admit to using urine to suppliment my outdoor veggy garden especially and compost bin

i don't use it much for cannabis anymore, but i have,, my fert choice these days do not require it

so much fertilizer is used every year around the world,, at such a cost,, indeed, to this poor planet,,

in a perfect world there would not be all this waste,,

peace out folks,,

Yes, but I would add from a "clean" source. Much of our populations use pharmaceuticals that can survive the process. Waste treatment plants test their output and regularly find stuff I wouldn't want in my body. So things like hormones in birth control pills, etc. If it were me I'd want to know my source didn't have something in it that would be absorbed by my plants.

I don't know why. I progressed through all of my Jadam and KNF extracts to try to reverse a nitrogen deficiency and nothing worked, not even my fish fertilizer which I consider my most potent and effective, worked.

KNF sugar version.

KNF sugar version.
Uff. I have a KNF suger version, but it says "Open January 23."
The water version smells worse than urine!
Outdoors I would be totally good with it, but at the moment the grow room is still in the house, on the main floor, and we have lunch meetings, and visitors. We are trying to keep everything super clean. I don't think I can afford to introduce a bad smell.

I searched my known Colombia vendors, and I did not see anything with high-N.
I could hypothetically put Veganics GROW in the reservoir, but it only shows an N of 3 :-/
Is there any kind of chelated organic I could buy off of The Nile River and have shipped quickly, that could be put in the rez?
Or is there any kind of organic foliar feed I could try, to boost N (without a bad smell)?

In proper society one would probably use a glass jar and then pour it into the reservoir, but, you do you!
I live in the jungle and have been doin' permaculture for a long time. If you can get over the eeew factor, you have tapped into a free super fertilizer. Plants love it. Must be diluted in water – I use 2 qt per 5 gal water, which is 1:10 ratio.

absolutely correct,, nice to see you did the research ,, one of the logistical, physical, psychological, nightmares

Do you have any LAB? You could water with FAA in and then if you do notice a smell, spray the top of the soil with that. LAB is an incredible organic smell neutralizer.
Ohhh.... not yet. I think you gave me the recipe once before, and I was still trying to figure out my soil, and had limited time.
Is it simple to make?
