Colombian Andes Greenhouse SIP CBD Auto Grow

Congrats on the sprouts and the mounds! :cheer: I'm glad the warmer temps are working for you.

If they didn't have tails going in (like Azi and I do when planting) then you can pull them out if they haven't rotted and try again when it's warmer. It's worth a shot over tossing them in the bin!

:goodluck: getting the hoop house finished.
Yeah, thanks, Shed!
I am thinking it was the temps.
I think we are up to 11 noses and necks up, and another bulge, so we will see!
We have to rearrange the nursery tomorrow, to see if we can string lights.
It was kind of a scrambled-and-pressured start, but with a dozen autos in SIPs I am thinking my bud woes will soon be history!
Thanks for the good thoughts and encouragement!

Hey, CBD!
Sorry about that, amigo!
(Lo siento, ¡perdón!)
I appreciate your help!
I did not plan this, but it seems like my time gets less and less each week.
Probably the day after tomorrow we will search Colombia for someone Colombia who already knows Jadam or KNF, and is looking for an opportunity to do their very best on an eco-sustainable project.
I would love :green_heart:to learn all about KNF, Jadam, and all these things, but I don't see any possibility that I will have time.
I must run right now. I have to prepare for tomorrow. Things are changing quickly and it is all good, but I have to run right now, in order to make the dream come true...
(It would be a real Bummer to come all this way, and drop the egg basket now...! So I need to press on....)

You can see the rebar and the parapet wall here.
I have my hands full right now, and first priority has to be the nursery, but one way or another, it will be great to salvage the hoop tunnel!

I’ve been trying to appender espanol for a few months but I’m nowhere close to being fluent yet. It’s pretty cool though because the words I do know I can kind of piece together to understand what someone is saying. Good luck with your greenhouse mi hermano. CL🍀
¡Hola capitán!
If you know that much Spanish after only a few months, you are doing well!
It is great when you finally get to that point where you can piece words together, and you can start expanding your vocabulary. It is an exciting point to be at!
Thanks for the positive vibes, capitán!
May your Spanish keep getting better!

The paper towel method is also more compact and portable, so you can move them to the warmest spot you have.
I need to remember that if I ever have to plant in cold again (I hope not!! Brr...!!).
I was thinking paper towel would be the best for old seed.

Also, if you have a lot of seeds (say, if you grew your own), does it ever help to crack a bunch of them, and then pick the ones that grow the fastest?
(Like, soak 40 and pick the best 6, or whatever?)
Or does that not really work?

We do lose power and internet a lot (and water, actually).
Tomorrow I will probably be super busy during the day, and then I hope to check in, in the evening.
Hopefully I can report progress on finding a good workman.
After tomorrow, maybe we can put out an ad for a Colombian KNF or Jadam person.
(I would love to do it, but I have less time every week.)
I hope to check in tomorrow night.
Thanks for all the help!

That's a good way if you're selecting the most robust plants for a grow, but I would think that giving them at least a few weeks would be good before culling.

Don't think you need 40 for 6 though! 10 would probably be fine. :)

I don't think you can really tell much in plant robustness from early seedlings. To me, they either sprouted or they didn't. Not every seed will germinate so maybe sprout a few extra if you're concerned to make sure you get the count you want but I don't think you can determine that much difference between those that did sprout until much later.

Hahahaha!
Ok, 10!
Good to know, thanks!

Ok, that's good to know.
(I will skip the experiment on that one.)
Thanks, Azi! :thanks:

that's great! 🌱
Thanks!
I am pretty happy! :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:
The good little girls got wet with the "rains", but waited for the warmth before sprouting!

I've never had that much good seed ;)
Oh???
People are telling me I need to isolate the males or I will have seeds in everything.
Or are you perhaps teasing, because you are a cloner???

I just got out of meetings, I need to check the nursery.
We got some more bulges...
I need to remove some helmets...
Back in a while...

Ok, we have 13 seeds up, plus one extra neck, for a total of 14! (Praise!)
I had to remove some helmets, but the carnage was not nearly so bad as I thought, so I was pretty happy about that!

One of my assistants had time to put skirts on the clear plastic pots today, to shade the girls' roots (which is more modest).
The lighting is about as Mickey Mouse a setup as I have ever put together (two Lifetime folding tables standing on end, and zip-tied open), but I got out of meetings late, and I had zero time to build a light frame today.
Tomorrow we can try to put up a frame, or a rod to hold up the lamps.
But at least for right now, 14 of the girls are alive, and growing! (So the situation is much better than I thought!)

If they are not up in a few days I will remove (six?) buckets without live seedlings, and see if I can recover the seeds.
Once the seeds are up, can one safely disconnect the heat mats? (Or leave them on the heat mats for a while?)

Here are the rest of the girls.
It seems like 14 autos in SIPs definitely *might fit (especially considering that 4 of them are Northern Light [CBD], which normally grows small, and compact.

Not a super-impressive setup right now, I know, but at the moment, this is what I've got.
The lights are two China Express 1200W lights with Samsung LEDs.
I bought them as a backup, because I thought we *might have to move to a neighboring country, and grow clandestine (and it still *could happen).

At least at the moment, the two 1200W LEDs seem to be enough.
At least the girls do not seem too leggy.

I lightly dusted around the perimeter with Recharge, and then tried to spray wide (to make them stretch their roots), but there was some over-spray.

I should say that I am REALLY enjoying having the extra heat in the house!
I am sure I will proceed with the greenhouse when I find a good helper, but for the moment I think I just need to put up a light bar and hang more lights (and also put mylar on the walls).
That way I can have a nursery, and an indoor perfumery, and maybe also a constant harvest?
(And then we can get to the greenhouse when we can get to it?)

It is 1:15 AM.
I got to get to bed (and there is maybe an hour of work left).
I am super happy to have 14 CBD autos growing in SIPs!
I am waiting for them to find the reservoir...

Oh???

I just mean,...I buy seed, it's expensive, and I might have 10 seeds tops of one variety. I'm not breeding and producing seed, but I'd like to in the future for the purpose of crossing two strains. Anyway, I agree with what the others have said... best to let them grow up into plants before selecting the best plants.

Yes, I'm a cloner... BUT... I bring in new strains periodically... I'm actually about to order some seeds.

RE: isolate the males. As soon as your plants show their sex, you should identify the males. If you don't plan on breeding, you can just toss them out in the compost. If you want to harvest some pollen, that's another story.

Yeah, no, I don't mind paying for a good photo seed. A good photo summer grow yields mass bud, so $15 is nothing.
$15 for autos, well, that is another matter....

I am on auto fems right now, but eventually (once I get situated) I want to do regular photoperiods, and save seed.
It is definitely nice to introduce new strains. Medicann says they have multiple black CBD varieties in the pipeline (and I am sure I will snag those when they come out).

I will hope to learn the basics of breeding, when the time comes. Right now I am just trying to stuff some jars and Malawi ferment bags...

Congrats on the 14! :woohoo:
Thanks, Shed! But it is 15 now! (WooHoo indeed!!)
That is 75%. Not too bad, considering I let them get too cold!
The irony is that the only seeds I was worried about were the Northern Lights CBD, and they all came up! :)
Cannabis plants like warmth, so if the heat mats are the only thing keeping the temps out of the 60s then they should stay in there the whole time!
Ohhh.... ok we just picked those up today for the 15 that have sprouted.
I put four lights on our old clothes drying racks (which we don't need here, because they have a built-in line.
Surface temps are 75-76F on the top of the pots, and also on the tile floor near the lights.

ttt.jpg

But you are right!
Under the pots it will probably still be cold, so I should probably put the heat mats back down, if only to insulate the buckets from the cold tile floor (and then we will see about turning them on or not, later).

Hahaha, maybe I'm just stoned, but I kinda thought the clothes drying racks look like those Imperial Walkers from Star Wars, hahaha.
Probably tomorrow I will pull out the 5 that have not sprouted or bulged, and then re-arrange the 15.
Thanks for all the good wishes and advice!
