Clones Are killing me - I'm 2 for 12

I had 100% w/o #6!? Cup o' perlite worx excellent! I've read about peeps doin' the #6 part-- is this written in some book or something?
I don't know if it is in a book, but it doesn't hurt !

Mist... mist... mist... n just cause u just did... mist again... do it SO u don't have to water it

Too much misting leads to mold, powdery mildew, and rot. Also the lack of a dome and over-misting encourages the cutting to take water up from the stem and leads to faster rooting. Usually misting at the time of cutting and 12 hours later is all that is needed. Once in a while you may have one that may wilt a little after that and may have to give it another light spritz, but less is better.

*I wouldn't advise DIRECT 24hr light on any UNrooted clone... maybe 4-6 hrs tops--

Agreed ! Shop lights or 13 watt CFL in a clamp on reflector will do the trick. In the past I ran them for 24 hours with no harm, but now that I have my mothers on the GLR, I also set my cuttings to the same light schedule.

i seem to be out of perlite will vermiculite work ok?
Yes it will, but you already know that it retains more water and it will be harder to judge as you taper off. I switched to 100% perlite last year for cloning and hempies and I will never go back to using vermiculite. I like the way that perlite drains, but it does hold more moisture than people give it credit for...

Best of luck to you !

my clones made it through the night just fine, i have not sprayed them yet this morning, i agree with you about mold and rot, its been my biggest killer. think they have had about 8 hours without mist so far so im gonna try and push for 12.

dont know if you have peeked at my journal at all but im using these fantastic airpot substitutes that the community have named GiGaPoTs =) they are amazing for drainage so will reduce a good deal of the trouble i may encounter using vermi instead of perli ;)

the great thing about using vermi in a gigapot is that i think i can drop it straight into a tub of water when it does have roots for a modified DWC style grow as im about to demonstrate in my next journal update with some clones i previously had success with, but are currently in soil.

I just dont get how it can be so easy for everyone.

Did a DWC cloner with PPM at like 180 PH between 5.3-6.2 never worked

Did a aero cloner with roughly the same stats on the water. Never worked.

Tried dome cloning in rockwool, perlite, soil, jiffy pucks, 2 out of 40 worked and it took them 34 days to root.

Try the perlite again and lose the dome. Domes and too much misting keep the cutting from transpiring. If it is not transpiring, it will not draw water up from the stem. The sooner you can get it taking up water the better off they will be.

The next trick is in tapering off the watering as you go. The new roots don't like to be standing in water(with the exception of an aerocloner).

Great !! I am glad to hear it. I was gonna ask you what a "gigapot" was, lol ! I will check out your journal for sure.

lol does everyone have like 20 air pumps coming out of their ass or something 😢

i will get some at some point, but the way money is atm its a fair way off, well i may break the bank a little and get 1 mid week next week, but something else will have to suffer to do so and its certainly not going to be a bag of smoke, im goin insane from lack of thc atm...i get real stress/anger issues once all the thc is out of my system =(
I am with you on the cheap. That is one of the reasons why I use only perlite. It is cheap by the big bags. I use old 2liter bottles too.

I wish I could share a good one with you !

"Too much misting MAY lead to..." yes, I agree with this... n I think choice of rooting medium plays a role too. I usually end up misting 3-4x a day tho-- of course, depending on what the clones r looking like-- maybe i got too many holes n my dome & water just keeps evaporating that fast...

just a quick update, i fell asleep and missed the noon spraying i had planned. its now 14:30 so nearly 15 hours since last spray and i saw the very first signs of drooping. sprayed them and they should be good. will work out when i will spray them next when i get back (time for the school run). =)

Hopefully they will take up water from the stem and won't need any more spraying !

ok went up and had a look and all seems well...so well in fact i havnt bothered to spray them, tho i did do them last night because one of my mini clones gained a droop, but spraying hasnt fixed it so im just going to ignore it for now, doesnt look ill.

Here is tthe growing tip clone from my afghan kush- this is the one i put to clone the day before learning this method, so i dug it up cut away all my hack n slash work and re cut it in the same style ie diagnol cut and single scrape style. but the LST explaines its warped stem ;)

so far so good..these are the healthies looking clones ive ever tried without a dome...christ if i can get a near 100% success rate on cloning kimmy, you can expect me to buy you a prezzie in the future...fancy a new car or something? lol

No present needed, lol. Just seeing success is good enough for me. Once you get this method down, you will have an army of clones in no time...

you have no idea...=D

as my grow progresses i have availible to me 3 rooms of about 21 m2 each which are over 2m tall, i also have a smaller room which can probably be dedicated to curing and i reckon i can squeeze in a seperate room for geting clones rooted.

if i used the 2l hempy style i reckon i could put out maybe 2000 plants per batch!

2L hempies are where it's at !! As soon as they reach 6" tall, they go to the flower room and finish around 20". One nice cola per plant and you can pack them in cheap...

quick update on kimmy's cloning method.

its nearly 5 am the next day and i did not spray my clones once at all yesterday/today. i did water them normally as they were a little dry. the one that had developed a droop didnt stand up properly when i did spray it the other day,,,but it did when i watered them...

I love you Kimmy =D

now i just need to wait a week or so to see if we get roots so i can DWC them.

I took a clone that was looking very poor and stuck it in a small vase of water ( clone gel 1st ) after a few days, It has started to root. Kinda pale and yellowish but I plan to stick it in soil today. Got a little new growth started and needs soil to get healthy. Funny that this worked but i'm not out of the woods yet. Still a little yellow from all the water. Yayyyy!

pale and yellow is good for a clone tbh, notrogen starvation causes it to want to root faster. i highly reccomend Kimmy's method for clones it works great.
the clone does learn to drink through the hole at the bottom and can stop misting, once your at that point its just a matter of time till it makes roots, probably when it starts to get hungry.

if these 5 clones all make roots and can go straight into DWC i will never use another method, its just so easy and fast and more importantly successful.

i mentioned before that rot was my main killer, leaving the dome off too long was my 2nd...this way needs no dome and the plants can breath like normal preventing rot too if your careful about not drowing them too much =D

Glad to hear they are doing well. I forgot to mention that if you run fans that you should not run them on the clones until they have rooted and been moved up to another container...
I just got finished transplanting some. 21 for 21. My luck is still holding out !

On my way to your journal to see what the new development is...
