ChronicHemphog's - DWC - Advanced LEDs - Time to Grow - Grow

ok I need to dig through my jars and see if I can find something worthy of entering in this months notm
I hope I got something worthy if not oh well ill wait lol

awesome healthy plants man. cant wait for those buds to swell up for you man.

let me ask you this. my grow area is 3ft tall. do you think I can fit an hid in there considering I have to hang the light down about 6" from the top (which is made of wood) and then the light itself is probably 6 inches tall. that leaves me with 2 feet from bulb to floor.

does this sound too sketchy? do you think the wood will catch fire? I just realized I can remove the insulation form the walls and be against concrete, but the top is a piece of plywood. it was built to "hide" the sump pump.

think itll work? the room is basically closed but its in the basement so it runs cooler than above ground? idk man

question is how long do the screws have to be? I don't wanna go through the other side of the plywood.. Im guessing plywood is too thin to mount to?

I don't know how I would mount it either. would zip ties and those O screws into the beams of plywood work? that will leave me with even less headroom if I use the 2x4 beams going across as the mount

cant tell exactly how thick ceiling is because of stupid piece of cheap ass molding over the edge

ok the roof is just under an inch thick lol. what do u think? sacrifice 4 more inches?

HID's run hotter than led's or flouro tubes
cfl's still run hot
2 feet is very tight for a hid theres a chart somewhere if I can find it shows amount of wattage and how close you can be
if you cool the light I don't think youd have issues with the wood catching fire
but also as you know I don't run hid's lemme look for the chart
what kind of wattage you plan on using? im assuming a 150 watt but I may be wrong
lemme see if I can find the chart

I hope this helps

oh yea how thick is the plywood?
3/4 inch will hold even 5/8 depending on how much screws you use to mount it as long as the screws aren't right next to each other
what I mean is you can spread the weight out if you have more mounting points
if mounting points are limited can you fit a 2x4 flat ways in there?
I mean above the ply as backing for the plywood giving it more support
ok if I missed anything get back to me and ill try my best to help
since im a carpenter I think I can help in that area as far as weights and how you can support it

im guessing 3/4 thick because the border is 1" thick and the when I feel the board behind the molding it doesn't feel half its thickness, it feels a bit more than half.

what kind of bracket are you talking about? could you show me a picture from the internet?

I wonder what I could yield from a 2 ft 4 bulb t5 system?

ok now im confused by what your showing me but
if that second pic is where you plan to hang the light u can use the 2x4 to mount it that will be solid enough
and if you have to you can frame in additional 2x4 in between to get the support where you need it
I see a nail sticking through the plywood bend that sucker before it sticks you in your head
and you wouldn't have to put it on edge like the framing already is you can put it flat and get it up a inch and a half higher and mount it to that lemme see if I got a few 2x4's laying around and a panel just to show you what I mean
if that is the underside where you want to mount the light

ok bear with me on this one its not exactly what you have but its an example of what I mean

DSC023471.JPG

so you have your framing or joists shall I say on edge under the plywood
pictured is what I mean by adding 2x4 flat in there you don't nail it to the plywood
you nail it throught the 2x4's that are on edge into the flat 2x4 using 16d common nails mount what you need to that should be more than enough support just make sure whatever you use to mount the light is long enough to hold good like if your using screws figure inch and a half for the 2x4 and at least 1/2 an inch more for the plywood so its biting as deep as possible
and as I said earlier if you can put more mounting points itll help spread the load it has to carry
would be easier to be able to show you but as im not there all I can do is explain as best as I can

Drive by. Hey Hog that GDP's is one bushy ass mofor. I tend to throw my youngens in my veg tent and they tend to get alittle leggy. But that one is 'tight'. Hey talking bout lights,,,,,,,,,,, I just got a Tester. Thing reads 700x100 18"s under a 600 watter. I did acouple fast reading at canopy height in my flower room. The 1000 watter is 450x100 lux and under the 1500 watter I have 650x100 at about the same height. Sorry but I'm going to show ya a picture of what I bought;

New to me I just wanted to get it to read what the new bulbs put out compared to what I'll have in 6 months time for the hell of it. I always change my bulbs once a year anyways. Of course I tend to get as cheap as possible in the way of bulbs. You go thru them fast anyways @ one per year per light. LED's are doing pretty good it seems, Keepem Green

cool new toy there Norcali
yea I love these leds gonna be a long time before I have to replace em
as long as there is no issues like something breaking
so if it lasts as long as it should should be worthwhile
again cool new toy you got man
