Cherries DubeLee In A S.I.P. - An LOS Grow

Frost rails, purple, and snow practically dripping off the sugar leaves...crazy good looking plant!

Do you figure the SIP thing putting a higher nutrient drain on the soil ?
What do you mean by putting a higher nutrient drain on the soil?

Hairy little girls aren't they!!
Mmmm my kind of girls!

Good question! It is the most vegged plant I've run at 80 days, but it has an extra 2 gallons of soil allegedly @ 12 or 12.5 maybe? I wonder how high in the pot roots are finding water to mine the soil for lunch? I'm pretty sure there's calcium in there. Pretty sure but I've been that before. I don't know.
I'll have to check, recollection says I've put in 2 ml cal/mag 6 or 8 times max. That doesn't seem like a lot however like I said, never before so something's up. I'm thinking of 2 ml every other day should do it for a try.

Like what Shed said, everything about this plant is bigger, stronger, fatter, greener, just every way more of a plant than my cloth pots would have grown. So more stress on nute/microbial grooviness my soil needs built in.

Probably a lot higher than a cloth pot with bark on top. I'm sure sealing the top is allowing more upper action in the top roots.
Hmmm. This one will be interesting to see at rootopsy. I mulch with an organic layer (chopped up, partially decomposed leaves) and get feeder roots to fully populate and consume that layer.

I do get two distinct layers of roots however, top and bottom connected by a fewer number of connector roots, but I'm interested in how the roots behave in Otter's setup with the black plastic that presumably doesn't breathe all that well.

Yeah that seal is what I'm counting on! I still haven't peeked!
Roots get right up to the bark in cloth Shed. Late in flower when I look under a good piece there's all kinds of life happening including tiny roots. Funny, I prefer to not look. Yucky bugs crawling everywhere in miniature, kazillions of them! My yucky friends!

That's going to be a fun rootopsy! I'm on the edge of my seat already! In future runs I'll consider topping with something or maybe mounding it. This soil is down a full inch from the rim now. I'm just being square headed about not opening it for this run unless necessary.
Even soak the bark before u use it to remove bs crap they might have in it. . Done that too. It works. Soak more than a day. I did 24 hrs seems fine after . But I also throw in firewood ash also. It might killed sht too.
Thanks Dust, good ideas! I have trees in the yard so I find a dead one and get some from it. Then it goes into a foil pan into the bbq grill for an hour to kill any nastys. That's been working good so far.

HALF WAY THROUGH FLOWER UPDATE

Hi all! It's 30 days from flip today! Time is flying! I'm seeing good growth. One thing I'm seeing that I normally don't in this soil in cloth or plastic pots is some calcium def. showing as spots on leaves.I've been giving no N cal/mag on an as need by eye basis, I'm seeing more now so I'll try making a schedule to keep up.
There's some top leaves going lighter green and getting purple veins. Remember Purple Vein by the Grower Formally Known as SO? :) Hoping for a fantastic colorful finish! There's some purple edges on the sugar leaves now too! She's frosting up a storm!

And lower bud.

She smells of sweetness and cherries! My imagination? Probably! Until I taste this one It'll be a sweet surprise! Bets wishes to all!

Is this a Rev seed? I know on the majority of his seeds he said they were extra calcium hungry, and recommended a steady feed. (I just give 70 ppms every water, up by 5-10 if I see any thing)

I assume in the SIP you’re getting more vegetative mass so you’ve probably got an increased requirement

Wow yes the father is chunky cherry thai. That may explain some Keffka! Yes more everything! 70 ppm's, nice I'll see what that is, thanks!

Looking sweet Otter! Nice and frosty already too; can't wait to see the finished product. ☃️☃️☃️

Looking beautiful over there 👍👍 stone..

Highya SO,

Gorgeous looking lady! SIP is doing it's thing! There'll probably be a few more converts to SIP after seeing how they grow! I know, I'm one! Are those scrunched leaves a sign of too much light? What do the purple veins mean? My brain is getting overloaded with too much stuff to remember. Must be getting too old! Looking good in there, SO! Happy Smokin'

You're/we're getting nice and mature Bode! Yes, that's them curling from high light intensity. It's a compromise to get light to the lower buds nice and hard. I let it happen but if they burn or bleach I lower intensity. 🛶ing. It's about 75% of the light capacity and giving it 1000+ PPFD of PAR.

The purple veins seem to be a color theme coming on. Top leaf edges are purpling up, now the veins, tomorrow the rest of the leaf I'm thinking. I lowered the temp of the soil I had at 75F down to 69/70 the other day. Soon another 5 degrees down. I'm expecting some color but not too much from the temp swing. The mother was mostly green with purple highlights on top.

If I remember correctly, higher intensity further away provides better penetration than lower intensity closer in. Might have been Graytail who taught me that.
Really! I'm headed down to raise the light then! And crank it! To about the same PPFD :) only further away. Interesting, thanks! Thanks to @Graytail too! I do have a pretty good canoeing going.

Here's one on the subject:
in the process of doing a little research, I discovered that there's something counter intuitive about it. You get deeper penetration when the lights are father away. The sun is way far away and there's zilch difference in PAR from the top to the bottom of the plant - 100% penetration.
