Chef De Green Does It All: Reveg, Clones, Autos & Photos

heres what’s going on. First of all, I pulled a dumb idiot move. I think I remember reading the fogponic guy put low strength nutes in the rez. So I did the same thing... came home to my clone all burnt up. I also took a clone from Gasfruit.
Nope, that didn't work, but I have an alternate possible cause... lack of humidity up top. In my bubble cloner I put a couple of holes in the lid so that just a few random bubbles can escape, providing high humidity to the cuttings above. Maybe you need to let out a little bit of the fog, or cover the apparatus with a lid?
Regarding nutes, I have read that if you want a rapid explosion of roots... put ONE DROP of calmag into the rez. Since there are no roots yet, there is no place for additional nutes to go and it just makes the mix go acidic.

ive actually been putting clear solo cups over the cuttings just to block wind and slow transpiration.. but there’s no moisture build up as the solo cups have a small space for fresh air to enter where they’re touching the cloner. I figure ideal VPD for my plants and seedlings will be too harsh on the clones, not that they necessarily need more humidity.. If I come home tonight and the gasfruit cutting looks sad and dried up I’ll figure out a way to actually get some humidity to stay around the foliage of the cuttings.

How about the clear plastic top off one of those big aluminum foil turkey roasting pans? Could be an inexpensive solution.

ill definitely keep that in mind if it’s looking like a humidity dome is truly necessary.. there’s a small hole where a rez buoy is supposed to go, so if I put on a humidity dome the fog coming up from the hole will make the dome nice and humid

Just a tip on the cloner. Be careful of excessive heat. The piziotransducer (disk) generates heat.
I use to run nothing but HPA (high pressure aeroponics) and got it in my head to incorporate a 9 disk fogger in a separate resivore that I would then inject atomized nutrient Fogg into my main rails via an air pump. The fogger resivore would easily hit temps of 90+ degrees. And ultimately increased my temps in the rails, so I scrapped it. Now I just use it for humidifcation of my 20gallon monotubs, it really helps to get a great pin set. Mushrooms, that is.

Sorry, not trying to hijack, just thought I'd put up a reference pic.

Thank you very much for your insight, clearly you’re way more versed in hydroponics than I. I will monitor the Rez temp, but I don’t think I will have problems. It’s a one disk atomizer and I have it on an interval timer running 2 mins on/6mins off. But I will most certainly be vigilant regarding water temps

What about drilling super tiny holes around the neoprene collar of each clone. The air pressure inside the cloner resivore would push upward a trickel stream of fog at the stoma of the leaves.

If you have nutrients in the water check your disk heads daily and clean with a q-tip. The disks tend to accumulate chemical residue from your nutrient. Of course this is also dependent on the strength of nutrient. If your running very low ppm I would check them once a week or clean after each clone run.

@GreenGenez thank you so much for all the helpful info!

I only ran nutes one time and immediately went Back to plain tap water.

I think I’m going to stick with no dome for now. If both of these clones fail/take a long time to root, then I’ll start thinking about humidity covers. For now, the clones are kept alive with just the fog below.. I figure, if they’re alive but stressed, maybe they’ll root faster?

I use thrive alive b1 red only for cloning. Works great for rooting.

thanks for the suggestion! I checked it out a little closer and it seems intriguing. We’ll see what kind of turn around time I can really get on my clones with tap water only. From there I’ll decide whether I think it’s necessary for me.

this reminds me of a product called super thrive. Is it like that?

Yes I think it is similar to that. It’s basically sea kelp. I just follow the directions from the technaflora recipe for success for cloning. It was the only part of their system I liked. I have very good clone success rates and that’s just from jamming them in pro mix hp with thrive alive b1 red.

That’s how I’ve done it in the past as well! I just hate taking care of a cutting that turns out to be a dud. I feel like I’ll be able to have a better picture of which methods I’m trying are proving useful by being able to monitor the root development daily.. by method I mean things like cutting on an angel, scraping the stem, splitting the stem... that kind of stuff.

Update November 12, 2019

First things first, the DDas I planted didnt take at all.. I’m not going to try to pop another one until the perlite comes in for a hempy solo cup.. I’m pretty sad about that.

Secondly, the star pupil reveg is going well. She’s putting out these really odd little growth balls.

little curly lime green balls Of growth.. really weird. she’s also got plenty of growth tips coming up, so that’s great news. It will still be a few weeks to a month before she looks more like a normal vegging plant though.

Here’s the seedlings, coming along great.

From left to right they are God’s Gift, QPxTDa, and Northern Lights. The solo cup above has a Chem Angel seed I just planted today.

The clones look the same still. Not dying, but not growing roots yet either. I think I can see tiny little white bumps forming on the stem of the first clone though. Maybe by next week it will have roots.

All the talk about a dome for my cloner had me thinkin. So I went to the store looking for either a turkey pan clear plastic lid, or even a Tupperware that’s the right size. No such luck. I need something in the 9-10”x6-7” range and I couldn’t find anything like that... I guess my cloner is just an awkward size!

Also the talk of humidity made me realize my humidity is really low in general for veg. So I put a towel in a bowl of water hanging off my box fan. The humidity has gone from high 20s to mid 50s. So that’s a huge improvement.

This is something I want to add to my journal.

Piña colada gummies
  • 1 quart container of fresh frozen trim, decarboxylated
  • 16oz of everclear
  • 1/2c virgin coconut oil
  • 1/2c cold water
  • 1 ea 3oz packet pineapple jello
  • 1 ea 1oz box of Knox gelatin (4 envelopes)
  • 1 tsp liquid sunflower lecithin
  • coconut oil cooking spray
Add the everclear to the trim and shake for 3 minutes, strain through coffee filter and cook off everclear in a hot water bath until the total volume is ~2Tbsp.
Add the lecithin and coconut oil, whisks to combine.
Put the cold water in a mixing bowl and add the jello packet. Then add the Knox gelatin packets one by one until everything is incorporated.
Add the coconut oil and put the mixing bowl on a double boiler. Once the mixture reaches 140F, you’re ready to fill your molds.
Spray lightly with cooking spray and fill your molds. Makes about 150 1/2tsp size gummies and they’re nicely potent.

I’m currently working on the next recipe. I want to be able to have some idea of my potency markers as well, so I’m weighing my material, before and after drying/decarboxylation. These next ones will be coconut and lime. I’m going to be lowering the water content and replacing it with a combination of sugar and corn syrup.

This recipe will be something along the lines of;
1 3oz jello packet
2 Envelopes of knox gelatin (14g)
100g sugar
100g corn syrup
1/4c coconut oil infused with tincture
1tsp liquid sunflower lecithin
1/3c cold water
180g defoliation material, mid flower fresh frozen
85g sugar trim, fresh frozen

Firsthand you dont need a dome. Just mist clones with a spray bottle 2x's a day for probably 4 days at most. They'll harden off!!!

Dont worry about veg Rh, the plant will acclimate to it available environmental parameters. If you notice a reduction of growth above soil, don't trip!!!! The roots are restructuring themselves for a more arid environment, top growth will resume, exponentially!!!

Dont waste your time with hempy, been there_ done that. Imo, too wasteful on ferts and h20. Very pH sensitive. Lots of Intervention measures making corrections

@GreenGenez
I’m not too worried about the rH, but if I increase it, they’ll definitely grow faster and be more healthy.

I plan to use the hempy for germination. It seems like the right method for me
