CFL Light Tutorial

Hey Myzz, if you go to the grow section under FAQ you can start your own thread and ask anything you want. And get plenty of feedback. As Roseman stated,This is a CFL tutorial and people would like it to be kept mostly on that topic. :peace:

Sorry guys, i did abuse this thread a bit. Thanks for the help though glad i finally know what cfl lights to get. :grinjoint:

Roseman - again another Awesome tutorial. Thankyou so much! +reps for you
(forum won't let me give you another +rep yet)
And thankyou to everyone else for their contributions!

Roseman - could you pm me where you got the large parabolic reflectors please.
I want to go with 2 - 42w in each.
Thanks in advance.

I understand the need for Dual Spectrum with the lights, but I still have a couple of questions. I have 6sf so @ 7000L per sf I need 42000L. What is the BEST ratio of 6500K and 2700K lights for both veg and flower? Is 50/50 the way to go, or for example 3/4 6500K and 1/4 2700 for veg and 3/4 2700K and 1/4 6500K for flower? And if I understand everything I've read so far, not all 42000L need to be above the plants. I can start with less Lumens as they veg then add more bulding up to 42000L as I start the flower to the sides. Or is it BEST to have the full 42000L from start to finish no matter where the lights are located?

50-50 is what the books say, but I use 60-40% or even 25- 75%. In VEG I used many more 6500s than 2700s. In Flowering I used many more 2700s than 6500s.

Your 7000 lumens per sq ft is very very ample. Less will work OK.

I guess I need to read up on wiring light sockets. My local Menards, Lowes and Walmart are only carrying 23W in both 2700K and 6500K. I'll have to do a chandelier with 24 bulbs on it. Let's see - 24 x 1600L = 38400L. 6sf @ 6000-7000 per sf = 36000-42000L. Looks like that will be OK. I guess I could supplement the chandelier with more 2700K at the flower stage and direct them to specific bud areas.

Two dozen 23W CFL's in a 6ft^2 area? That's going to generate some serious heat, even more if you add reflectors, better have your ventilation down.

As for wiring light sockets you'll want to wire them in parallel that way if one goes out the rest will still have power. To do this you just connect like wires...with DC this is + to + and - to -, with AC you just need to pick a wire color and keep them all connected together. Black to black and white to white...or if you use lamp cord it is usually one color but one wire often has multiple ridges on it to differentiate it from the other. I think that was previously mentioned somewhere in first ten pages lol.

Parallel...just remember "same" like parallel lines go the same direction and you'll be fine, you might want to double or triple check and do it sober if you've never wired them up before. You do not want an electrical fire...

I was just reading Setting Suns comp grow...

No matter what you do.....or how you do it...you will find success. Because you are looking and thinking and questioning....and this is how many many many people make the magic. Look at the pictures.....and stay on top of what is new....
Failure is not failure.....it is tuition ones pays for knowledge...

Remember......Hershey was a complete failure his whole life.....until he learned (at the time well past middle age) the craft of making caramel candies.....He then applied this knowledge.....purchased choco machinery from the Germans at the Chicago World's Fair.....and was finally able to made milk chocolate....something only the swiss could do at the time.

good luck brother.....
