Carnival: A Community Grow Experience

I have to say the refrigerator dry is saving my harvest this summer. Its too humid in my place to do it normal like. Takes a bit longer, but the flavor of the finished product is amazing. I dry in aluminum cake pans on the top shelf and finish in jars on the bottom with 58 Bovedas. If its too dry in the jar I just pull it out open it up for a few seconds to let some moisture condense inside and screw it back down. Once you find the sweet spot they tend to stay pretty stable.

:peacetwo:

I'm glad to hear this mouser. :hugs: Practice brings confidence. I'm looking forward to my next harvest to fine tune the process.

Getting close. She's starting to eat the fans. :slide: 125 days in, and 73 days since flip.

These are some of the thickest Carnival buds I've grown so far.

Trichomes are still overwhelmingly clear. I'm figuring another week, but the flush to cloudy could happen overnight. That's my cue to harvest the next day. I'll be gathering supplies in anticipation.

She is looking close but I sure wouldn't rush it. Those fresh pistils are still growing thick buds - they will probably turn color/shrink back into the calyx about the same time the trichomes change.

That's what I've been waiting for Rad, a reduction or halt to new pistils. Sometimes that change to amber trichomes doesn't happen in HB soils, or happens waaaay later than you were expecting. :laughtwo: I like mine mostly cloudy with a sprinkling of clear. To be honest, I've never had the patience to wait it out. I'll do my best this time to temper the impatience. :battingeyelashes:

It's not like you are running out is it?

Unfortunately, I am crazy low on Carnival. It turned out to be the favorite of the BIL, who easily goes through a quarter a week, supplementing his capsule regimen. Fortunately, we have other choices on hand to tide us over. I'll be drying a small portion faster for his consumption, but the majority of this harvest is destined to go the distance, using tricam's directions.

A treat to start the day. One of the two remaining colas from my mid-December harvest.

You're welcome. :cheesygrinsmiley:

I ended up getting lost in my DDA last night and forgot to post these. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Carnival 4.1 is on the left, standing next to her cousin, Devil's Carnival. She's at day 42, and the only hempy that I'm feeding with the Grow Better nutes. I'm so impressed with them that I'll be shifting to this with all of the future hempies. I better get some price info on this line so I can plan for the next order.

Some of the most beautiful leaves I've grown. This is by far the healthiest Carnival I've gotten to this stage, and she has me really excited about her eventual clone, which I'll be raising with Doc'c kit.

IMG_85115.JPG

This one caught a spot of sunshine, so you can see the luscious coloration.

Her leaves are getting huge!

A bit of contrasting leaf porn. :battingeyelashes:

My favorite specimen growing at this moment. She's getting the benefit of fabulous lighting and Grow Better nutrients. Lucky girl. Lucky me. :slide:

Carnival 3 (Day 127, flip + 75)

IMG_8517.JPG

She's starting to flush, so any day now she'll come down. The other day I was messing with her and broke off the smallest popcorn bud by mistake, so I set it up next to a heat sink and forgot about it. This morning it was my starter wake 'n bake. Three tiny hits, the first of which lifted me off the floor :laughtwo: and a final small hit of the attached leaf matter and my head is spinning. :thedoubletake:

She may not be pretty, but indicators are she's the strongest hitter so far. She's expressing terpenes that are shocking in intensity. Wish I'd broken off more. Lol! She'll be dried low and slow, and a portion of her will get the full cure of 3 months.

I wish I could get a stable clone going, but her clone looks just as challenged as she was.

IMG_85182.JPG

Maybe down here underneath there's a viable candidate. This one started out looking good too, so it's a risk.

IMG_85196.JPG

I'll start another clone when this girl gets flipped anyway, because Carn 3 won't be dry enough to get a real feel by then. It's my understanding that this virus can't be removed once it gets established and that the only resort I'd to discontinue the line. I wasn't anticipating her flowers to be this delicious and potent.

Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated.

Sweetsue, your carnival 4.1 looks like she could become a beast. If she grows like mine, 20" tall could be 50" tall after the stretch.

Carnival 3 obviously didn't stretch like that - now what is this about a virus? This is the first I heard you mention it.

"Tobacco mosaic virus(TMV) is a positive-sense single stranded RNA virus that infects a wide range of plants, especially tobacco and other members of the family Solanaceae. The infection causes characteristic patterns, such as "mosaic"-like mottling and discoloration on the leaves (hence the name)."

The best evidence of the infection is really her clone.

I checked the most her and she flushed cloudy overnight, so tomorrow's harvest day. You tell me this girl doesn't look done. :cheesygrinsmiley:

I hope my Carn 4.1 turns out to be as lucious as one of yours Rad. :slide:

I'm looking forward to sampling my first Carnival. Probably early august.

Gonna try drying low and slo Rad? I believe you'd previously determined the fridge was too moist. Maybe you've changed your mind? The low and slo Carnival was by far my best. My mouth is already watering thinking of it. I harvest tomorrow, two weeks min in the fridge and another month or so to cure it properly, mine won't be done until late August, early September.

Our fridge is too busy and full for drying cannabis.

Our refrigerator houses food for four adults, two of them under 21. We eat mostly home cooked meals and large amounts of leftovers. At one point last week we had five 1-gallon containers, four other storage containers, and 3 covered plates full of leftovers. Except for a pair of rib-eye steaks with a garlic spread topping, they have all been eaten. :) (Although we have to toss one cup out of the 3 liters of Alfredo sauce that 'went bad' while hidden behind everything else, )

The two big drawers and top shelf are full of beer, pre-mixed cocktails, wine spritzers, wine coolers, radlers, white wine, and occaisonally fruit juice and hummingbird food. Adding a gallon jug of milk would require major reshuffling

There is way too much in and out and movement between drawers for dring and curing cannabis - When I tried to dry a pint in a quart jar, it moved four times in one week. :)

We may get a second refrigerator some day, especially if a nice freezer on the bottom one comes up at auction :)

I'll go for fresh harvest oil before low and slow drying :)

Yeah, that was what I figured. You'll love the FHO when you finally try it. It may change how you consume cannabis. Which reminds me, time for my morning capsule, now that I have the harvest out of the way.

Harvest: Carnival 3 (Day 129, flip + 77)

She surprised me with how dense and weighty she was. I'll get something close to 2 ounces out of her. That makes me very happy. I need to take at least one of these down every month. At least one.

My Carnival is at 8.5 weeks, just starting to get leaf yellow but still showing white, strong, young looking pistils. She will not be finished in 9 weeks.

I have seen 9 weeks, 9.5 weeks and 10.5 weeks listed in this thread

Question #1 - How many days/weeks until harvest? Do pistils turn 2-3 weeks before harvest like other strains?

Question #2 - For those growing with Hi-Brix, do I have enought time to do a second round of Cat drenches? Would you recommend it?

The last Carnival harvest I had went 11 weeks. I also have them a late CAT. I was rewarded with almost a pound of some awesome smoke. Can't go by Amber tricomes either. Sometimes they never change from cloudy.

Thanks TheRedDragon. I think I'll plan on a CAT drench next watering.

She won't be a lb, but she will be my largest harvest so far this year :)

Most of mine were done around 70-75 days Rad, and yes, pistils, begin to change about three weeks out from harvest.

I got carried away. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Carnival 4.1 (Day 52) She's in a hempy pot being fed Grow Better nutrients. I'll just be quiet and let you enjoy. :hugs:
