Carcass' $150 Low Budget Grow 2019

I want to wish you a Happy Easter
:thanks:
Oh and if you don’t celebrate Easter ignore the above message and just have the best Sunday ever.
I do celebrate Easter, but this year I plan on just doing nothing- We had the 5 year old granddaughters birthday party all day yesterday, with a bounce house and all the other birthday stuff, so I'm going to just goof off today, and enjoy not having to chase kids around...
I bought a quart last year and am only halfway through it lol
I've got 3.5 gallons of Terpinator, and I've used 5ml. so far...so for me it's probably a lifetime supply...;)

It's Monday again, so it's Update time!

Both plants (Kalashnikov auto and Iced Grapefruit photoperiod) are doing well- so well,in fact
that I had to move the Kalashnikov outside yesterday because it got too crowded in the box.

Here's a Saugaview® of the I.G.- her runty beginnings seem to be a thing of the past (except for one branch)...She's 34 days old now
1.jpg

She's still in the "looks like a cabbage" stage...It's hard to tell from the pic, but she's got only 3 main branches, so I guess that makes her a tri-line...There was 4 mains, but one of them still thinks she's a runt, so it's not growing enough to keep up with the others...
2.jpg

It's also time for her second feeding of GeoFlora veg nutes- she really enjoyed the first dose, even though it was 24g too much...so the second dose is the correct amount for a 3 gallon pot...
3.jpg

In case anyone's wondering what all those sticks are doing in there...those are what I'm using to tie down the branches for the quadline training (actually tri-line on this one) the hook is adjustable, so as the plant gets stronger, you can stab it deeper into the soil- all the way to the bottom of the pot if need be, so the plant doesn't pull them out.

And a pic of the Hydra-1000 that's growing this one from here on in- it's at 70 watts right now, and doing a great job...Thanks, @Atreum Lighting !
4b.jpg

Now for a look at the Kalashnikov auto, which is going to finish up outside- she's 41 days old, and she got her second dose of GeoFlora nutes (Bloom) last Tuesday, so she's got a week to go before the next dose...
She's 10 inches tall so far-She may not get much taller, but time will tell...
Another nice thing about the Hydra-1000- you can move the plants out into direct sunlight without having to slowly acclimate them to the sun...

Ever vigilant, Pretzel the wonder cat guards his favorite plant... :)
We're finally getting some sunny weather- not very warm, but at least it's sunny...

One of her little buds:

And that's about all I've got today.:peace:

Thanks for looking, I appreciate the support!
I hope everyone has a great week, and please, stay safe!

Both those plants are looking great Carcass, and no one would believe that was a runt a little while ago! Also, great idea with the measured feeding cup for the GeoFlora. :thumb:
it's not growing enough to keep up with the others...
Cut that sucker off. Make it a legit tri so it won't be tri-ing to put energy into the stump!
It's also time for her second feeding of GeoFlora veg nutes
Oh, I mentioned the measuring cup already. Still, great idea!
those are what I'm using to tie down the branches for the quadline training
Aside from looking like a medieval weapon of war, another great idea. :)

Looking really nice Carcass! :yummy: I like the hook sticks for training, it's always good to see what other folks have used to help with training, I have drilled holes all around the rim of my pot as attachment points to tie the training lines to, but I find that once the plant gets big whatever I use can be tricky to get your hands in to access and adjust.

Thanks, Shed!
Also, great idea with the measured feeding cup for the GeoFlora.
That came about when Mrs.C. asked where in the hell her measuring cup was...

I'm just training it as a "secondary" branch- it's keeping up with the little branches, just not the big ones..

Yeah, those hooks are only good to the edge of the pot, after that I bust out the suction cups...:)
The IG will be ready for them tomorrow..

Hello Carcass :)

Your plants look beautiful as always. I must take some pics of my hooks, you will shake your head in horror!

I notice you have some really extra long sticks. What’s with those?

I applied this training to my monstercropped clone but I think I pushed her down too low. She looks like a ground over lol.

Gees @Trala , that pic you highlighted about the long sticks, just below that pic Carcass then showed a pic of one of the sticks and explained what they were. You must have topped up with a cone or two at that point and lost your place.

Oh sorry my mistake.

Thought that was the smaller ones. I thought the larger ones were double the size of the smaller ones.

Looking super fine, @Carcass.

I love how the runt un-runted. It didn't take her long!

How did you get to 44g of GF for a 3 gallon pot?

How did you get to 44g of GF for a 3 gallon pot?
Oh no. Are we going to start this again. “what is the correct dosage of GF nutrients“? This subject scares me and has really messed with me, my math and my reading of the directions.:nervous-guy:

Very simple explanation for that,Trala- I'm training 2 plants right now, and I used all the short ones on the Kalashnikov auto.. and actually, I find the long ones are easier to use, they don't pull out of the soil, and they don't get "lost" under all the foliage, so I'm going to use mostly the long ones from now on:)
She looks like a ground cover lol.
Remember- they'll look worse before they look better...it should grow out of the ground cover thing when
it starts to stretch- that's the one you just flipped on Sunday, right?
You must have topped up with a cone or two at that point and lost your place.
It's easy to get confused, because I use short hooks too- as soon as I can get to the dollar store, I'm
going to get some more skewers, and just use the long ones from now on, because the plant will pull the short ones out of the soil, but the longer ones can go deep enough that the plant can't pull them out.
I thought the larger ones were double the size of the smaller ones.
You're right, they are apx twice as long, but I'm retiring most of the short ones from here on in..
It’s amazing how time has gone by so quickly and plants have gotten so green and luscious.
Right? That little auto did all of it's growing in the last ten days or so, and the IG also grew an inch since yesterday, and it's not even stretching yet....

How did you get to 44g of GF for a 3 gallon pot?
44g is 1/3 of a cup (kitchen measuring cup)- Tbh, I'm not sure how I got it so wrong the first time (68g), but at least I didn't do any damage to the plants- GeoFlora is , thankfully, very forgiving stuff...

This subject scares me and has really messed with me, my math and my reading of the directions.:nervous-guy:
The instructions on the GF site also had me confused because of the statement that "All measurements are in cups", and 2.5 oz. in a measuring cup is NOT 2.5 oz(70g) of GF- it's a smidge over 1.5 oz....(44g)
If you just use a regular measuring cup, instead of a scale, you can't go wrong like I did...

LMAO, @Nev. I was actually reluctant to ask the question for the same reason!

I've got my slide rule out.

I thought there was going to be this interesting LST explanation and new learning opportunity for me.

I'm literally Stage 4 cringing. I feel like such a goose! Lolling!

Hey, it was a valid question, with a simple answer- the next plant you train, try using the long skewers- they're easier to use, and they won't pull out of the soil like the short ones- they look kind of funny sticking up like that, but the plants don't mind a bit... ;)

Because they're so tall, does this mean you water your plants in the tent rather than bringing them out? And, if that's what you do, what do you use?

I'm also interested in hearing how people get rid of run-off. I use a large pot tray and put each pot on it when watering and then put the pot back on its own pot, which has a little pot riser and pour the run-off into a pail that I dump outside afterwards.

Hi,HashGirl !
Actually, they're only 8 or 9 inches tall, so they fit out through the door just fine, so I pull them out to water them.
I saw @NuttyProfessor mention using a kids super soaker to suck up the waste water -a turkey baster also works, but they don't hold much- the super soaker sounds like a great idea!

My budget has me keeping the run off to a bare minimum by going ridiculously slow the mopping up with a towel while running the carbon filter exhaust at 100% and leaving the door of the tent partially open to keep the humidity down. I’m definitely open for suggestions here.

What a wonderful green color that plant has been, you got this down to a science already. Staying low and bushy.
Love the guard kitty, we had one that was like that with my outdoor plants, always over there whenever I was.

Hey trala, I know there's tons of LST tutorials on here if you were actually looking for some info/help.
I also did a small how-to in my current journal I'll link below, it's just how I do it and what works for me, but I really like the skewer and hook idea.

I use a shop (wet) vac to suck up my run off out of the saucers.

Beauty plants indeed, Carcass!
