Carcass' $150 Low Budget Grow 2019

anything below zero would probably kill me
With trepidation I am waiting for the -30C so I can try my hand at "Winter Hash" - having said that - I only want one day of that, if I'm done shakin' my weed!!! (That may have come out wrong)

I'll probably just buy something like an Earthbox -- not that I'm incapable to DIY,
I probably would of bought something like that, but I didn't find one that wasn't at least 5 gallons, and they were also all too tall - by using the mop buckets, I only had to give up 2.25" of height in the box, and I gained .75 gallons of soil capacity- not much, but every little bit helps..
Also, it was only $18.00 for both buckets, so it came out a little cheaper than buying a ready-made one.

You've proven your diy skills, so I know you could put one together no problem...but just because you can
do something, doesn't mean you have to do it every time ...as @Grand Daddy Black would say- my lazy meter was beeping the whole time I was making that sip...😁

So you go out in that weather to make hash? I'm getting cold just thinking about it...🥶
Ain't that the truth!

My plan is to have everything ready to go in the greenhouse so no time is wasted!!!! My poor old bones really notice the temperature drops now!!!! And if I start "the shakes" I hope I'm holding onto a box of weed!!!

Good points for consideration... :thanks:

I'd be shivering so hard I could thread a sewing machine- while it's running...😬
Good points for consideration...
And the mop buckets were even the right color to keep light outa the reservoir...
I’m wishing you the minimal growth at the maximum rate for your corrugated housing project.
Thanks, Nev!
It took her about 6 days to adjust to the SIP, but she's off and running now!

Times a ticking!
And here we are again!
Time for a little Monday Update on the goings-on around here...

The 32 day old ATF was put into the sip 10 days ago...didn't do much except droop for the first 6 days, but on Thursday she woke up and started doing some real growing...

Here she is last Monday:
ATF-1 last week.jpg

And this morning...her training started on Saturday
ATF-2.jpg

She's pretty healthy- I think the Grow Dots kicked in about the same time she decided she likes it in the sip...😀
ATF-3.jpg

I must've topped her just a bit high above node 4, so there's an extra branch (maybe 2) growing where the stump should be...All of my fims have been accidental, and this one is no exception...🤔
So now she's got 7 main branches to train, instead of the usual 6......
ATF-4.jpg

She got a half-gallon (rainwater) added to the res this morning. I mixed in about a quarter tsp. of aloe vera powder, but other than that, just water. She seems pretty happy with that..

ATF-11.jpg

And, I replaced the cork float with a little glass Christmas ornament- it floats better than the cork I started with, which would show "empty" when the res was still half full..
I just hot-glued it to the skewer..

ATF-6.jpg

And now a little about the Amnesia Haze auto (left, also from the Va. seed fairy:love:)
She needed water ,so she was a little droopy at pic time...she actually drinks about 1/4 cup per day now.
The Grow Dots in the solo cup are keeping her real happy so far..
AHa-ATF-10.jpg

Pretty tight node spacing on the AHa- 4 nodes per inch right now...she's 3" tall / 15 days old...she'll get topped above node 4 as soon as node 5 gets big enough to cut off...

AHa-8.jpg

She's also been watered almost exclusively through 2 wicks (kite string)..so, when she gets uppotted, she'll probably go into a pot with an air chamber (like @ Stunger's beautiful plants) to continue with the bottom watering thing, and hopefully get some good growth out of her...or not- she's an auto, so who the hell knows...
And, unfortunately, any growing she does will happen outside- there won't be room in the box..

Question: are those fat, fuzzy roots the "water roots"? they're actually skinny roots, but all the tiny root hairs make them look fat....
Whatever kind they are, there's a lot of them- I'll have to cut the bottom off the cup to get her out without ripping the roots off.
AHa-9.jpg

And that's where I'm at today!
Thanks for looking, I really appreciate your support...

I hope everyone has a nice week, and I'll see you next time...:peace:

Plant's look happy and healthy Carcass!

A SIP and an "air-chamber", such new-fangled gear! You're in no danger of becoming an old-school relic!

And then there is....the box.

Looking forward!

Nice growth in short order! Everything is working in double time in there so you need to as well. 🏃‍♂️
there's an extra branch (maybe 2) growing where the stump should be
Bonus growth...order more dowels now!

Theory?

Looks great, and those roots: they want to break free! 🎶
or not- she's an auto, so who the hell knows.

It’s like that ATF found out this is a timed event and started the sprint filling out all nice. That bonus branch no doubt helps too. Any thing I ever FIMed was an accident too.:laughtwo:

I’d say so. That’s great tight spacing I don’t think you’ll need to FIM her.

I'll have to cut the bottom off the cup to get her out without ripping the roots off.
Yikes those are starting to get scary long for an auto I’m glad it’s you and not me doing the upcan.;)

I hope everyone has a nice week
I hope you do too.:passitleft:

Thanks, Shed!
Yeah, this one's going to keep me on my toes...I've got to say- I'm really liking the sip so far...
When you do your sip...(😋)..keep in mind- they get pretty heavy with apx. twice the water weight of a regular pot...
Bonus growth...order more dowels now!
Got a spare pack on the shelf!
@BakedARea was/is a big proponent of Aloe Vera as a root stimulant and wetting agent, so I figured it couldn't hurt... there's other benefits, too-

From the web:
As a nutrient, aloe vera contains over 75 active constituents, including amino acids, enzymes, lignins, polysaccharides, minerals, vitamins (A, C, E, and B2, 3, 5, 6, & 12) along with choline, calcium, magnesium, zinc & more. These things combined make aloe a natural, mild but potent “fertilizer” for plants

Yikes those are starting to get scary long for an auto
The plan was to leave her in that cup for another couple of weeks, but I think I'm going to have to speed that up a bit.
I guess I should get her pot put together sooner rather than later...
.
You have a great week too, Nev !:thumb:

It will! We might even both be good at this before we're done:high-five:
Yes! :high-five:
The plants are looking so good as they usually do in your garden. Looking forward to seeing them perform in the SIP. $18 for two bucket and using colanders sounds a good saving.... I like savings a lot

I was worried about the water getting funky with organic matter sitting in the res.
That's a good point, Shed-I didn't think about that- I'll have to pull it apart and take a look at the res in a few weeks- that's one reason I chose that kind of SIP, so I'd have access to the res in case there was a problem...and I may have just created one...
Makes me want to rhyme!

Roses are red
Your grow is so green
I’m trying real hard
Not to say something obscene….
But you probably will, 'cause that's what you do,
And nobody does it better than you...💚

Me too, T!

Where do you get your aloe powder (pic of the container please)?
Thanks so much, Boo!
Heres some pics of the powder, and the liquid (which I haven't used yet)

10ml./gal. is the dosage for the juice ^^
1g./gal is the dosage for the powder..
Neither one mentions using it for plants, but I've used it on my last 3 plants- don't know if it helped anything, but it didn't hurt anything either...

I like savings a lot
Ha! I'm all about cheap- that's one reason I grow in an $18.00 box instead of a hundred dollar tent...💰
The pot for the AHa will cost a whopping $3.00(plus tax) at the dollar store (3 gallon bucket, collander and super soaker (for the tubing)
If those buckets were a gallon bigger, the ATF would be growing in one too...
Yeah, I'm real cheap...😁

:rofl::laugh:
