Some of the plants I grow, the pure sativas will drop a ton of leaves around stretch no matter how much nitrogen they get, or other nutes for that matter. Even with crazy fertile soil, it will happen. The buds are not affected from what I can tell. There is also always a lot of leaves left. I think of it as the plant making more space to get more light onto the buds.
The only time it doesn't happen is in winter outdoors. I am pretty convinced that they do this as they know there is an abundance of sunlight here in Africa and they don't have to work hard to photosynthesize as they are in full sun from sunrise until about an hour before sunset.
