Cape Mountainside Bay Garden: Transkei Sativa Soil Grow

Greetings all.

The good news is that the leaf miners are gone. I took the leaves off and I added neem to the usual pesticides. My go to shop guy Jamie said not to spray more than once a week going forward because of the neem. The affected plants have recovered nicely. I gave them all another pruning yesterday and training will begin with my little DWD.

I'm still feeding them the teas I made, Seagrow and Envirofarm's Epic 5:2 Biostimulant. The Seagrow and SST goes with everything and occasionally I throw in the banana tea and the bacteria juice. I have given them the biostimulant twice. I am not sure how often it is done as that instruction is not on the tin. I need to contact them and find out.

Despite the insect damage, the wind damage and the near suffocation by the garlic and oil, I am happy with their growth. I am just concerned about some yellowing on the leaves of the one plant. I'm not checking ph because I don't have the equipment, unless there is an old fashioned method that doesn't require a fancy measuring device that I don't know about perhaps?

In order of appearance:
DWD
Polly (initial damage by wind, then near suffocation by garlic spray, then leaf miners)
Wedding Cake (new gift)
LC-18 x TK (sun damage from accidental over exposure too soon)
Molly (initially fimmed to next to nothing by a locust had bounced back but there may be some yellowing of some leaves?)
Mystery Purple (damage by garlic spray and leaf miners and then snapped stem) starting to go purple in the stems.

Morning Carmen, not sure the life cycle of leaf miners, but for some pests, you need to be treating the soil as well to get rid of them all. Have you been putting BT in your water as well?
Hi Celt, sorry to respond so late. I was initially putting it in my water to treat the soil, then I stopped and did foliar spray only. If they come back I will drench the soil as you advise. Thanks!

Thanks BLS, for some reason I did not see any notifications for several responses on here, including yours. Will read your link now.

Regarding the Xterminator, pyrethrins aren't recommended for cannabis if you're going to be smoking it.

Thanks you so much! I didn't see this until now but I added neem to the usual and it seems to be working.

Another week has gone by. How time flies. I am now incorporating the Epic 5:2 as a weekly soil drench. I am still using the combo of BT / BB and Neem as a weekly foliar spray and partial drench, and this appears to be successful as I am not having a problem with pests, other than leaf miners on the one plant, which will be up-potted soon and may relieve some stress. Here are the plants in varying stages of growth and training. The biggest, bushiest plant is the one that was almost completely munched by the locust when it went in the ground. Not a lot to report at this stage. It seems the plants are relatively free of pests, with only hoppers and leaf miners evident. That little baby is not looking hundreds. I have just potted it up, so hopefully condition will improve.

Look at this. I am in awe of this plant Not even a month ago it was almost devoured by that nasty locust. Now look at it. Knee high now, no longer knee high to a grasshopper lol.

I've added a clone of Inzane In The Membrane to my grow. I tried this strain for the first time a few weeks ago and there was a strong incense profile with pine and lemon, quite a complex flavour. It was a nice head buzz with no ill effects, so I'm happy :yummy:

Weekly Update:
All of the plants are starting to push now which is making me happy. I am still contending with hoppers and now we can add bolworm and aphids to the mix. I have been monitoring the infected plant, Holly, the big Transkei origin plant, and hand picking. The aphids haven't made it onto the ganga yet but they have heavily infected the nearby weeds, which I have been pulling and throwing away. The hoppers are everywhere, and you will even see a tiny one on the Wedding Cake clone.
So here we go as follows -
Holly (Transkei Origin) is thigh high now.

Molly (Transkei Origin) knee high now.

Hi @The Celt I have been reading a lot here and there about LABs and I am pretty sure it was you who talked to me about raising DO in a septic smelling solution? Any idea how I could do that? Mine is smelling really unpleasant and I stirred a fresh batch of LABs into the existing Molasses/LABs solution with my hand.... big mistake. I think you said that the smell is not important if it is being used in a very weak solution, 1tbs to 4 litres water? Still, if I can somehow raise the DO and change the smell, I'd be pleased.

Evening Carmen :)

You can raise the DO in one of 2 ways:

- either aerate with an air stone, the size will depend on the size of your container.

- or you can use a pond pump to pump from the bottom of the tank and spray it into the top.
Thank you Celt. Not going to be worth buying equipment for this stinker.... into the compost it goes.
