Thanks Peejay! Well, I guess I won't worry about them getting any taller? I'll keep the bud sites open moving large leaves around. ;-)

You can flower the clones right away as I understand it. You could also harvest most of everything then just leave some buds and fertilize those as well. Doc bud has a picture of some seeds with the stalk/bud it came from. It should give you an idea of how many seeds you can get even on a small bud. Strain hunters will have some useful info sprinkled around too.

Thanks Rain, I'll look through Doc Bud's photos tonight and see what he has. :-) I like the idea of just leaving a bud or two AFTER harvest too. :thumb:

Now..... I hope you all know.....I am not going to be satisfied with finishing this grow without making some seeds. :biglaugh: I watched some you tube videos today on selective pollinating.
I have a plan :idea:....stay tuned. :winkyface:

I might just do a video this weekend too. Opening day of rifle hunting here on Friday and the boss is closing the biz down. So I will have a 3 day weekend! (I will be hunting too though. LOL)

I cannot seem to get this answered to my satisfaction surfing the web, so I thought I would fly the question by here.

Will a "born" male cannabis plant develop pistils along with the pollen sacs on a normal basis, or do the pistils only happen if you've had a female plant turn hermie?

I don't know for sure, Canna, but I suspect that a male plant can hermie. A plant that starts out female can hermie and make male parts. A plant that starts out male can hermie and make female parts...

Like I said, I don't know - but that is what I suspect.

It was not easy to find the answer, but yes, a male can hermie just like a female can hermie. It's not as common - mostly because people tend to destroy male plants at the first sign of male flowers. Few male plants are allowed to get to the point of sexual maturity where they can show hermie traits. I found the answer in a thread at another site and have PMed you the link.

If the plant you collected pollen from has hermie genetic traits you may not want to use that pollen to make seeds.

And, if it isn't legal to sell high quality pollen, would anyone who has some be adverse to sprinkling some in an envelope and sending it to me like ricin sprinkled in an envelope and mailed to their "favorite" congressman? :geek:

I'm sorry you think so, skybound. Your viewpoint is taken into account and duly noted. Plant genetics are marketed aggressively. If the ricin reference was a little edgy and offended you, I apologize.

Breeders collect desirable male pollen for making crosses. Why it is not distributed is a valid question. The ricin reference was not intended to offend, only to apply a cattle prod to increase dialogue. Smoke a bowl and chill.

I'm not on edge, but I'll smoke a bowl anyway. No harm intended and no offense taken. The ricin joke can be likened to 911 jokes and taken way out of context. Nuff said bout that.

I too think the pollen market should already be primed for hobby breeders and the like. Surprised Herbies and other banks don't sell pollen.

I suspect there is a reason why quality genetics are not available from the male side. I'll look into it soon. I just think it would be really cool if I could get desirable genetics from pollen and carefully Q-Tip some onto desirable girl flowers... At the risk of continuing my distasteful dialogue - human couples lacking a competent "sperm donor" frequently seek out sperm bank "super male" genetics.

Bingo! Yes, any plant can "hermie" male or female. MJ plants are kinda "weird" to the agricultural world as to how they're either female or male; and they "hermie" to try and stay alive due to whatever "life threatening" stress the plant perceives. I find it unlikely that a "male" plant that hermies and shows "female" sex parts would be detrimental to breeding, but I also admit I honestly don't know either, lol. Hats off on the reality of it not being as common as seeing it in "females" because most people scrap "males" as fast as they show though, very astute and true. I still stand by my initial response a few days (I think its only been a few days) ago that its much easier to simply clone females that are "keepers." Btw, if you ripen your plants fully, there's a solid chance any will "hermie" to an extent...just my experience over a few decades.

I'm increasingly concerned about my ricin/congressman comment. It was, indeed, distasteful. It has already been picked up by government anti-terrorism internet surveillance worms, probably.

I have no interest in poisoning anyone!

My observations are that most people breed within the confines of their own grow area. If they want to mess around with crosses, they get seeds, grow them out, and collect pollen from males of the new strains to make a cross with strong female phenos.

It would be really cool if I could secure quality "sperm donor" pollen without all the hassle. I'm sure there are reasons that doesn't go on. I don't need to ask why. I'll find out when I have time. Maybe I'll get answers here...

Seeds do not contain THC, yet they are illegal to mail in the postal system due to where they originate from. I would assume pollen from MJ is the same thoughts. I'm going to look through the U.S. postal rules/codes to see how it is stated....if at all. LOL There is ALWAYS a grey area with U.S. postal rules that they can seemingly adjust at will.

Peejay, if your racin comment bothers you we can always ask a mod to remove it. It's up to you. :cheesygrinsmiley:
