Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Speaking of not liking things.....I did not like the stretch going on with the two clones under the CFL's despite that they were only about 2" away from the lights.
So, I replaced the CFL's with a 400W HPS light.......uh huh. No worky....
I spent two hours trying to figure out why I could plug it into the timer and only the ballast would run....no light.
Tried it in a different room in a wall plug in....yep works great.
After fussing with the thing that long it turned out to be the stupeed ground adapter plug. Apparently it had issues. (the timer is old and does not have a ground plug in) For the heck of it, I changed that and all worked fine.

I am truly ready for my tacking today.

So, does anyone remember how far away to keep an HPS light from seedlings or small clones? I seem to recall that if you put your hand just above the plant and it doesn't get uncomfortably warm that it's good. Right?

:circle-of-love:

I have run seedlings 4-6" further away than adult plants - so 24" for 600W HPS.

Thanks for following up on that!

I can't imagine living in a world of corporate employer drug tests.

I don't understand how IT departments would ever function, or software and games would ever innovate without cannabis.

And music ....

Can you imagine the world of music without cannabis? What musicians would be left that I would want to see?

Garage girls are doing great. I think I might have learned to be a better grower this year. LOL
I'm still seeing pretty high humidity in there. Despite letting the SWICK containers dry out quite a bit. I'll keep a watch on that.

The plants are still tied down. How long do you think I should keep them tied down? I could let them loose anytime, but looking for input on that.

Off to work I go......{{sigh}}

Looking good Sista, give mom a big hug & kiss. Tell her it's from the adopted son she never had. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Remember Sista, your working towards retirement so you can enjoy your hobby full time. And I think by the time you & I get to retire the whole country will be legal. Not that far off now.
Also (just my thoughts).......make lots of seeds just in case they make seed sales illegal so we have to by through some big corporation so they can make their tax and get their big money from special interest.........again just my thoughts. Have a great day (even if it is at work).:hugs:;)

That is a nice looking canopy, do you need to let them loose?

I noticed you have some different/varying colors in your photo and plants in a row, are you using a light mover?

Maybe it's just the gardener's shadow

Hey Radogast, the differences in the plant colors is from each individual LED brand. The ones that look green without any purple or pink casts are under the Smart Grow Light. The pic with the gangly plant on the left is with the Budmaster XG, and the final pic with the most purple color is the two plants under the Mars Hydro LED.

And I could NOT imagine music artists without cannabis. We would be living in a permanent Welky world with accordion music while bubbles float around our heads and the Lennon Sisters wait for their cue.... I cringe at the thought......

Well, I better get seedy then! I'll give Mom the treats tomorrow when I pop over there to check on them.
Get some oil made!

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

We're getting pollen, I have been tapping the bags lightly since yesterday to speed up the dropping.

pollen7.jpg

There is a very small spider in one of the bags......I'm sure he's a bit confused on what kind of rain is happening. LOL

When the pollen has all dropped I'm going to dilute it using the "Uncle Ben's" method using flour. I want to be able to store some for later use after I've pollinated the selected plants/branches.

Here's a post on his pollination method and how he dilutes his pollen to extend it:

Uncle Ben's Pollination Method

I'm wondering if plain ol' cornstarch can be used as a dilution carrier instead of flour. Anybody have thoughts on that?

Hope you all are having a great day. It's Monday, but that is okay. I feel good......RSO is magic juice for feel goods....:circle-of-love:

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

:yahoo: Don't know why....but I just felt like it. LOL

The clones in the house got up-potted. They are on 18/6 HPS 400W light schedule and a small fan going on them to start their strength building exercises before they get tied down.

indoor14.jpg

The humidity in the garage grow is at 80%, but it is 81% outside right now. So I'm guessing we're all kinds of normal, I'll quit worrying. :)

This will be the 5th grow in these fabric grow pots and they are still good and strong. Happy camper!

I love the pots still too. They're stained, but in great shape!

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

It's always enlightening to take a trip on the internet to ask a question. I was searching for "cornstarch as a pollen carrier" and wound up finding out that pollen contains a lot of water in itself, and about predatory mites that are used to control thrips and spider mites, and a patent where pollen is used as a food for said predatory mites that has a mixture of corn starch and other materials to absorb the water so it can be sprayed without clumping. LOL

Anyway, it appears I can use the cornstarch as a carrier. :)

I need to rest the brain now. :geek:

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

It's going to be a crapshoot on pollinating the two wildlings I'm sure. Generally the perfect pollination times for seeds is around 21-24 days into flower from what I've read. Pollinating them as late as this may not produce anything, but it's still worth a try.
We'll see if we can prove the reports wrong regarding this. :)

Either way, I will have the THC bomb within the perfect time frame and I'm sure to get results on that with a couple of chosen branches.

I was hoping for rain, it's been very dry here....we got it this morning right along with some pretty gusty winds. I was watching the THC bomb bending way too far in the gusts. She's soooooo tall. I refrained from biting my fingernails.....then went out in the downpour and moved her behind a big oak tree for a wind break.

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

This garage grow is requiring some heavy maintenance....
The WW x MK has spread out so wide that I think it may very well need it's own light. I've had to shift plants down the row a bit to make room and I raised all of the lights a foot or so too.

9-29_2.jpg

9-29_1.jpg

I have completely run out of tie down pipe cleaners, and the widespread plant can't be tied down to the pot because it reaches too far out. I had to resort to sifting through my nuts and bolts drawer and compensating with hanging those. LOL

9-29_3.jpg

The other plants are so heavily covered with leaves that I am considering a heavy defoliation to get things opened up for light penetration.

I found a very nice article on the net by typing into google "when is the best time to defoliate cannabis" and choosing the very first on the results. I can't post the link here, but it's growweed.... you'll get the rest.
Lots of before and after pics, time lapse and information on the why's and why nots.

There is also Bassman59's post that I referred to last year:

Increasing yield with defoliation indoors - What's it mean? How to do it?

I could spend a whole day in there moving branches around and trying to tuck leaves to open up bud sites.

So, I know it's a controversial subject...but I'm probably going to do that with at least two of these plants.

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

With that even canopy it would be a thrill to see you drop a scrog screen over the top right 'bout tomorrow.

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

That's an idea PeeJay, now that my squash is all done for the season I can use the doggy cage screen like I did in the first grow.

Hmmm.....

I put a PM in to the folks at Smart Grow on the defective light to see if they would just let me purchase that one for a discounted price and I would keep it. I know it's taking a chance on completely failing, but I could certainly attempt a repair. I'm fairly good at figuring out things like that....I think. :scratchinghead: Then I could put that up in the garage and get those plants some more room.

So, which of you knew what I was going to say next? Yep! I'm going to do a time lapse on the before and after of a heavy defoliation.

Too much fun....not enough time.

Yeah, Canna, give a couple a haircut. Back in the fuzzy past you may recall that I dove into that realm and went from this:

To this:

It'll be interesting to see what you observe, for sure. A defol wrench is a great tool to have in the situational management tool box.

Back in the foggy past you also experimented with a SCroG but that was when you were feeding and there were concerns about access to the containers for flushing and whatnot. This block of plants is all in that dirt you mixed earlier this summer right? Seems to be solid. You also have easy 360 degree walk-around access in this case.

That time lapse of the defol will be great to see Canna. When do you expect to post it? Just rough guess.

Forgot to mention, I thought I was the only one who used loose hardware to weight branches. Great minds think alike. LOL!

Ohhhhhh My GOD!

Not sure if I can handle my two favorite hyper-active growers bouncing off each other. Thank goodness I just harvested a ton of really down weed.
