Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Get them a room, make it nice and comfortable, soft music playing and a gentle breeze and leave them to it. As close to nature as possible without the danger of him going rogue and spreading his stuff around :thumb:

Good idea, unfortunately he's too tall to put him inside in a room. He's over 5 foot and I have already put the spare bedroom back to it's normal use. Ceilings are too low anyway.
I've got a couple of choices outside and a little time to decide. Because I'm down to 3 plants in the screen house and they are portable, I may put them in the wildlings haven or out by the pond with Top Gal and use the screen house for these two. There's no chance of pollen getting to the haven from there. Hmmm.....still thinking. LOL

Not liking that MK x WW at all. It will probably be male. LOL

The two clones are coming in tomorrow or Monday when I switch to 12/12 schedule. One is Afghan Kush, and the other is one I cannot remember who I took from. LOL I think it was Buddha.... I didn't think it survived, the leaves went yellow and brown so I set it on the work bench. Lo and behold I went to toss it and saw roots coming out of the plug after almost two weeks or so. ;-)

I did find some interesting things when I googled.

I eat a lot of garlic, so I got that covered. LOL

Funny thing is, I came down with the migraine this morning and despite it I decided to just plunder through and get some things done. One thing on my list was harvesting some of the last wild mint outside and making mint extract with the Magical Butter machine.

Separating the leaves from the stems gave a nice aroma and I found that the nausea faded a bit. I went outside for pictures of the plants and it returned. Came back in and the smell in the house of the mint calmed my stomach again.
So, mint is helping a bunch! I might make some mint tea tonight. :)

Edit: I just noticed in the second to last pic of Top Gal, there is a young Katydid? or some other leaf critter under a leaf. You'll see it as a brownish area. I'm heading out to snatch that off there.

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Second thought process on pollination near the other plants, the damn leaf hoppers and other leaf critters I have. I'm sure they would carry some pollen around from plant to plant.
So, I think I'll go with the screen house for the short time that the pollen is active.

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Finally, here's the dry weights on the harvest. Not in any real order. I guess this is about average for average auto strains, which is another reason I'm going to stick with the photo period plants from hereon in general.
It always shocks me at the difference between wet and dry weight.
Please excuse the off color, combo of camera flash and a cfl light that is old. I just wanted to record the weights quickly.

I vote you go for the turkey roasting bag to collect the pollen. It worked really well, you'll be able to store some for later use, and you can selectively pollinate branches on more than one plant if you so desire.

Wow, 7 zips from those autos? Nice!

I'm going to make some long bags to tie over the pollen branches using my food saver system plastic. Then I can isolate more than one branch for the pollen and it will still get light.
I am also going to make use of a large tomato cage and plastic sheeting. After I pollinate the selected plant, that will go over it to prevent any stray pollen and still allow light to the plant in addition to keeping the leaf critters off temporarily.
I won't have to dig anything up.

PeeJay, do you remember how long it took for the pollen sacs to be ready?
I could go to my pollination journal, but I thought you might remember off hand.

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Canna, I put the bags on about three days after this:

20150813_081953.jpg

12 days later I had this:

20150826_080503.jpg

I'm a little concerned about the foodsaver plastic because it will close in on itself and smother the growth. The turkey roasting bags don't close in on themselves.

The earliest male flowers are on the top of the plant. Simply put the bag over the top of the plant leaving airspace and seal it with a twist tie. Then bend the stem right below the bag so that it points down.

20150824_170607.jpg

You can put a spoonful of cornstarch in the bag, shake it around, and dump it out before you put the bag on the plant, too. The thin film of cornstarch will suck up any moisture in the bag and keep the pollen dry.

While you wait for the pollen to drop you'll need to patrol the uncovered lower part of the plant and remove any balls you see - pretty easy.

Mess around with the foodsaver plastic. You have a few days yet before anything will open. I'd suggest you try a foodsaver bag on one branch today and see if the plant growth inside the bag lives. If it looks sketchy then get some turkey bags. They are like 2 fer 3 bucks and work great.

Edit: The first picture was 12 days before the last picture. Nine days from when the bag went on until I had all that pollen.

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Thanks a bunch PeeJay!
I had already thought of the bags closing in, so I have some 1/4" window sealer strips that I ordered way too much of that I am going to stick around the outside of the bag to hold it round. I hope you can picture what I mean on that. LOL
The dollar store and grocery store are not convenient right now, so I'm going to give the strip idea a test run before I spend time/money to get the turkey bags.
Thanks for posting that picture, I couldn't remember how you did that top part of the plant. This process should be much easier than going out constantly to tap the pollen into a container. ;-)

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Pictures always help. LOL
Here's what I have, and I will dust the inside with cornstarch per your good suggestion:

To be honest, my car is suffering a major mechanical issue and the longer I can squeak it just back and forth to work, the longer I have to come up with the money to get it fixed proper. I don't go anywhere that I don't absolutely have to right now. LOL

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Hey, that should work out just great! You're a smart cookie. :thumb:

Mint choco chip, I hope. :laughtwo:

While I was digging out the food saver and bag rolls I found two clear plastic laundry/personal belongings bags that the nursing homes use. They have drawstrings and the plastic is similar to a turkey bag, not like regular plastic. They stay rather rigid.
The size is absolutely perfect to fit over the plant I'm going to pollinate. Luck prevails!

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

I'm trying very hard to beat this migraine that is kicking my arse, but it ain't budging!
So, I figure while I sit here I can clean off the memory card. (interesting looking at pictures with sunglasses on. LOL)

I ran into the pics I took of the problem purple plant after "harvesting". This thing literally had nothing but purple leaves with some trichs on them. I found only one small area that could be considered in any way a bud. LOL

It weighed almost nothing:

purp_25.jpg

purp_14.jpg

And a much more satisfying plant, Top Gal in the morning mist with a friend:

mist_11.jpg

She loves sunshine:

mist_2.jpg

And what you can do with artificial lighting on glowing leaves can be done with natural lighting too.

mist_3.jpg

I checked my homemade pollen collection bag and branch. It survived with no problem, so the system will work. It's going to be a few days before anything is ready for pollen, those pollen sacs are still too young.
Can't wait to get this going.

re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

I'm somewhat of an expert on migraines since I've had one almost everyday for the past 10 years :laughtwo: Sometimes it works to change the medicine you're taking, because at a point your body gets used to a type. Paracetamol also is helpful if you take a pain med + it. I'm sure you've already tried everything by now, that's what I do when I get one I cant shake off. What sucks the most is going to sleep in pain and waking up with it, just hate that feeling.

Thanks daTenshi, and I am so sorry to hear you have to suffer with these so often!
I stopped taking any kind of pharmaceutical medications, in addition to any over the counter pain meds a few years ago. I was in a trap with those things for way too long and too much damage was done in regards to permanent side effects. The only thing is my possession is aspirin for a just in case measure of heart attack. ;-)

I've always swirled Jack Daniels onto a tooth for pain and it works like crazy, but I can't figure a way to swirl it through my forehead. :loopy:

I am going to sneak a bud in the vape tonight to see if that helps. The mint tea helped, but it was a short lived relief from the nausea. Didn't touch the pain whatsoever.

I'm cruising the net looking for possible home remedies today. I'm sure I will find some ancient resource. LOL
