Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

I've heard that the ocean salt in coco coir can vary a lot (Ocean beaches, palm trees.) I suggest you rinse thoroughly in a fabric pot before use.

I haven't done much with coco. I used part of a block as aeration in a few gallons of soil. I switched to perlite and gave the rest away.

Good info Radogast, :thanks:
I do see a lot of different brands of it out there.

Popcorn buds seem to get a bad rap....I think they are the cutest little critters. They give me pistil fever:

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

Okay, I have a friend who keeps suggesting I try the Hempy buckets method. I will use a combination of perlite and coco in larger planters, and will have 2 or 3 plants in the back bathroom (probably the shower stall), so any leakage or accidental spills will just go down the drain.

I'll choose the same strain, growing one in soil and one in the hempy's so I can see the difference in the end.

Wild man, did you use any coco in your hempy's or just perlite? And did you start your plants out in the final pot, or transplant them after the seedling stage? This is new to me, so don't kick me too hard.

I'll post some pics as soon as I have this set up ready to go. :)

I follow Tead's grow.

He does perlite only in 2L hempy bottles painted dark to keep light from the roots.
Fertilized only once with 6g osmocote in the perlite - then water only.

Tead starts them in a 3-gal perlite bucket, then transplants to 2-liter w/osmocote once they get to feeding size.

HI Yeatster, I'll PM you back before I go to work today.

Radogast, I'm going to check out Tead's grow and see how he's doing with it. I have some of those Hyro Halo drip rings for planters coming in the mail on Saturday, I'm going to try to hook up a watering system for the back bathroom with those.
I really am excited about trying something new with growing. :)

Dennise.....funny....I've never seen the movie but sure loved the packaging.

It's Frrrriiiiidayyyyyy!

Have a great day everyone!

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

I'm now 1L (actually 1Qt) hempy exclusively. 75/25ish perlite/vermiculite. Reservoir pump feeds distribution manifold that feeds 1/4" lines to each 'pot'. My pots are 32oz plastic drink cups that have the drain holes burned/melted in with a soldering iron. They all sit on a purpose built flood table that drains back to the res. I just monitor and adjust through out the week. Change on the weekends. I know you saw the pics in Grizzy's journal. Working pretty damn well. I have 6 of these systems in small MH tents with MarsII 400's, all in a climate controlled shed. 2 tents share a light timer, a pump timer and a 6" exhaust fan. Pumps kick on every 6hrs. 2 pairs of tents (4 tents total) comprise a complete 'system'. 2 tents cycle on at noon, off at midnight. The other two on at midnight, off at noon. This means there is A) constant even power consumption, B) constant even heat output by the lights, which C) close the day night temp delta significantly (which helps with density and reduced stretching), and D) plenty of lights on time during the day in each tent for me to muck about.

Miss ya.

Well I have missed you too! Along with many other members. I have to admit I saw your posts in a few places this morning, and it warmed my heart to see you out and about. Was hoping you would stop by here, you did....and gave me some very nice info. I think I am going to love this hempy thing (thank you, WildJim for repeating your suggestions on this to me. LOL)

I did see the pics at Grizzy's place, I'm going to look again. I do have a lot of hydro stuff I can put to use here, so I won't have to purchase much at all.

First thing is a fine mesh screen on the shower drain in the back bathroom. I don't want perlite getting sucked into that accidentally. LOL

This weekend is going to be fun....cooking....planning grows and getting set up.....I can't think of anything I would rather do. Well, besides staying "baked".

:thanks:

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend perl/vermic or coco down the drain, lol. Filter is a good idea. If a filter at the drain has issues you can span a 'flood/drain table' across the tub, with it's drain filtered. A piece of ply, some short sides, and some pond liner make up the basics of my tables. Obviously it would dump down into the tub. I use a stretchy womens nylon around my tables drain tubes. Learned quick to leave a little extra, sorta like a....uh....ahem....reservoir tip... :bigblush: ..... to collect material, especially when new pots with new growing media are put in. Plenty of dust and fine particles wash out with first few floods. I recommend a thorough rinse of the fresh media before use. Make it run off clean, mix a little and rinse more. Still, stuff collects little by little.

And a potential added bonus; the plants are a little higher if you don't like them being down in the tub leaving salt rings (my back screams NO WAY!).

I planned on stopping in, at least to say hi. But lo and behold I find you are considering hempy. Had to chime in on that.

You how where to find me if you have questions, want pics or need/want my unique view on a problem.

ROFL, shhhhhh.......:shhh: .....don't tell him. I've been sneaking a bit off each bud every time I see it....(surprised there's any left. ) :passitleft:

Thanks for the suggestions, I remember the perlite dust when I was doing the SWICK containers and learned to rinse that stuff as well as my clay pebbles. LOL
I had planned on lining the shower stall with heavy duty plastic onto a homemade pvc frame, thank goodness I have some here. So, that's a great tip too.
Last thing I want is a plugged up drain, the likes of which I had to tear a whole drain/pipe system apart to fix last year. BLECH!

What are you transferring your plants to after the 32 oz. cups?

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

SOG baby. They are finishing in those cups. The frosty 3 1/2 week FP pic in Grizzy's place are in 32oz powerade bottles. There are 20 in that tent and were left overs from starting a batch for a friend/client. I'll let you know what my dry weight ends up being. They are my proof of concept and what the rest of the tents were modeled after. In the other tents I have 25 plants starting from seed straight to 12/12. I couldn't drink that much neon drink, so I bought the tumblers.

Densely packed SOG. The most efficient use of the space I could come up with.

Forgot to mention that ultimately I will have it down to harvesting and starting a new batch every two weeks or so. That's why so many individual tents. Densely packed SOG perpetual.

Oh, and the Purple Paralysis that never worked for you.... kicks butt. I love it and am about to S1 pollinate a very bushy mother. Try it again if you have the occasion.

:thanks: And good news on the Purple Paralysis, I have three of them budding. I gave them one last shot, they started out rough...then I had an indoor unexpected critter problem, almost gave up on them. I persevered and they made it. One is getting chopped this weekend! So it's good to read that it kicks arse. Woo Hoo!
Those 2 litre pepsi bottles are going to come in handy for me methinks. :tokin:

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

Awesome. Give it the full 10 weeks if you can. I harvested one at about 8 (situation dictated that it had to go) and it was still really good. A very welcome strain change. I have 8 clones coming up on week 5, another near wk5 clone that's about to release pollen, and the mother at day 16 getting ready to accept pollen in a week or so. Unfortunately they are prone to the borg, and I'm still fighting them. Can't wait for these to be done so I can rid the area. Everything is on a steady diet of SNS 209 (I think that's the one) until they are gone. So far it's contained.

Short update before I go to work on the newest flowering girls. They're all doing well. The two White Cookies and Darkstar here aren't stretching too much:

I used to do a lot of Ice Fishing. I don't do it anymore, but I have two of these "Jet Sleds" that I used to haul my gear onto the lake with:

jet_sled.jpg

They are ribbed on the bottom, so plant containers can stay up out of the drain water. I'm kind of thinking they will make a good base for the hempy pots. Whatcha think?
Size is perfect for the bathroom for one of them. 54" x 24"
I'll have to cut a hole or two, but at least they will be put to use again. :)

Drain and Flood. Timers. Pumps? Sounds a lot like pure hydro - not what I think of when I think of Hempy.

Sounds a bit more touchy and much more refined than hempy holes near the bottom of a pot.

If you are going to use timers and tubes, then a drain might be needed.

If you only water on watering day, then I'd leave your Jet Sled intact and use a big sponge or ShopVac to clean up after the watering.
