Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

Well to be honest... that's just caused more questions and I'm not asking...:thedoubletake:....:circle-of-love:

I'll let Rado explain that. LOL

Realtors say that houses sell faster without all of the homeowner clutter (as they call it) and personal effects in the rooms. They think it's best to get it down to the basic things without so much to distract the potential buyer from looking at the actual home features.
Hope that makes sense. ;-)

Atta-girl. Fix it and make it better in the process.

I'm not familiar with the light, but where the LED's sit or mount, do they make contact with a heat sink? If so is there a thermal paste or glue between them? Computer CPU thermal paste might make a good material to better heat transfer.

Just sayin'....while you're in there and all...;)

Thanks Heirloom. :)

There are no heat sinks anywhere.
The LED panels are attached directly to the metal housing.

There was a layer of white thermal paste between the panel and the actual metal housing, but it was haphazardly brushed on in very thin layers. Large areas that were bare.
The actual power units that give off the heat, (there are three of them) are attached to the inside top part of the housing. When the top is secured down there is only about a 1" space between the power units and the actual panels under the aluminum. That heat is going straight onto the panels through the aluminum. IMO
I brought the original defective unit up here and plugged it in, left it over an hour on. Then I felt the LED panels from the outside. They were very hot!
I don't believe the concept of the heat being absorbed completely in the housing one bit. Some of it is, but certainly not enough of it. There is literally no air movement inside. Nothing to take the heat out and nothing to bring air in other than a bunch of small ventilation slats. If there is no fan for circulation...what good are they?

So....plan B, after looking this thing over...there is no room to put fans in there with the power units in the way. I'm going to attach the power units on top of the housing (on the outside). It's going to take some hole drilling for wires and such, but I think that's a solution to keep that heat away from the LED panels and trapped inside.

Here's the inside and the outside panels:

Install a radiant barrier shield between the power units and the bottom panel. Also cut a hole in the top panel directly over the power units, one each. Make the holes large enough to mate with a computer fan. Mount fans on top of holes, drawing air around power units and up/out. Wire up fans.

Just thinking out loud...errr...typing....loudly....or something.

I see two devils or angels. Can't tell the difference from just looking really. Isn't that often the case in life?

Morning from the Great White...wait, there are blooms on the trees and the lake melted, uh, the Great Green North!
Bob ;)

Blooms on the trees!! I've got nothing but sticks on the trees here in Massachusetts - I won't miss these long, lingering New England winters.

The beauty of the design.... Is that it doubles as a heater or burnouts are approximated just after warranty, hopefully resulting in further sales.... it's a business plan, how could it go wrong, lol...

Is that all factory wiring?

Yep :)

I can't mount fans on top of the power units because they are flush with the top. If I lower them, that puts them even closer to the panels. However..you did give me an idea on where to mount a couple to pull that warm air out, I'm going to do some measuring and marking. :thumb:

I'm sure glad I didn't push this company when I first got that initial defective light. I would have egg on my face for sure, and I'm allergic to those at the moment.

Heirloom,

the radiant barrier shield you mentioned...I have some foil/foam that is used to wrap pipes for freeze protection. Will that work? It would fit perfectly in the bottom of the housing just above the panels. The foam has sticky to it.

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

Perfect, as long as you have space air between the radiant barrier and the heat source.

EDIT: If your added fans make the large empty tin box noisy (sonic resonance) you can use strips of that stuff stuck to the large flat metal areas that act like a drum head. It mutes them pretty well. I used something similar on the interior panels like inside the door skins, floor boards and roof skin when I restored my 69 ford truck. They are notorious for sounding like you are inside a drum. Now it's closer to a new car.

When the levy breaks....

Great article and news. Each win will propagate another I hope. Happy day Canna!
Bob ;)

Absolutely! I'm not gettin' real excited yet, the feds have made statements to shut people up before....and nothing ever happens.
Let's hope this time will be more serious with reviewing and actually have a positive outcome.
