Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

I can't remember where or who's journal it was Doc but I have seen someone that veg's in felt and just sits it in a bigger bucket of flowering soil when they flip and the roots go right through without having to transplant... If I remember who or where I will let you know but I have seen it done.....:circle-of-love:

When I ran my oxygen pot system you got roots growing out the sides of the cloth pots as they sat in the flood and drain buckets and didn't get much light? I ran soil in that setup and roots became an issue in the system as I progressed through flower? :)

There we go, some growing roots observed in flower. Very interesting! Here I am making a spanner/wrench joke and you are filling in the gaps in my knowledge! Thanks Light!
:thanks:

If you see it out there it would be very neat to take a gander. I really think it will work easy peasy the more I think it though!

Now I understand, the age old TAD (Transplant Avoidance Disease)

I wonder though...in time, will it start to breakdown your fabric pots being surrounded by moist soil with no air to dry them out periodically? Maybe depends on what the felt is made of. Mine is Eco Felt, which is supposed to be made of recycled plastics, but there are very different versions out there. Just a thought....maybe I'm off base.

I have also seen people do this, and the same here...I can't remember who. Too early for thinking, I'll try to start the brain again later.

I do believe it's DrZiggy that just stacks pots up without the need for transplant. Link here.

:thanks:

I was over to that link for a bit, it looks like the plastic ones do go into the soil and the fabric ones sit on top of the soil in that series of pics. I'll keep going through it to see if he buries those as well.

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

The bubble cloner cuttings are getting some very small roots peeking out already. I was happy with that for just a mere 3 days.

However....spring was confused the last time it rained (last week). I collected the rainwater and have been using it here and there when the distilled water runs out. I actually think the rainwater is better for the plants, so I will use that whenever I have it.
The confusion is, when I checked the stems on the cuttings I could see little black specs on them....looking really closely...one wiggled!

These are mosquito larvae attached to some of the stems, and probably floating around in that water, the bubbling action giving them air? A bit early in the season for mosquitos!

I'm wondering if maybe I should put a shot of hydrogen peroxide in the water to kill them off?

I honestly don't think I have posted "gross" on any other journal as many times as I have here but gross.... What is up with you and all the friggin bugs...:thedoubletake:...:circle-of-love:

:rofl::rofl::rofl:
I dunno.....maybe I'm just more aware of them now because of last years' bug circus.

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

I've often buried my cloth pots up into another size and apart from it being a pain to clean up again for the next run I've had no issues :) I've also done the dropping of the cloth pot onto the surface of another plastic pot to give bigger root zone. I was surprised how well the roots filled out the lower bigger space through flowering! :)

I believe mosquito larvae need to breathe air through the tube at the end of their tail.
The very fact the surface of the water is roiling and bubbling is probaby enough to drown them without other treatment.

:thanks:

That's what I always thought, they hatch in standing/stagnant water. So, I'm thinking that there were some eggs laid in the rainwater from last week, we had a couple of very warm springish days before I brought the water inside. They attached themselves, or the eggs did, to the stems from the water and are actually avoiding the rapid movement of the water. There is no mistaking that they are mosquito larvae.
I wiped all of the stems down really good and dropped a couple of teaspoons of H202 in the water. We'll see what happens.
If I see anymore, the bucket is getting dumped/bleached and I'll fill it with distilled water.

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

A single drop of oil (thin like olive, not CCO) in the water will also drown (suffocate) them, but I'm not sure how the plants would like it.

Good point Johnny, they would love a drop of CCO :thedoubletake:

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

Does CCO cause the "munchies"? Cause I don't think I really want a bunch of mosquitoes flying around me with a stoners hunger. Little buggers like to suck my blood enough as it is. No need to make them any hungrier.

Morning Canna. Coffee is yam yam! (which I learned recently means the same as Yummy. This site turning me into a world traveler without leaving my garden!)

We are world travelers, isn't that exciting? LOL Nope, don't get the munchies with the oil. I get hungry, but not munchies. Good hearty meals, no sweets.

I like Yam Yam...."Yam Yam cuppa"....hmmmmmm...

Update on the last graft attempt, it isn't looking real healthy...but it isn't dead either. I'm going to let it go until it decides what to do.
The other two are in the bubble cloner doing fine, so I haven't lost anything from the experimenting.
