Cannabis Life & Times Of BTzGrow

Ok, first I just wanted to say it was worth the wait even with some of the damage to my girls that got too big for the little tiny veg tent.

Box received in perfect condition and all of the labels on the outside were black taped out so no one would know what was inside. Identical packing as the first tent I received from GGT except much larger. Still easy to manage and move around.

This is a Gorilla Grow Tent 2x4x6'7" lite. Bought from one of their distributors out of state. I ordered and paid no shipping or tax. $197 directly to my door. Drop shipped from Northern California in Santa Rosa. Perfect!!!

I got home a little after 8:30 this evening. Had a little after working snack. I know, how could I even wait. Right???

I started around 9pm. unboxed and did an quick inventory. I wasn't actually that concerned with that regards, but always best to to regardless. I laid the tent out on the garage floor after moving the car outside. Assembled top and bottom framing poles first with the corner pieces. Laid the bottom frame inside the tent bottom and then dropped the splash bottom inside. Connected the side poles into the bottom frames. Finished by putting the top frame on.

Unfolded the Tent Top and placed it over the top frame. Beginning at the backside of the tent brought the tent up and began to zipper it all together. After getting the back zippered up it was a very simple walk around to finish zippering the sides and front into place. All told time to unbox and put up and together under 30 minutes.

I had to move a final shelf from the wall it was going up against and then put it into place just as I had planned.
I wanted the two GGT's side by side by design to share a ducting T with foil hose down to the blower and filter.

I spent a little time taking my existing ventilation duct apart and adding a T duct with another adjustable elbow. Placed the Filter & Blower directly on the floor between the tents. The foil duct up between the tents to the T duct that is between the tents. With both tents closed and the blower on high there is definitely an vacuum effect with both tents sides pulled in.

One final picture. My monster girls that have been not so patiently waiting for their new home. They are all over 3feet tall and haven't been flipped yet. This will be an adventure.

More on them in their individual threads.

I'm sure a few would want to come home and check out the action if they knew. :p

The girls already are feeling much better. The seemed to already have perked up a bit. I'm really glad I finally settled on the 2 foot deep concept for fitting things into my garage. I feel this should meet my needs for a long time in the future.

Part of the final decission for the GGT 2x4 was the shared blower idea given to me by one of the Customer Service folks at GGT. The shared blower appears to be working well for my purposes and my intent. Both tents have a major pull in at full power. Love the adjustable blower concept.

I've been flirting with the idea of getting into growing Bonsai Mum's. Any ideas would be welcome.

I've been studying an old classic tutorial on the subject written originally by Oldtimer1. How to Create a Bonsai Mother for Unlimited Clones | Grow Weed Easy.

I have not been able to find a reference to the best lighting to use for this effort. Perhaps I have overlooked? I feel a single bulb 2ft T5 fixture would be adequate. You thoughts? Here's the type of T5 bulb I'm thinking could be very good for growing. However perhaps too good?
I'm considering using the Clone/Seedling Tote I made last year. Here are some pictures of it.

First the box itself:
The Lid with a double T5 fixture and a small fan mounted. This picture gives a size perspective of just how much can fit inside the tote.

Just a note to record that I switched the Triple Cheese and SLH sisters in the new 2x4 tent over to a 12/12 light schedule. I had said I would wait through the weekend, but the growth since the move has been remarkable and I am going to try and get ahead of it. Yikes! Rocket Science this is not!

I took 8 cuttings from my Triple Cheese grow yesterday and put them in my propagation tray inside the Clone/Seeding tote I made early last year. Current plan it to take at least the 4 strongest, maybe even the 6 strongest and transfer them into 1 gallon pots with perlite in about a week to 10 days. The pots have holes in the bottom and I might add a couple more on the sides of each to be used in a new Ebb & Flow system I'm going to be experimenting with.

Sounds like it's going to be a cheese-fest! Good luck with the roots :).

:thumb:The very cheesiest indeed! 24hrs later and they are the healthiest looking clones I've ever take. Less heat, less light they are happy. :circle-of-love:

I have a question about your filter system. It looks like you are blowing the air through it as opposed to sucking air through it. How is that working for you? I have only used the filters in the tent and the exhaust hose open.

Using one instead of 2 would save me money.

Sharp Eye you have.

You are correct I do have the filter and blower outside the tent, all though that wasn't that hard to guess. From my experience it works very well.

Here are a couple of closeupsView media item 1690804View media item 1690803 As you can see the Filter sits directly on the floor with the blower on top then the dryer hose up to the T fitting. From the T fitting there are to extensions to the adjustable 90 degree elbows with another extension to penetrate the tent a bit better. Very cheap set up actually. I think I'm into the entire system for under $100.

I originally went that way because my first tent was only 5'7" tall and I was concerned that if I had the blower and filter in the tent it would take up room in the top of the tent. I have also been one to seek simplistic solutions when possible. By putting the filter with the blower outside the tent it's saving space inside and I don't have to use anything to strap or hang it anywhere. Being between the two tents saves space and is out of the way. Additionally I have light control timers on the wall in the same space. All nice an tidy.

Originally with only the one tent I had already a shelf outside at the level of one of the pass thru holes. So it made sense. I used a 4" Metal duct work 90 degree adjustable elbow and a couple of extensions and put it all together. Worked so well that I needed to by the bars to keep the tent from sucking in from GGT.

Speaking of Gorilla Grow Tent, a customer service rep turned me on to the idea of using one blower for more than one tent. He told me in passing (sort of a Oh by the way) that many growers using their tents connect multiple tents together with ducting and run only one blower and filter. Apparently according to him some people are daisy chaining several tents together kind of like in series, while others are doing a parallel idea where all of the ducts go to a manifold into the blower.

I had already determined that the CFM of my adjustable 4" blower was rated at 180CFM. My 2x2.5x6'7 GGT works out to be 32.5 cubic feet. That would explain the major sucking in factor at higher blower speeds. My new tent is a 2x4x6'7, so it is 52 cubic feet. Total of both tents equals 84.5 cubic feet. Approximately half of the blower capacity at full speed. NIce!!!

One of the things I continue to see in the micro/hobby/home growing world is distributors/Hydro stores up sell people to equipment that exceeds peoples basic needs by a lot. I get why on several reasons. Stocking multiple sizes is more expensive, and selling the larger 6", 8" and larger Blowers and Filters along with larger duct work is more profitable. It's also easy to tell the unsuspecting novice grower he needs lots of air movement and the bigger sizes will certainly do that. But it's not necessary.

I apply quite a bit of mechanical engineering to many of life's applications. So the idea of calculating the CFM needs of air movement was a natural. I do the same thing with lighting in the tents. I have an entirely different story on how I calculate the lighting needs and also save on electricity and reduce the need for cooling the inside of the tents.

Long story to a short question. However I like to give reasons to why I do things because they make sense and many people haven't given them any thought. Additionally many people follow form of what others are doing and don't consider there are other options. I like options.

If it's pulling the sides of the tent in it's a sucker not a blower! Are your intake ports screened?
Most are closed tightly. One each down low has 3 90degree PVC elbows connected in such a way that it prevents light from entering and each has a nylon paint straining screen over the intake. Easily cleaned or replace routinely. With the intakes reduced down and limited, the sides pull in and show that there is a negative pressure in the tent as it should be always.

The blower as it's called I believe has the ability to suck and blow. I mount the filter on the output of the blower. So it is sucking what in the tent and blowing it out through the filter. I know many put the filter inside the tent and pull air through the filter and blow it out of the tent. I prefer to save all the headroom space in my tent for Lights and a Monkey Fan. It allows the plants to have more space and for my thinking better environmental control of temp and humidity.

I works for me. Now that I'm using a single blower/filter system for two tents, it's really the only way I could see it happening. I am prone to over design and making things much harder than required. So I start with an initial idea and then begin to look for simpler solutions that are easier and less expensive to augment instead. K.I.S.S. is my motto.

LMAO nice point..... Definitely something to consider. Always nice to see stuff work a different way. Never know when you need to redesign a grow setup. I could see me doing it one day.

Just a little update on my 8 Triple Cheese Clones Cuttings I took on June 24th, 19 days ago.
They are doing extremely well. Root Check shows several have large numbers of roots popping out of the Root Riot Cubes I prefer to use. I have been keeping them moist with a 1/4 strength mix of Clonex Solution pH balanced at about 5.75. They have been in my DIY Clone/Seedling Box under a single T5 6200K Bulb. I tried two bulbs for a day and the heat generated was drying out the cubes quickly.

I haven't been in a hurry with these cuttings. Their new home has been in the process of creation. I'm embarking on a new(for me) growing technique called Ebb & Flow. Almost finished with the system. Picked up the final items yesterday, so I can up pot 4 of these beauties tomorrow.
