Hey Canna-comrades great seeing all the fine flowering indoor plants. I had some real trouble germinating seeds this spring, other than the volunteers, (one of those is almost 10 inches high in the garden.) I think my problem was one of to things: improper temperatures and contamination. I started them in wet paper towells in baggies and sat them on the yogurt maker. I've rarely had any germination problems but this year has been awful. Nothing popped, so after a week I decided to see if I did something wrong. I think they might have got a bit too hot on the yogurt maker which is weird because it's always worked in the past, but if it wasn't that it could have been chlorine residue in the tap water, or in the paper towels.

Anyway I'm back on track with a new batch of seeds that were first soaked in a jar of distilled water for 18 hours, and them put directly into a cup with potting soil, these ones are doing better and I can see them start to sprout, big sigh of relief.

u never really know why at home.. my guess bad seeds..

Here's all I got on the go, All Gas and Pink Lemonade. I tend to go for apical dominance and bend them if I have to.

hey what is apical dominance ? yes i think apical dominance is a better way to go outside.... more air circulating inside the plant ... less chance of problems..

indoor its not as good , want a bigger canopy up top closer to the lights ..

I had the same problem but it was more temperature control. I got so desperate after 2 wasted batches of seeds. Montreal is cold until mid-May.
I tried a seeding matt...too hot. I put a few layers of cotton beneath, too dry but nice temp. I used a candy thermometer to measure temp and a plastic mushroom container to keep the humidity in.
If you can't get spring water for the germination, you can always boil water and put it into a clear, open-mouthed jar. I have read that if you put it into the sunlight, it dechlorinates due the photo thingy. (my bad)
Also, Comarade. Germs still need oxygen. Baggies are great to keep humidy but when taps over-grow, due to lack of oxygen, they become very sensitive when planting.
I know because I went through HELL this winter.

Chlorine evaporates at room temperature from water 24 to 48 hrs its all gone .. i use city tap water and always leave the water out 48 hrs .. your making germination sound very complicated... water, seed , toilet paper small glass
wrap toilet paper on inside a few time add 1/2 inch water drop and wedge seeds between glass and toilet paper
u can watch the root grow n pull out easy to plant.. been doing this process since pre school.. grow you apples
and orange seeds this way too... almost 60 yrs success.. put in kitchen cupboard dark and room temp.. perfect..
can be 1 to 7 days if longer dead seed.. 5 or 10 seeds to a glass works..

Chloramine is getting used more in municipal water supplies, it's harder to get rid of. I have marginal well water and I don't drink it. My last seed was real stubborn and needed 80 + to get going. Rockwool works best for me.

Million different ways to grow weed and I like them all. I grow more than I use so I don't need big weight. I like a plants natural shape and without the downtime of it having to reallocate hormones from training. My seed bank is loaded and it's great to just see what's there ................ mater of fact I'm older and untrained and don't care to reallocate my resources much away from growing bud either ........... and I got a shit load of lighting to blast open the canopy.:cheesygrinsmiley:

I can only speak from the gardening aspect. But most warm weather seeds like it between 65-75 F to germinate and I assume cannabis is similar. I don't know how warm the Yogurt maker is set but it maybe the issue. I see some people use a Yogurt maker to do Cobs which would indicate it can reach between 77-104F which is at the high end I would assume for germination. I have put my seeds on the top of my hot water tank to germinate which is just barley over room temp.....

Thanks to all for your advice, our community is so helpful to others. I'm starting to think it was the temperature, maybe I cooked them on the yougurt maker, that makes sense. DD they were the same seeds each time, so the seeds were not the problem. My seeds are all popping nicely, I actually have more than I need so I'll see which ones make the cut.

This year I want to grow:

Purple Satellite X Zamaldelica
Golden Tiger X Sinai
(Zamaldelica x Sinai) X Mango Zamal
Zamaldelica X Sinai
Zamaldelica X (Durban Poison x Big Freeze) the voluteer seed

As you can see my genetics are all tilted toward African sativas, almost all have some Reunion Island (Zamal) or Malawi genetics, but with additions of genes from the Himalayas, the Red Sea, Afghanistan, Thailand and Mexico. I really liked the Purple Satellite from last year, I highly recommend it and it's an early variety, with an incredible grape Kool-Aid, blackberry and sage aroma, hopefully it will add some warmth to the Zamaldelica. Also, I'm hoping the Sinai genes will give the Golden Tiger an earlier flowering time, and a more euphoric uplift. My goal is to breed Purple Satellite X Zamaldelica with Zamaldelica X Sinai, that maybe an awesome cross. Hopefully it will be an earlier flowering variety and have a strong Sativa high combined with the warmth from the Himalayan and the euphoria of the Sinai, at least that's the goal.

One of the strains I'm vaping lately is Bhangi Haze which I grew last year, it was a single feminized seed freebie from ACE. It is a combination of Congolese X Himalayan and although not strong THC-wise, maybe 10%, (I had to harvest early) who knows what it would do in a warmer climate or indoors, the high is a great combination of warmth and a clear, non-racey, non-paranoia thoughtful sativa buzz. I vaped some last night and watched Edmonton and Calgary in one of the strangest playoff games I've seen in years, great fun!

I hear what you are saying Delta but after 12 wasted seeds doing what I always did I had to change something. I was rewarded with 9 of 10. I was banging my head after my second batch which was why I ordered 10, just in case. I just had a bad year and wasted $130 bucks.

Jiffy pods have always been my go to. I've had 100% for the last four grows. :Namaste:

i would think top of hot water tank could be much warmer than room temp at times.. especially gas..
and most houses thats in the furnace room usually warm places in winter...

Your not alone Scott, my seed from the licenced store only did 50% germination and a bit of a hit to my confidence at starting seeds. My other testers went almost 100%. Seeds need proper storage, age limits, phytosanitary testing, germination rates and lord knows what else. There is human error but $10 + a seed sure leaves room for shady stuff.
