Canada Guy's Medical Fusion Grow

Day 76

Day 17 of flower. All the girls got a drink. Everyone took 4 liters of nutrified water, except Diesel #2, she got none. The girls are really getting higher than expected. The LSD trio is around 24 inches high, and the two diesels are at 18 inches. Diesel #2 is finally reaching up toward the light. I have been picking off yellowing dead lower leaves.

Day 77

Day 18 of flower. The girls are still doing well. It's really really hot here, I'm glad lights are off from 6am to 6pm. Humidity is also around 60% and that will not be good come late flower. At least for now everyone is growing good. I raised the light again. I only have another 12 inches now.

I think you'll be able to fit them in those 12 inches.

With those budlets, they probably only have 3-6" more to grow.

So I will only get 6 more inches of plant height or do u mean including buds? My previous grows the plants were super short like maybe a foot, plus another 6 inches of pure bud. Indoors that is, outside is a whole different ball game lol. I love your cob setup by the way. I hope to go led one day, or just outdoors again.... lol

I just checked the cards on the 7 plants (6 strains) I have harvested this year. to see how much they grew after the buds 'set.'

5 of them, the buds/plants grew less than 2".
1, Lily went 2" taller.
1, Ace Mix (a breeder seed) grew 11" (from 39-50")

So not a single one grew 3-6" more

The one that grew 11" was a breeder seed of an undisclosed, and unreleased strain. With that much growth after buds set, it probably won't ever be released. It's a real outlier of a possibility.

p.s. I haven't noticed buds growing up after they set, except for foxtail bumps. Mostly they fill in down to lower buds and then get fatter.

p.p.s. This is all about indoor growing. I know next to nothing about outdoor growing.

Looking good in there, If I didn't have the scrog, mine would probably look similar, I have a few in the canopy that are unruly but most I have been able to move from square to square to keep a fairly even canopy, the Purple Kush gals I counted 87 bud sites that were above the canopy, 63 on the Widow gals with a few still under the net.

Keeping the light flowing down has helped, I have a lot of skinny stems with flowers that poked up through, I just hope the stems start bulking up!

Day 78

Day 19 of flower. Today in the tent I'm really starting to feel like I'm running out of room, I moved the light up again. Still maintaining a distance of 13 inches from the canopy. LSD #1 is over 28 inches tall now... just two days ago she was 24 inches. I'm not sure if the flowers are set, but if she keeps getting taller I don't know what I will do. The Diesel girls are humming right along still nice and short, like they should be.

LSD #1

This girl has a handful of inches to grow, but you don't have to sweat it. I run 600W HPS and I routinely let them get within a few inches of the light. Here's a pair of photos from 2 days ago.

Before I raised the light, this back light was 1" & 4" away from the 600W HPS.
(The front light, not shown was 14" & 22" away.)

After I raised the light, the back light is now 3" & 6" away from the 600W HPS.

Close to the lights like this, the top buds get more intense light and the bottom buds get more shade (much less intense light.)

I've don't have any hard data to back this up, but it seems to encourage earlier finishing, strong top buds and tiny, weak buds near the bottom.

In this extreme case, the buds at the bottom of the plant will be about 1/4 the size of the buds in your photo at top and not fully developed when the top buds are large, firm, and ready to harvest. Most of the fan leaves will drop off the bottom half of the plant while the top fan leaves stay green. When I am losing fan leaves, I prefer the close distance so as not to lose trichomes on the top leaves to brown leaf tips. I think it gives a slight bump in quality. In the case of browning leaf tips, it preserves the quality.

With the lights 12-18" away, there will be a more even growth between top and bottom buds and a more even loss of top and bottom fan leaves. When fan leaves are staying green, I slightly prefer this 'normal' distance as I get higher yields.

I (until this week) had two HPS. It usually worked out that one light would have a pair of tall girls close to the light whle the other light would have shorter girls grown at a 'normal' distance around 15".

Which is all to say, buds growing close to the lights won't ruin your harvest - it will mostly cause a shift in quality from the lower to the upper buds.

I hope this helps you balance out the needs of your several plants as a few grow taller.

CG, temps in my grow environment for the entire grow has a low of 68 and high of 82, that translates to low of 20 and high of approx 28. So 31 would be a bit higher than my ladies have experienced. Surely though in the short term they should be ok one would think. All I know is that in this final stage, keep and eye on water consumption, for it will increase. They are coming along well.

Well, in all fairness I did not expect 4 and a half inches of growth in 48 hours so they were pretty damn close to the light! Since moving it up again the temps are back to 27-28.

The worst part of this chapter in our journey is not being able to check on the girls at "night". The best I can do is open the tent 5 min before the lights come on, and at that time temps and humidity are nominal. However during the day between 6am and 6pm the ambient outdoor temperature fluctuates wildly.

I got lucky on the stretch. They went from 8 to 24 inches in about 30 days then since then only about an inch each with the buds growing down from the tops and up from the lower nodes on the stems. However I am at my peak light level and my main cola on the lil gal is staying at 11 inches from the light. Most all other tops are remaining at least 12 inches away. And as far as heat goes, here it is the land of perpetual heat. Consistantly reaching the 3 digit temps. I also use the 6pm to 6am schedule to keep the heat issues to a minimum. It takes several hours of lights on to raise the temp more than about 10 degrees f. So the final hour or so is peek temp. Four inches in a night is massive. They love you man.....keep up the green thumb.

Day 79

Day 20 of flower. The ladies are still doing very well, today I removed a bunch of dying lower growth again. Temps are still high, but they will live. LSD #1 and #2 got 4 liters of plain water today. Diesel #2 got 4 liters of nutrified water yesterday. If everyone drinks at different rates this will be difficult to maintain a healthy water/nute schedule. I guess that's why I'm making a journal to track the progress and document the grow. Lol. LSD #1 is still stetching, she is over 30 inches now! 20 days ago she was only 8 inches tall... I even took a picure in portrait mode to prove the end of the tape is really on the dirt LOL.
