Camper2016's First Grow - Candy Cane Auto

Yes the ballast is open on each end....I have the ballast down to 12" from the plants....yeah, I will have to vent it out just don't know where. There's a window maybe 3ft away but it's painted shut...can I just blow it out closet? Small a/c unit....? IDK....??

Maybe I could move it outside? Just thinking...don't really want to because I believe the grow will be better in the concentrated light but I have a garden out back. the sun is out most of the time and it's summer...???

other options are to raise the ballast higher, put in another fan....need to vent it....don't want to get hung up on another $50-100 bucks but I am...trying to wrap my head around where to vent the hot air to....really don't want to cut a hole in the wall....the window is where it needs to go but will create a lot of light leakage and extra work I wasn't counting on...poor me...I am completely open on any suggestions/ideas...

Here are some pics of the closet and back corner of the room....see what you think?? Thanks!!!

What amazin said, pics please. You probably want to get that light up ASAP which should help get the temp down a little until you can figure out ventilation. They will still get plenty of light. One othe idea, get CFLs for now.

See my previous post. You should probably do this ASAP. CFLs will give them the light they need and don't run nearly as hot. Minimum, raise light at least a foot.

Tell me about CFL...what type bulbs, how many bulbs and what kind of set up to use...ballast, plug ins...my knowledge and nomenclature aren't very good here...sorry

Tips for cfls....
You wanna shoot for approximately 50w per sqft. This is the real watts not the equivalent watts.
Use a mix of spectrum/temperature bulbs. Use both 6500k and 2700k. These may also be listed as cool white (6500k) and warm white (2700k)
You can get them in real close to the plants, I mean like 2" close.

Don't be fooled by cfls, people get real good results using cfls, SweetSue used cfls for her 1St grow. Have a flick through the link to see the kind of things you can do with them.
You will still need an exhaust system tho, cfls can produce some heat just not as much as the mh you are running. :passitleft:

OK......will start thinking and mulling this over...well need to set up vent system and see what happens with temps...then make the change if it's not working right...thank you for the feedback.

Here's what I'm thinking....4" duct fan, 4" X 8ft dryer ducting, clamps and duct tape or is silver tape better? All I'm considering right now is venting the heat away from the plants, spilling it out into the room and setting up another fan to dissipate the extra heat...stupid, crazy, not enough...idk?
