Building A Better Soil: Demonstrations & Discussions Of Organic Soil Recipes

You can buy cricket manure by searching ghann Cricketpoo Organic Fertilizer in the web!

I saw them too. But I thought I saw on the manufacturer site (at least I thought it was them) said they were out of stock for the season. I'll have to inquire at ghann to see if that's the case. I'm trying to decide between yum yum mix as my top dress amendment to work along side kelp meal.

I used the aerial tubers only, I crushed them and the blended them, mixed with water and strained the liquid. The pulp went to the worm bin, the juice was used to water the plants

Hey there everyone. I have an aloe plant and would like to make a aloe water for my new seeds. I don't need a lot of water I only have 2 seeds. Anyone know how the fresh aloe to water ratio??

Thanks in advance!!!!

I'm not sure there is a specific ratio Outragedpluto. I looked and couldn't find anything. If you simply scrape some gel and dilute it to something you feel comfortable with it wont hurt the seeds at all if its strong or weak. You're only talking two seeds. I saw a grower recently who just slices the aloe filet and lays the seeds in the gel for 24 hours before planting. He had tremendous success with that method.

I used 1 1/2 inch filet of Aloe to 1 1/2 cups of distilled water. Blended and made sure it was well juiced. Watered both seedlings and my 72 day old auto. All three of the seemed to love it!!!

Thanks for the advice!!!!

Yup! Those are the instructions I will be following!

Got all the stuff today, won't get to the project for a day or two, but I'm really excited! And nervous because I've never sewn anything before. It'll be interesting for sure :)

Another two cents worth.

I saw someone had sewn velcro up the side of the pot instead of stiching, made getting out alot easer.

Haven't seen you in a while!

Yeah I'm not dead yet. Backyard duties have taken up most of my time and the grow box is sitting empty at the moment. The three big girls on the deck are doing well and if anyone is interested Ill post some pickys on my journal if its still around.

That would be me. And It REALLY helps getting the ball out with out screwing it up.

Not the best looking soil, but you can see it makes inspection and removal super easy.

Brilliant Idea, wish I had seen this before sewing up my 11gal pots for the deck.

That soil looks like it has some clay in it. Not necessarily a bad thing.

It does. Native clay. And it's not a bad thing, but might still have a bit much. You should see some earlier mixes...:ban: . I moved this year (west coast to mid-south) and did not have the time to get all the components I want yet to build the soil I want. Nor did I go about 'building' a soil in any sort of manner other than haphazardly. Growing medicine this year was not even considered until about April, and even then it was a side project because I was working on a veggie garden and livestock infrastructure. Now that I have a little time to breathe, I can come back here to 420 Mag to mingle and learn from all the fine minds in this collective, as well as research local sources of EWC, mushroom compost, horse manure, rock phosphate, lava rock and other bulk stuff. I have ID'd many ideal locations for outdoor plants for next year and plan to have the soil mixed, cooked and ready for April/May. 60 gallon equivalent holes. Cola Monster has me all fired up, lol.

This was exciting to read. Big changes for you. I imagine you sing while you work. Would I be right about that? Sorry, it just flashed across my brain and then became words. :laughtwo:

Have you let Cola Monster know of his inspirational impression on your life? I bet he'd enjoy hearing you share that. His posts are one of my weekly highlights, right up there with Graytail's Monday Night Highlights and anything SoilGirl puts up. :laughtwo: She's a younger version of myself, so there's this fascination I feel when I'm standing in the blinding light of her personality that makes me smile. :battingeyelashes:

I keep meaning to tell you, I think you have an excellent eye for the camera. Each grower has a style all their own and your eye in particular seems drawn to some wonderful perspectives.

Yeah, it's been a year of big changes. Last year I was growing RDWC perpetual. This year I'm basically learning all over again in prep for next year. I must say I enjoy the root zone environmental stability planting in ground affords.

Occasionally I will mutter lyrics as I work, not so much of a singer. Especially since I have an unhealthy connection to Rush and could never sing as high as Geddy Lee, lol. I'm more of a whistle while I work.

Nah, haven't told Cola Monster. I do enjoy his posts, as well as every one elses too...including yours. Seeing everybody do their own thing.... develop their own microcosms. It's interesting to me how many ways a plant can be grown.

Well thank you for the nice words. I tend to be a bit different than most, looking at the world a little different. I learned at a young age how to frame a picture (in the eye piece, not a wall hanging). Then in High School I took a couple years of photo, and that eye developed even more. If I had a 35mm SLR (and all the developing equipment) or a really good DSLR I could pull off some better shots, but my little Nikon Coolpix L840 is doing good enough.

And now, thinking about microcosms, I must go put on one of my favorite Rush songs...Natural Science.

Here's my part of building a better soil - starts with the micro organisms in the soil and for us it starts right here with EWC and the Microbulator!! There's some rabbit berries floating in there where the bubbles are.

You can see the organisms on the surface and I haven't even fired it up yet!
