Budz: Mars Hydro FC-E3000, 3x3, Do Si Dos SCROG Grow

SFV Kush broke ground too. 3 up / 3 to go. I did get the Saturn 4 to work the way I wanted. Had to re-read the manual because I thought it said you could use an exhaust fan for cooling. I ran the whole tent all day yesterday & fan & humidifier shut off & came on several times. I think the RH knob on it is off by 10% or my Accurite Temp / Humidity Monitor is... One of the 2 are off. I have to put the Saturn 4 on 80% to get a 70% RH reading on the Accurite. Not sure which is correct; but to play it safe I'll go with what I set the Saturn RH at. So I'll set the Saturn for 65 - 70% which should give me an Accurite reading of 55 - 60% which is good enough for me. The Saturn automatically increases the Humidity by 4 or 5 % above what you set it for before it shuts off & kicks on at 3% under what you set it for. The Exhaust fan works the same way by cooling it 5 degrees lower then what you set it for. These Saturn 4's are quite useful. You can use it as an Intake or Exhaust, Humidifier or Dehumidifier, Night Circulation Fan & Co2 Controller. Got 2 of these in a bin full of equipment for $50. This Bin had over a $1000 worth of equipment so it was a steal of a deal.
Wow how did you find that deal?

Offer Up. I check Offer Up & Craigslist in my area about 5 times per day hunting for stuff like this. If I can use a couple things & sell the rest to get my money back I'm buying it before someone else does. This bin had an 8" & 2 - 6" Vortex Fans, 6 Water Pumps, 2 Air Pumps, Bluelab Truncheon, 2 - Saturn 4's, Lux Meter & several other things. Could not pass that up. I ended up keeping 75% of it.

Yesterday I got lazy & only decarbed my weed. Did 1.5 oz of bud. Right now I have 4 Sticks of Butter, 2 Cups of Water & 1 oz. of weed simmering for the next couple of hours.
I also have an 8 oz. jar of Coconut Oil so working on that at the same time. Instructions I found for this seem weird. It says to boil your water for 2 hours before placing the Mason Jar of Oil & buds in the water. Yet it says when cooking it not to exceed 300 F. I'm not sure what the Boiling Point of Water is so I have to look that up. Tried to use my Laser Thermometer but the batteries are dead & no AAA's left right now.
Next thing to learn after this is how to make the sugar. Coffee with infused sugar. Now that with a joint & a Brownie is a Real Wake N Bake ! May not do nothing all day; but sounds like fun.

Water boils at 212f 100c. Conversion is (1.8 x c) + 32= f

I went & got some batteries. My boiling water is close to 212 right now so I guess I don't have to worry much of it hitting 300 F.
Glad I got the batteries though as I had the temp to low on the butter. It was only at 135 F. Says temps should be 160 - 200 F for butter. Oh well, slow cooking it. Raised the temp & will cook it 1 more hour. That will be 3 hours total.
Looking forward to Brownies & Hash for a bedtime snack tonight.
Looks like the Do - Si - Dos is starting to take off. Already moved all the stakes farther down the branches. I'm thinking net in about a week if it grows that much each day.

Got my Butter & Oil done. Not sure anyone cares, but I'll go through the process I did anyway. First off here are the supplies I use 3 - Pans of Weed (1/2 oz. in each), 1 - lb. Unsalted Butter (4 - Sticks), 8 oz. of Coconut Oil (1-cup), A Grease Splatter Screen & a Cheesecloth. I used the Grease Splatter Screen to lay on top a bowl. Then lay the Cheesecloth over that to strain the finished products. Worked Great !
I set my oven for 240 (still heating in the pic) & decarbed the 3 pans of weed for 40 minutes.

While weed was decarbing I started boiling the water for the Coconut Oil. I put the jar in to make sure it could withstand the boiling water before I added anything to it. Once weed was ready I removed it from the oven. I also used a pair of Tongs to remove the Mason Jar from the Boiling water.

While the Mason Jar was cooling I got the butter ready. I used 2 Cups of water & 4 sticks of butter quartered up. Put the water & butter in a pan on low (about 2) & let the butter start to melt. Once it was 1/2 melted I added 2 of those pans of weed to it.... so 1 oz. I just let this simmer on low for 3 hours; giving it a stir about every 20 minutes.

While the Butter was simmering, I mixed the 8 oz. of Coconut Oil with the other 1/2 oz. of weed in the now cooled Mason Jar. Put the lid on finger tight & dropped it in the water. I let this boil for 3 hours giving the jar a few turns once in a while.

Once it was all done cooking I removed the Mason Jar with Tongs again & set it aside to cool some. While it cooled I strained my butter through the Grease Splatter Screen & Cheesecloth.
Washed up my utensils & repeated the process for draining the oil.

I cover my tins in the oven.
Tin foil steams them instead of drying them.
I make a lot of salve and butter. I use a fine mesh wine making bag. Just lift your plant matter straight out of pot It’s big enough to do 10 pounds at a time. But you can get smaller ones
I always like to see how everyone else does it. Looks great.
Just 2 cents. Enjoy my friend.

5 out of 6 of my seeds sprouted. The Wedding Cake isn't popping. I checked & seed didn't even crack. Sucks, because it's my last seed of that strain & was planning to clone it. I'll probably give it a few more days; but I'm doubting it will germ. I'm going to start 4 more seeds today so I get 9 plants. Considering putting my 10 Bar 800 watt light back in the 5 x 5 & just doing 9 plants in 3 gal. pots. The 3 gal. pots were so easy to manage compared to the 5 gal. pots in the 5 x 5.
I do yield more per plant in 5 gal. but only 5 fit in the 5 x 5 & I've only averaged 6 oz. per plant lately. But in the 3 gal. I'm averaging 3.5 - 4.5 oz. per plant & I can fit 9 plants in the 5 x 5. So slightly more yield. But the easiness of LST on 3 gal. compared to 5 gal. (because of the room each plant takes up) makes a huge difference for me. This is all in theory in my head because I know how my last 2 grows in 5 gal. pots went & not very satisfied with the outcome. I had a couple plants in 3 gal. pots at the same time & the yield was only 1 - 1.5 oz. less per plant. I think I can get comparable yields with 9 plants in 3 gal. to 5 plants in 5 gal. & be able to manage my plants better due to the amount of room each plant would take up. I'm going to give this a shot to see what it's like. Sort of a SOG in 3 gal. pots I guess. Veg about 5 weeks & flip.
If my ceilings were tall enough I'd put my tents on 3' tall platforms just so I don't have to get down on the floor to work on them. I have Scoliosis so it's kind of painful dealing with 5 gal. pots all the time. The 3 gal. made life much easier.
Able to move them easily. So I have to test out my theory & see how it does. On the plus side.... I have 9 plants I can pick & choose clones from.
So I'll get things switched out over the next couple of days so I can move the plants out of the 3 x 3 & get ready to SCROG.

Finally caught up. Lots going on over here and I'm loving that you're still finding those bargain buys. Nice work on the scrog nets, I'll be keeping an eye on how that develops. I'm thinking when I finally flower one of my bonsai mothers it would be cool to do a scrog. Lots of useful info here. Thanks.

OK, let's do a little Do-Si-Dos update. This is where I started this morning. I felt she was too Bushy to LST properly so she got a Haircut.

Those leaves were blocking everything anyway. Afterward, I did my LST to try to get my branches flowing 8 directions.
So far it appears to be working.

I'm not sure when to put up the SCROG Net & let things grow upward so please let me know. Thanks !

I swear this little girl is growing about an inch per day now. Just moved the LST stakes yesterday & branches were laid out straight. Today, they grew out & curled upwards again. I'll wait till tomorrow to re-stake them.

Anyway, I got the Mars Hydro 5 x 5 up & running now. I use a 6 gal. Humidifier for Veg. I'm in AZ. & it's a Hot / Dry Climate so it takes a bigger Humidifier to get 70% RH in a 5 x 5. I only run a 4" exhaust out the window. My Exhaust & Humidifier are controlled by a Saturn 4. The Exhaust only turns on if temps hit 80 F & the Humidifier shuts off when it hits 65% because that's how I set it. I also run a 6" Intake 24/7 on low & an Oscillating Fan. My light is a 10 Bar 800 Watt.
12-29.JPG

I bought this light recently for the even coverage they give. However, they do have their downfalls. The biggest issue is raising & lowering them when you use them in a tent. May not be so bad in a room; but a bitch in a tent. Notice the size of the light & then the little bit of clearance on each side. Have to crawl under the light to the back corner & then come up to get to the rope hanger. I need to find a way to make this fully adjustable from the front of the tent.
Any Ideas ?

Sometime today I'll measure the light height & adjust it. Then I'll use my Lux Meter to get to about 50,000 LUX & raise it to 70,000 by Flower.

I made a mistake above when I said I was starting 6 seeds. I meant 4 more to give me 9 plants total. I started all 9 in 1 gal. pots & will up-pot to 3 gal. when ready. I will start flowering shortly after the up-pot so they will probably be in these 1 gal. pot for a while.

I see no since in wasting electricity in the 3 x 3 until the Do-Si-Dos is ready to SCROG; when there's room for it in the 5 x 5. So I moved it & turned off the 3 x 3 for the time being.

Like my little drain pans... lol ? Found these small wire shelves & cake pans that fit under them perfectly at the dollar store so I bought 12 of each. A 1 gal. pots fits just right.

Your going to have to figure out a pully system. When that tent is full your screwed.
Maby brace the support bar above the light. And attached a little roller pully.
When those girls fill that tent you will never get in there to adjust it.
Otherwise you will have to mount it high as you can and leave it.

My point exactly. I have to take all the plants out of the tent to adjust the light. One of the reasons I decided to do more plants in smaller pots. Easier to move around.
I do need some type of Crank system. I'll do some searching around at Home Depot. Maybe something that works for a retractable awning ?

Dollar store has saved me tons on grow stuff. Plant Trays, Shelves, Trimmers, Plant Clips, The Green Rubber Plant Tie, Plant Stakes & Bamboo Poles, etc. Even the Duct Tape & Zip Ties, extension cords, etc. for when you set your tent up can be bought there way cheaper. I always check there 1st.
I was looking for Parchment Paper on Zon & it was $9 per roll. Dollar store had it for $1. That's a pretty good savings so I bought 5 rolls.
