Bud Washing

Lemon juice is a natural antiseptic. Baking soda is a foaming agent that will help break down grease and oil. Lots of cleaning products use it. I don't know if that's the specific reasoning behind their use for bud washing though. I don't wash my nugs. I don't use anything that I'm concerned about washing off, but I'm interested in seeing/reading about yours and other people's experiences w the process.

Here's a what I do, I run my buds under lukewarm water right from kitchen faucet, then switch to cold water from faucet, I swirl around a bit to get the nook and crannies. I use medium to light strength water pressure, I don't see the need for 3 buckets and added crap, my way works great for me, take a single bud from next harvest and try it, what have you got to lose? Just remember, light pressure, don't want to knock off those precious trichomes. :thanks:

I did a test with a single branch and I agree it speeds up by a day.
Trying to slow this down with as much humidity as I can get in a Canadian winter - lucky if I can get 50%
Looks good, that water is very green tho, I wonder what would happen if you put your water in bubble bags? I do one branch at a time, I thi
K it's gentler on the plant, but I could be wrong, your pics clearly show the benefits of rinsing. And I've noticed a slight improvement in drying time and plumper buds, definitely a good thing to do imho.:goodjob:

One tip for noobs trying this so you don't spill all over like I did. Add baking soda slowly or it will make a mess. I put all water then all lemon juice then dumped the baking soda in which cause instant foam up and over onto floor. Oh well floor is cleaner now ;-)

Add baking soda to the water first, then lemon juice ... less foam ;)

Get yourself Boveda 62 packs and a bunch of airtight jars. Let your branches hang for 24h after washing, then put in jars and add one or 2 Boveda packs .. no need to burp even, tho I love to just stick my nose in there ;) This will keep your humidity at 62. Just leave enough air in the jars.

Yes, when I did the big one baking soda first and no problems.
Allready have boveda 62 57g packs. Put them in 1/2 gallon jar loosely half full of bud and humidity says 83%?
You are saying these boveda packs will bring it down from 83?

Found this thread on boveda packs curing. Asked my questions there

I do not, and would not dry only with Boveda packs. I love my Boveda picks for curing, but I hang dry in my flowering room, which runs at 35-55% humidity.
I also burp during the cure. At least one person on 420 went moldy during the cure with just Boveda 62, although he also packed his jars.

A Boveda can only do so much. I love them, but you can't exceed their limits. You still need to open your packaging and stick your olfactory sensor in them occasionally. The nose knows.

If your Boveda is flat or full it's gonna need to be changed out. You may also find that your supposedly sealed container isn't really, I know I've found a couple that need to go away. I'd collected sealed crockery of various shapes and sizes over the years at garage sales and the like, some are great but some aren't. I've found that I can toss a small Boveda in a jar and if it goes flat over a week or two then that jar isn't sealing well. Pretty handy.

I dropped 3 packs in each 1/3 filled jar, after they had been hanging for almost 48h .. I did tumble them daily. My packs where not the newest anymore, and they are indeed full now .. so I might have gotten lucky :p

Glad to hear you didn't lose any :Namaste: Did you wash those specific buds? Just curious.

Yeah .. washed them and then hung to drip-dry, jarred up, making sure I tumbled them a few times daily to prevent them sticking together too much.

I still use the guideline of putting them in the jars right before the stems will 'snap' when bent. There is obviously a lot of variability, so this is another skillset that you learn through experience. I also give the nuggs a gentle squeeze to assess obviously. Between the squeeze and the stems, I can tell when they are ready to get jarred. I use a drying rack and destem my nuggs during trim. If you're drying whole branches, you will have to adjust which stems and how 'snappy' you let them get. Branches will take longer. I find the net rack gives me a much more even dry.

RO can be subbed with distilled water, or any water that has very low dissolved solids (under 10 PPM) and does not have added content such as chlorine or chloramine. Other instructions about water temps (and others) can be found here;
