Brix! The Quest For Grade AAA Organic Cannabis

What about with really bad tap water with a pH say near 9.2-9.3?

Yea i wondered this as well since i have a super high ph and ppm with my well water also so i went n got an ro water system but its still using well water to make it so it has a higher ppm and ph value still.

The pH of tap water is meaningless. What can get you into trouble is the Total Alkalinity of the water. As long as TA is below 100, you can ignore the water and use it without any issues.

If your TA is between 120 and 150 you'll begin to see bicarbonates in the soil after 3 runs.
TA higher than 200 is not usefull and in this case I suggest RO.

We've gotten way off into the weeds with the concepts of pH and water. Pure RO can be made to have a pH of 2 with a single drop of sulfuric acid. (pH down) or a pH of 9+ with a single drop of sodium hydroxide. In the latter case, the TA of the water is going to be near zero......meaning you could use that water as if it was RO, despite the high pH reading.

Think of a pot of soil as a great big buffer.....which it is. With the minerals we put into that soil in High Brix, the pH is LOCKED at 6.4. Nothing short of a half gallon of acid will change that.

The downside to adjusting pH in bad water is that you're adding massive amounts of phosphorous and/or sodium depending on which way you adjust it. That's actually worse for the plants than just using the bad water.

Get the soil right and you can ignore the water.....provided it's not way, way out of range.

Worst case scenario, just get an RO unit and pay no attention again.

I do a lot of Chem crosses and supposedly they like high salt environments. How do you make that work?
They are indeed what I call "salt lovers." We make that work by strong drenches.....double even triple what's on the bottle directions, and the use of Snake Oil a couple of times in bloom.

BTW, Snake Oil can be used by any gardener. If used as a stand alone product, you'll need to mix with Dextrose, which I can provide.
