Breaking Brix: Buck's DIYs

I kept one male, idk how long I'm going to keep it though.

I'm on 4th node, is it time to start foliars? I think I'm ready to top for 1st time pretty soon.

Top after the 5th node. I stick with straight RO till then. I know coming from nutes you are dying and thinking man I need to feed this plant. But the magic is in the soil. Let it do it's thing. The magic isn't in Doc's nutes. Plus, think about it..you'll uppot to a much larger container so you'll be giving all your plants fresh new micronutrients when you transplant.

Graytail made an awesome post a little while back that I copied into my notes on my laptop that applies here to your question about when to Brix. See his post #2642. I think this will help answer your "when" question on foliars and being an experienced grower you'll know the signs to look for.

And when you do start giving the drenches and foliars I wouldn't go heavy until you see how they react. My BD for instance did NOT like the normal full strength foliar...I had to dial it back to half strength.

Thanks beavis, I'll check that out. I usually top around 4th or 5th node using reg nutes.

Yea I'm itching to give something, just gave 2 a drink of distilled water. Need to get water turned back on and get RO filter. Been buying distilled since I moved my grow last year. Can't wait to finish this light. My last 2 grows have suffered, spend more energy on building stuff instead of paying attention to the gals. But this grow will be 100% on the girls. My other grow is about to finish up.

Buck I seriously think you're about to experience something that's gonna surprise the heck out of you.

For a guy like me with no experience, I have nothing or no history to compare this grow to past grows. You do. You have a lot. So you'll get the chance to really see the difference. I always enjoy seeing experienced growers react to Doc's kit.

Be sure to read Graytail's post. Chock full of info. He said to start foliar when that new fresh lime green looking new growth is pushing out and the older growth is a little darker. I'm sure you know the signs. That's when you start the Brix foliar.

Couple random tips:

Also, it's always a good rule of thumb to spray destress after a topping or after any trimming/thinning. Don't do destress and Brix foliars on teh same day..always a couple days apart and you can do both in the same week.

Always wait 48 hours to Brix foliar after a drench..you want the plant to soak up the drench before you zap it with foliar too.

Much appreciated beavis, I've read some of doc's journals when I 1st joined this site. I used to not be much into organic gardening. But all you guys have the best looking plants around. Just the frostiness, I've never really had any plants spit the sugar out like that. And shiggs, he's on another level when it comes to frost, he's killing it. I can't wait till these take off, it feels like it's my 1st grow again, kid at Christmas.

I think part of the big key is strains. You're doing right too with Dynasty. I'll be honest...I wish I could replace the BD with another strain of choice. I'd probably pick Huck Kush. It's just that I wanted to do BD for decades and it was just gonna be the first grow, no question. Well now that that is out of the way I want to get serious about the strains I grow.

Shiggs and I have had some great strain discussions. I LOVE to tap his brain. He (and I agree) thinks so many US growers have been accustomed to buying seeds from the European seed banks and still do. But the fire strains and cutting edge breeding stuff is going on here in the US since legalization. The European breeders got fat and lazy and sat back and milked the same tired strains for 30-40 years. Not that they weren't good but they have just been around forever. All the new breeding is going on here.

Blue dream is one of those that has been around forever but I want to try these new strains. I've never tried the cookie stuff or GSC or GG4 or Dosido or Gelato or the breaths. I also want to try some of the old school indica landraces.

Shiggs has educated me about the vigor of regulars. And now with Phylos, I feel like regulars are a direction I can go. But I'm a big believer in Dynasty. I want to run through many of his beans. Dynasty, Bodhi, and InHouse are going to be where my main focus is.

So long story (lol I'm high), I think it's Shiggs growin skills plus his strain selections that are making the frost.

I've been reading about the BOG seeds too. After seeing shiggs, I'm ordering the sour bubble and couple others. Just wish I could grow more at once lol. Gotta keep electric down around $120 a month. Need to go solar

I'm with ya beavis, past 2 years is first time using store seeds, always had my own, outside. Had to get couple out of way also. Seems like the regs are way to go, especially since can get tested. I'm looking forward to the huck kush, looks great.

I've never tried any of the name strains unless I can grow them. Heard people talking about all the great ones, but couldn't get any to try.

Yeah I so wish I had a dank indica like a Pre Bubba or Skywalker or Huckleberry about to harvest right now. The BD is really more of a sativa leaning hybrid and I got lucky with the indica pheno. I wouldn't even pick a sativa hybrid right now.

BOG is good. They are also on my radar. Doc has grown their stuff too and it does great in the kit.

Everything is looking excellent buck! I love the gasket for the wires on the frame. Was wondering how i was going to secure the wire. Ill just use the nylon glands! Thanks!

Yea bedroom, I picked up the rubber grommets at harbor freight for couple bucks. Cheap and easy to use, that's why I use 1" angle instead of 3/4. Just a little more room to drill bigger holes.

Here's the cherry vanilla

Her leaves were standing straight up with light on, these pics are 30mins after lights out. She's on her 5th node, going to top soon.

Only gave distilled water

Here's the flower tent, these are about to start their flush, just flawless finish the rest of way. I gave them stout mix of nutes yesterday and burned some more leaves. A white cookie fell over, had too stake up, getting heavy

. Overall looks like it's going to be decent yield, didn't do much training, just topped few times. Should be ready in next 2-3 weeks

What lamps are you running in your veg tent?

Thinking of setting up a small veg/clone space, maybe 2x2, with a couple of cree 4000K and running at probably no more than 50w

I'm going to build a new veg light, as soon as I get the room added on, later this year. Currently I'm using a clw ss550 with controller. I just adjusted my light for veg, had it turned down for seedlings. Red-50, white-50, blue-99

. This a great fixture, best veg spectrum I've tried. Will cover 5x5 or 6x6 in veg, 4x3 in flower.

I'm going to get some of the 5000k sun boards, shiggs has some running in 4K temps. For the price, best board out there, and they are set up with 36v fV, very easy to match with drivers. I believe these would be cheapest on electricity to run 18hrs a day.

Those Cree's are great too, check on the 5000k. Or maybe 1 6500k and 1 4000k, mix em up. You won't need much reds. Those citi blue cobs look pretty cool too, and the price is good. There's so much quality stuff out now, it's hard to make a decision lol

They look so damn thick!!! And the new girls are dark green and healthy. It's a really great op you have going. I know because when I look I get excited!!!

Thanks shiggs, I took clones off of the picky ones from last grow. I don't know if I have some deficiencies or all the mite spray lol. But some of the leaves are spotty. But the buds are filling out great, hard and dense. The lower stuff looks awesome, very sugary, idk why lower stuff looks frostier than the tops. Unless it's heat, tent has been running 82-84 degrees, going to drop it down these last few weeks. Some of the colas are as big as my arm, cali og.

The CVC is going to be big plant, it's a faster grower than the hucks. I think this is 1st time I've had great soil indoors, I haven't given anything from kit yet. Going to top cvc very soon and give de-stress, then start the kit. Duggan said he will help me through this 1st run. I'm so lucky I got you guys to ask for help and advice, takes the worrying away lol. Just seems like a different approach than what I've been doing.

Just want to thank you again shiggs for turning me on to these great genetics. I've been getting seeds only from CKS, they have some good strains, but nothing like what I have now. I ordered some more seeds yesterday, sour bubble, sour grape, and blue moon rocks from BOG. They seem like great people, I want the same pheno of your sour bubble lol. That was best looking nuggs I've seen in a while. Seems like BOG's genetics are all fast flowering too. Can't wait to try the rest of dynasty's too, especially the pineapple fields and huckleberry des tar. I spent too much on seeds lately, BAS is a serious condition, need to talk to my therapist about it.

Thanks SHIGGS
