I only see an eye icon next to those forums on which I have enabled emails in Watched Threads. When I hover over the icon it says Thread Watched. There is nothing in the list that refers to Watch Forum.
@AKgramma
can you screenshot what the screen looks like.
When I navigate to the Grow Joirnals>Journals in progress page, at the very top of the list, on the right hand side, there is a watch button.

So so this is just browsing to the forums pages, yes? Not via a ‘list’.

ill try to screenshot what I mean when I’m on my desktop later.
:Namaste:

When I click on your forum, I end up at the usual place in your forum, with only an option to watch or unwatch Thread. I already have each forum Watched with emails. So I'm not seeing ANYTHING that lets me Watch Forum. Just Watch Thread.

* I thought that I might have better luck trying to use the Watched Forum option in the 420 Forums tab, but it seems to be a dead option. No way to add a Forum to that list.

Without email access to the people I used to talk weed with, I am losing the passion for this hobby. I may very well give it up and leave 420, as much as I used to enjoy the community. No easy access to community, no inspiration to continue.
.

I understand the Frustration, Its Hard to keep going when the ENGINE is not running correctly.
But we all seem to love this place and the community. Like real life sometimes the table gets knocked over
so we just have to reorganize "ITS A DAY TO DAY THING"

Also I can relate to the MONUMENTAL TASK the guys & gals behind the curtain are up against.
I am actually in the process of UPDATING my COMPUTER complete swap to a WINDOWS 10
O.S. this is only a SIMPLE SWAP but its a pain in the ass, Finding Old passwords to restart programs,
finding old DRIVERS, figuring out the New Operating system, Updating / importing All the Links
Making sure all the BookMarks work I COULD GO on.....

I truly hope you give it a little longer, I suspect this will all be fixed very soon, It takes more than
this to keep ME AWAY :) keep up the good fight my friend it will be better in the end I am sure

Can anyone explain the benefit or function of "following" someone? I have done that to several people and to date have seen nothing more than the normal post/ alerts/ likes that I would see anyway.
Following is standard on all social networking like Facebook, Instagram, etc. It's like subscribing to a thread, but subscribing to a member instead. Mentors have followers, apprentices need to follow their mentors, popular members have fans, that's just the way it works. I think it's an improvement personally, especially if you are used to following one person on all of their threads, but have to sift through the chit chat from everyone else, this makes it more direct and personal. There must be a way to block them, we just haven't figured it out yet. That will help those not wanting someone to follow them, plain and simple. Once we get through all these bugs and performance issues, then we can start focusing on the lessons. Meanwhile, @Ian Bastage & @Amy Gardner have been hard at work on new tutorials for you, this is a great question for them.

Thanks, other than what @Amy Gardner mentioned about showing them online, I haven't noticed "following" do anything. Personally I would like it to show me if they start a new thread. I can't tell you how many times I have been late to a thread because I didn't know it existed.

If you click on “what’s new” then “your news feed” you can see that stuff and more from people you follow.

@420 Rob, is it possible to set it up so peopl have the option to be emailed for every single post or just a digest/once a day kind of thing. The people having the most despair with this seem to be those who rely on every post coming in email, which you noted above not everybody likes. But some rely on it it seems so maybe there’s a way the devs can set it up so the choice can be more specific.
Just an idea.

I would like a digest version of the posts. Other listserves I am on have that option, each post or digest, and it is very handy, IF this program has such a feature.

Now THAT works the best! TY!

email for every Post in a thread which doesn't exist anymore

I don’t know that we know that yet Chris... maybe I’m wrong but I think that’s what Rob is investigating with the devs today... he just said there was no where in the back end where he could add those options as options. It’s still not clear whether the function is supposed to email for every post or not

Well THAT explains it. Someone finally admitted that the email service doesn't exist anymore as we knew it.

I'll stop looking for email, and see if I can live with just visiting the forums one by one, as time permits.
It’s not a known thing yet - so I don’t think there’s any admitting or not admitting anything going on. It’s not like Rob is all knowing and omnipotent within the site software and trying to hide things from anyone! Rob is one guy with a team who have been bustin it to get the new site functioning and are now directly investigating this problem. Things happened in the migration that weren’t expected and that’s one of them. Maybe the feature doesn’t exist that way it did - or maybe it got broken in the switch over. I don’t think they know the answer to that yet.

@420 Rob, FWIW:
I chose to watch this thread with emails this morning. I got three emails in the first 10 minutes (while I was still on site). And then not another one until an hour later when I came back to the site - so it missed about 8 posts in that time. And yes I did visit the thread just before the newer ones dropped in.

So it seems that the theory of Overlord’s is correct. And that seems not quite right to me. I mean - if I’m viewing the thread, then I don’t need emails do I? It’s the periods when I’m not viewing the thread that the emails are most important (for someone who wants them - which I’m not saying I do! I’m doing this to try to help solve the problem).

Here’s a screen shot of my emails received - there is a one hour gap (when I was not on my device) when no emails came in, but there were definitely posts on this thread during that time. (The times are eastern Australia time - so GMT+11)

Tutorials are working again, sorry for the down time.

Ian & Amy have more on the way for you soon.

Thanks I post them to the new guys a lot.(mostly the photo tutorial)

For whoever it was saying people following them creeped them out...

Click on your username at top, then Preferences > Privacy > Allow users to… Receive your news feed:
Drop Down Menu: Members only, People you follow or Nobody

Although it might get a little lonely if you do, you now have the choice. :)

As Mr 420 points out, you can go dark if you wish. While we really encourage the camaraderie that this site is known for, we also realize that some posters might want to be invisible. Your personal settings will let you do that. We will have a tutorial shortly. In the meantime . . .

Here are the default Privacy settings for a member.

You can change any settings you wish but tread carefully because it will affect how other members interact with you. Setting Receive your news feed to nobody will shut down any notification about your posting activity.

For whoever it was saying people following them creeped them out...
Hi - that was me, except I said I was trying not to be creeped out by it!

I don’t need to go dark (although I have now - thanks @Ian Bastage - set all those privacy options to ‘members only’ - which feels better. I did notice there’s not an option for managing who follows you...).

I guess I just question the way the following works. I can’t see who is following me apart from the notification I get when they first do so. So unless I keep a list of those notices somewhere - I don’t really know.

ON other sites and social networks, when individuals follow or ‘friend’ each other it is through an exchange process. The old 420 friends system was like that too. I guess i find it uncomfortable that this exchange aspect has disappeared and now “Following” has really got nothing to do with the contacts or connections we make with each other. SO it’s not a real substitute for the “Friend” system - rather a way to follow people regardles of whether you’ve had any contact with them or not.
we really encourage the camaraderie that this site is known for,
See, I think it’d be more about camraderie if the following were a mutual exchange.

It doesn’t feel ‘community’ enhancing to me as it currently works - just a way of tracking another member. I didn’t do much with the old friend system, but I liked that you had a choice to accept a friend request or not.

It’s just one of the changes that I’m having to work to adjust to, mentally, that’s all.

This is not a request to do anything about it - I realise there’re many things highter up the priority list. I just had to respond to what Rob thought I’d said - which wasn’t quite what I’d said ;). And to clarify why the new system doesn’t feel as comfortable to me as the old one. I’ll get used to it ...:surf:
