If mobile users aren't given the option to escape the mobile view- so be it. But in this one regard the switch is really a step backward for me personally. I hope you don't think this is mindless complaining or some 'failure to adapt'. It's not. It's input.

*Duuuuude, from a technical perspective, the way the process works is. You create a hub first, which is the website, work out the kinks, then you customize and build the phone app based on the website, it's not the other way around. You're not letting the hub be created first, you're just early to the party, the DJ's not even here yet.

*Please wait for the mother plant to grow before you take clones from it. That's it. You don't want to take clones from an incomplete mother, you wait till she's a good as she's gonna get. Once they get to this milestone, then phone apps can be made, thus working out the bugs here first, then hopefully avoiding them when the app is made. Because you don't want people complaining when the app is made PREMATURELY.

*Honestly, t's just a process man, just wait in the bleachers like the other spectators and enjoy the view for now. This is history in the making and not a step backward. You just don't know how these projects work, can't blame you, just want to educate you. They would have double the work to update a brand new website AND a phone app. Why duplicate your frustration when they can "get it right" here first. They are doing it the logical way, not the personal way. Hope that helps explain a technical timeline of this magnitude.

*Personally, Ask not what 420 magazine can do for you...but what you can do for 420 magazine.

* Adjust, adapt and move on, like we do everyday in our journals. It's no different, hope that helps.

:)

@420 and others,
I can confirm for you that thumbnail generation in the gallery seems all good, as far as I can tell. Very occasionally it took a few extra seconds to load the page of thumbnails but that’s all.

In addition images on thread pages are consistently loading much much much faster, so thread pages with lots and lots and lots of beautiful images (which, lets face it has to be at least 50% of the reason many of us are here - to ogle at each other’s gardens) are much more efficient... smooth even...

This was a message that was sent to me by Weaselcracker. I have not replied because it's just words on a screen. But I would like to say here...Do not come after me when I'm trying to teach you something...bow out gracefully and keep our messages out in the open.

Wow I'm not sure what that post was about G2. Maybe you need to read my posts over.

I was just pointing out that it would be good to have a desktop style view available to mobile. Since that concept didn't seem to make sense to Rob because apparently he doesn't have a phone- I was just attempting to clarify the actual issue.

I'm trying to escape this conversation before the quicksand deepens- as it often does if anyone asks questions and doesn't gush over Rob enthusiastically like you've been doing.

. I appreciate your enthusiasm and I feel like I honestly like you a lot- I can tell you're a sweet person- so I hope I'm not pissing you off right now. But I did not need the lecture as I am a fellow 420 fan and have been for a years before you came along, and I can grasp concepts like change and incremental progress. That's why I brought the input.

I'm sure I'm not the only person viewing the site from a mobile phone.

Do you have a mobile and a computer? Perhaps you can post screenshots of the two different views. Please? That would be much more useful than blindly lecturing me.
I'm not the enemy. Just a usernamd lover of the forum giving some input. :thanks:

I don't have a phone? Actually I'm using an iPhone X right now and have every iPhone before it.

Gush over me, seriously? Why are you being so immature and passive aggressive man?

We're here in the open, nobody has a gun to their head, call me out, what's up?

I looked at the desktop view on my phone along with 3 other developers, we all agreed it would either take pinching and zooming to navigate, which is a decade old technology, or use a microscope to see the text, links, drop downs, etc. Maybe you are seeing something we are not, we need to understand what you are seeing, before we can make any decisions.

We can add the desktop view if we want, but until someone sells us on why, we'd like to avoid the confusion it causes by having the option. People would click on it and then not know how to get back. For example, when one of our developers gave me access to the desktop view on mobile yesterday, I've been stuck in it ever since and can't get out yet. It's just not something we want to mess with, unless absolutely necessary.

What do we think about starting a thread that can coach the confused members on how to work around the new site? Maybe have it posted on the home page rob? As a link.... sorry is this isnt the brainstorming place but I feel I could help lure back in our app users that have been too tentative otherwise. Maybe we can post @Chris Scorpio and Amy's helpful tutorials for people like me who had never had to "upload pictures to the gallery".
Maybe briefly explain watched threads and where we are as far as working everything out. Just a thought and it may be easier to attack it together.

Thank you for your support Grow2HealMe, I am truly grateful.

In all honesty though, I think it would be better for them to dive in and start getting over the fear of evolving, instead of sitting on the sidelines. What good would it do them sitting there for a month, if in the end we never active desktop view?

Every time a new phone came out, what a learning curve it was. Felt like the dumbest guy on the planet. But after a day or two, it was awesome and I was never happier for the positive changes and added features. The same logic applies here. Let's all communicate like mature adults and work together to get there.

... in case anybody popping in here hasn’t heard this tip yet, regardless of whether you’re Phone is in desktop request mode or not, if you turn the phone to landscape view, a few more features pop up, like top of the page nav. and signatures.

For me - I’ve been switching between an iPhone SE, an iPad Air, and a desktop (Mac mini from 2010 running HIgh Sierra) and on the phone (in it’s optimised for mobile view, forced or not) I can access all the features I can access on the website. The pathways to them might be different, and a few of us are working on a tutorial on this navaigation, but so far there’s nothing I can do on the my desktop website that I can’t do on my phone.

The iPad is my fave so far - the image rendering is superb :welldone:

I like the idea - we’ll see how the others weigh in, eh?

FWIW - i did a quick n dirty tut for image uploads a few pages back ... BUT - the official one is up to date now.
Photo Gallery Guide - How to Resize, Upload & Post Photos
Ian Bastage made that one. And he & I are collaborating on some others.

That thread you suggest could be an invaluable resource for that proces actually... :thumb:

We would get to find out where problems arise as well as collate tips and tricks from folks who keenly figure stuff out!

That's a great idea, something we've been working toward for the last few days.

Ian & Amy have been working on some amazing tutorials for you guys, which will be posted publicly within the next day or two. To preserve everyone's links, we will be editing in the new tutorials, into the existing threads from the old site. Once ready, they will post links to each one here.

Here is a link to the Member Resources where the tutorials are going

Here is a link to the new thread for you all to discuss tips and tricks.

I think that's a great idea TMD & Amy. IF you were to do it that way, it would be easy for me to copy and paste those important steps into peoples' journals when I check in on them. I think some old fashioned knock on the door of some journals might coax some people out. I'm kinda doing that already, but it will take time. :) So count me in guys and gals.

Two green thumbs up...:thumb:

Hope I found the right place for this post:
Something I have noticed and I feel others might get confused on is the tabs under "GALLERY" more specifically the media links. I think maybe instead of " your Media" " your albums" if it was changed to " My Media" " My Gallery" this way when members are looking for their photos it pops out a little more for them.

The phoneview is simply a different stylesheet all the features seem to be the same just accessed slightly differently. Calling it “Gallery” in one view and “Media” in another is overly confusing though.

Personally I think the new site is great, but what do I know. I do wish could upload images right from the posting page though.

Hi is the app down? And can you advice me on when it might be back up and running as I pretty much can’t post without app please resolve issues thanks

I think it's an excellent idea Dabber. This thread was for reports of glitches and bugs. An ongoing open tutorial might be just the ticket.

Our frayed edges are showing. :hugs: Let's put together that thread Dabber was suggesting and slow this conversation down.

Many of us, although we maneuver our way around, lack the technical savvy that brings insight into this process. It's helpful if we all remember that and communicate with the same loving tone we typically use in our virtual neighborhood.

We'll get this figured out guys. Let's be kind along the way.

The app is gone. You'll need to use the browser on your device instead. All the functionality is there. Instructions are earlier in this thread.

If someone else hasn't started a tutorial thread for the new platform by the time I get back from the movies (going to see Black Panther :yahoo: ) I'll start it then. :battingeyelashes:

Still here- was reading back through the posts from earlier today.

No questions in that post - just trying to clarify the mobile view/l vs desktop view issue.
Hopefully it's clear.

Unsubbing for the reasons I stated and it seems like we've come to the answer to the original question - at least for now.
I'll check back in- just don't need to muddy the waters further at this point.

@Weaselcracker I hope you're still here again. You and GrizzWald and possibly others seem to be seeing on your phone something that I suspect 420 Magazine never intended. My understanding is web page is supposed to be scaleable to the viewing device - desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile phone.

What I see on an Iphone 6 is the same robust site that I see on my laptop. I see mostly the same thing with the 3 browser installed on my phone. Menus slightly different visually.

Granted I have high speed cable internet with WIFI. But my point is, there must be something about the mobile phone of the users who don't see. That's the reason @420 wants and needs a screenshot and the information addressed in his post.

I might also suggest attempting to find a like-minded individual with a mobile device and see what 420 Magazine looks like in his/her phone's browser.

I don't like using my iPhone to access any website. This is the first, and hopefully last time I'll do so. This site displays much like it does on my desktop. This sucks due to my aging eyes, and fat fingers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The above was posted using my iPhone 5s, and Safari, and edited on my desktop. I don't use my iPhone to 'stay connected.'

I have no need for this anymore, so without further ado I'm passing it on to our administrators:
