Man I sort of hate to even raise the subject now- but since I was the first one to ask about the lack of 'desktop mode' I'll mention it for the last time to hopefully clarify.
My question all along has been focussed around 'do we still get to have a desktop mode when using a mobile- and if so- how?' Is it a complaint? Not so much- it's input. As requested at the beginning of the thread.
It appears like we've finally come to the conclusion that - no we as mobile users do not get this choice. I do hope that changes.
The enforced switch to a mobile view mode was and continues to be a drastic and unwelcome change. I'm suddenly stuck with this simplified 'mini- view' of everything and am completely missing all kinds of features.
All the other changes are pretty much all good and I'm impressed and commend you on your hard work and have had positive things to say about this all along. Very good job.
But the
main event here as a mobile user is Not all those positive changes. The main event is simply that I've been squashed into 'mobile view'. It's a similar mode to the 420 app- which I didn't like and didn't use.
I had the chance to look at the forum on a laptop today, also using Chrome, and it looks very much like the forum used to look. There are changes for the new format of course- but overall it's quite similar to the way it's always been. And it's this view that I see on the computer- this is what I mean by 'desktop mode'.
I don't know what the comment was about 'pinching and zooming'. I don't even know what that means.
The view I get on the phone is simply a foreshortened version of the site. It's fast and easy -but not everyone wants fast and easy. Some of us want full features. I expect you'd be one of them
There seems to be needless confusion and back and forth here about what mobile viewers are seeing. Maybe it would be good if there was a 420 staff mobile phone or two laying around -since it is an important aspect of the site.
If mobile users aren't given the option to escape the mobile view- so be it. But in this one regard the switch is really a step backward for me personally. I hope you don't think this is mindless complaining or some 'failure to adapt'. It's not. It's input.
Anyway- enough said and I'll unsubscribe now to give you that extra space to work on more important issues. Peace.
