Glad you got your environment the way you want it Doc. I'm struggling with the same issue, so I empathize. It's terribly stressful to know the environment is out of wack. After making a change, you then have to sit nervously and wait! :bitingnails:

So I need to get an RO system, because when I tested my pH it was around 12. Do you guys think this system will work for me and bring the pH down to acceptable levels?

OMG :yikes: that ph is too high.
I know the others have said as much, but it can't help to reinforce the message. If you don't lower that, it WILL kill your plants quick.

With ph that high, an RO system will almost certainly help. One bit of advice I would offer is to make sure the system has multiple stages and that the first couple stages are cheap to replace. I don't know the ppm of your water, but you're gonna be pulling a lot of something out of there. I'd be worried about anything that caustic damaging the RO membranes, so make sure there are some filters before the membrane. I'm sure the model linked above is great, but I got mine form the filter guys. Researching RO systems was getting a little overwhelming. These guys were pretty highly recommended, so I just called them and asked for their advice. I talked to Jim, and he is a cool guy. He has lots of growers as customers, so he was able to give me great advice. I placed my order on the spot. ~$150 for the system and the float valve shipped. Not too bad.

Thanks, ya, I'm not sure it was 12 as I was using the litmus pH testing strips. But I used 64 drops of pH down before I was even under 7.0 and could see any changes. I just ordered a digital pH, so now I'm just waiting on that. I appreciate the assistance and I'll give the filter guys a call soon. Don't worry, no plants were harmed so far as I'm trying to get everything in order before putting any plants thru my environment. :high-five:

Good plan! :thumb:

You won't regret knowing the ph. Make sure to get calibration solution too and check it often. I check mine every other res change, so roughly every other week or so. Sometimes it's fine. Other times it's off by .1 or .2. Then there was that one time it was off by a LOT! Check it often, especially when you think it can't possibly be that high or low.

Careful til you get an accurate reading, a Ph of twelve would burn your skin!

I'm excited too. I've never done anything like this. This will be my first outdoor season.

Someone was so impressed with my little monster they decided to put me in charge of an acre of land and 12 outdoor plants. All expenses paid!

Fun! :high-five:
