Bio char

This Thread Just kinda morphed into the different topics I myself aren't to worried about the thread title I like to hear myself talk 😂 but I do have a regular organic thread among the other 10,000 on there so I'm good with the small group attending this thread I've already learned a few different things from you do folks 👍 GOOD STUFF! I guess a sustainability thread would work maybe I'll do that Good idea 💡!

A more accurate thread title would bring participation from those interested in the other topics but not so much about biochar. I use biochar in my grows but it's not a very popular amendment and not too many growers even know what it is.

Your right about that, your ideas?

More descriptive words in the title will have the thread come up in more member searches as well as the "Similar threads" suggestions at the bottom of each page. I often look at the suggestions as I'm surfing around.

I changed the name of my KNF thread when I started doing Jadam to make it a more accurate description of what readers could expect.
But, it's just a suggestion. It's your thread, do with it what you will. :Namaste:

Thanks man,I'm kinda computer illiterate so I do the best I can on here I'm here for a few reasons I want to learn new techniques,I want to help teach those who don't know and I want to help get the organic practice off the ground to help Mother Earth I'm concerned about our kids and grandkids and great grand childrens environment and I don't even have kids I know Farmers weather it's plants or livestock play a big part in climate change as well as the average folks like my better 1/2 & myself,so we try to do everything we can to mitigate or carbon footprint 👣 and if I can help someone save a few $'s and help make them healthier and help save the planet so my gals Grand kids can go hunting and fishing and have a safe and fun experience without worrying about getting sick or cancer or something that's my motivation!

I do have one suggestion for you though.

Hit the return key every once in a while. Your wall of words can be a slog to get through and on longer posts I just skip them until I have time to circle back. ;)

I am working on some as we speak!!
Cool. I've got a gallon paint can filled with twigs I need to process. May do it this weekend! I don't need (and really can't use) the standard 30 gallon retort production that we often see recommended.

Everything in my grow needs to be scaled way down. I only need about 1L of char each time I mix a batch of my mix.

Thanks I need all the help I can get when it comes to the computer stuff I'm good if say the power goes out or it's Marital law or something 😁

AQUAMAT
The Aquamat capillary mats are the highest quality mats that Sustainable Village offers. These mats are completely composed, and ready to integrate with Blumat Systems.

These mats are made up of five components in four distinct layers.

1) ALGAE & ROOT-RESISTANT FOIL COVERING
This black, perforated material prevents algae and other unwanted biologicals from penetrating into the mat. Contrary to popular belief, this material WILL stop roots from penetrating the mat! This makes the mats incredibly easy to clean, and moving plants is never stressful–for you, or for the plant!

2) BLUSOAK DRIP TAPE (NOT PICTURED)
We replace the black drip tape that is embedded in each mat (pictured) with our BluSoak drip tape (a Guide to this tape is linked below). The BluSoak drip tape works ideally with Surface and other Tropf Blumat sensors. The tape is ideal as it does not have a minimum pressure requirement to function. However, the tape does do best between 2-4PSI, which is generally best achieved with a pressurized system (as opposed to a gravity feed).

This tape distributes moisture as it is emitted from the Surface Blumat. The tape emits the moisture into the capillary material below.

3) EVAPORATION BLOCK LAYER
This layer prevents salt or other fertilizer build up in the capillary material itself. It also prevents excess evaporation from occurring, and helps to prevent excessively high humidity. This reduces the burden on dehumidifiers, air conditioning appliances, and other temperature/humidity control infrastructure.

4) SUPER-ABSORBENT CAPILLARY MAT
This material does the actual “work” in these systems. This material is extremely absorbent of water and nutrient solution. It is so absorbent that it evenly emits the moisture throughout the capillary material, ensuring there are no overly wet/dry pockets.

5) CONTAINMENT BARRIER
This a completely waterproof material that prevents all run-off from the cap mat, and prevents unwanted biologicals from growing into/through the bottom of the mat.

Oooppppsss😬 a little too MUCH of a good thing!

Vermiponics? Any of the worm farmers here heard of that? I just read an interesting article on vermiponics it's kinda like aquaponics but with worms in a flood and drain system sounded interesting and well I can see where that would work I'm part or the WFA Worm Farmer's Alliance. Check out this if you're big in vermicast

When it comes to sustainable fertilizer options, flies aren’t quick to come to mind. But the truth is, a black soldier fly composting system is one of the quickest, most convenient ways to break down food scraps to turn them into something useful.

As with all forms of composting, the goal of a black soldier fly composting system is to turn waste material into something valuable.

Instead of fertilizer, you’re creating a stellar food supply for backyard livestock.

this system, a harmless fly chews through your manure, meat, and food scraps, transforming them into fat grubs that chickens love to snack on. This is an excellent way to use up animal carcasses and other pungent material that takes months or longer to break down through traditional composting.

If you have chickens or a large garden, you’re doing yourself a disservice not to consider setting up this composter. Learn here why you need a black soldier fly composting system and what it takes to set up your own.

I may have heard of the term vermiponics but I know nothing about it. But my 2 worm farms just sit there without me doing a lot, plus I have thousands of worms in my compost bins. I am probably not going to go further with worms unless there is some unique benefit from doing so.

The soldier fly composting sound interesting. Altho I am probably more likely to investigate setting up a small 'meal worm' farm as food for my chickens, as long as farming meal worms is a fairly straight forward viable to do.

I'm on the fence I might try both the one thing for the black soldier fly it can process my chicken wastes more effective than the worms without killing them. I got to figure out a way before summer gets here and my pollets go outside
When we move back to the country that problem will be solved this City living STINKS!! I moved here to help my better half caregive her 97 y/o mom whom which has since passed now I'm stuck in the city because of interest rates and lower house values for now.....The things we do for the ppl we love!

You realize your own mortality when you live with a person that old and has been through some of the things she has. Boy her mom was and old Dutch women from The Netherlands She came here after the second ww and Hitler's occupation of the Netherlands boy did she have some stories. Her dad was abducted by the Nazis and forced to work slave labor in Poland he walked all the way back to the Netherlands after they were liberated quite the family history
