Bio char

@Hayron1088 here's how I screen my castings some folks here have a better more efficient way but this is how I do it for now the square one is a 1/8" metal screen and the store bought round is 1/4" If they are to damp to screen through the 1/8" screen make sure all the worms are back home and let it sit out till it'll screen what's left over in the that won't go through I put back in the bin Id rather have my cacoons in the bin they have more of a chance to hatch there are certain conditions where cacoons can hatch it's hard to keep that in a container or a bed that's all I'm saying

You know if you got like soaker hoses and a good layer of wood chips on your soil worms and cacoons are ok I used to mulch like to that but I get lazy sometimes lol so I don't always keep a sufficient mulch layer down that's why I prefer to put my worms and cacoons back in the bin I don't want anyone thinking I'm dissing the way they do it!✌️

I use Uncle Jim’s also. Haven’t had a problem yet but they are local for me so maybe that’s why.
Probably but I gotta say I love in Michigan and you guys are in Pennsylvania and memes is in Georgia and memes worm arrived alive and healthy just this winter and Uncle Jim I ordered 3 different times and all 3 times they were DOA the way they were pkged was the difference meme had put shredded cardboard in the box and the worms in a bag where as Uncle Jim was jus a bag and a box and the cold just got to them

@Stunger well I tried the fermented pollet food and well it smelled ok looked ok but my chicks put their nose up at it so I guess I'll wait and try it later with the full grain the site said pollet food was ok to but the chicks rejected it maybe because I feed them a medicated food I'll try again later when they get bigger ✌️

And sorry… I feel responsible for changing your thread topic…
@Hayron1088 I'm here cause I'm bored and because I like to see how others do things plus I'd like to spread the word on climate change and this is the only site I talk on I DON'T do Facebook Twitter or any other social media I think there's too MUCH well let's just call it what is ,..... Bullshit and pot stirring on those sites for me! So you can talk about any growing subject or ask anything about growing on this thread and I'm sure we can get you the answer I'm good with it👍

Hi SOG, I am using a 'scratch n lay' medley of grains which I ferment for 3 or 4 days. My chickens appear to love them. But in your situation, you are not fermenting grains, but is it pellets or a crumble?

Pellets or crumble is going to form more of a mash when wet/fermented and the birds may not recognise it as food. Let me relate a recent event when we got a massive amount of rainfall. A friend who is a beekeeper and also keeps Quail. He feeds his Quail 'crumble', which got all wet in the flooding, so he decided to ferment it, however then the birds wouldn't eat it, they didn't recognise it as their food. So he put a layer of their normal dry crumble over top and once they started getting some unintentionally, they then ate it all.

That's a good idea thanks I'm going to try that ! bee's to huh I've been thinking about that as well I've been researching Honey bees but I was going to start out with some Mason bees first just for pollenation to see how it goes and grow from there I live in town for now so I have to be careful these ppl around here will turn me in in a heartbeat if I had bees swarming their pools I live in a neighborhood where these ppl all have in ground pools and get new clothes just because they want to WASTEFUL they are around here! I don't fit in , I'm a country boy!!

I have been reading up on and researching aerated composting, reg composting, vermicomposting mycology, bee keeping, companion planting, and native plants to plant for benifcial insects and butterflies cover crops, crop rotation and alot of other stuff Im convinced that with the technology of today and some of the Old school habits of living and farming techniques we could do alot of GOOD THING'S instead I think alot of folks are spoiled and they don't want to give up their way of life we need to sacrifice a little ppl that's what we do around here I'm a hunter and fisherman and I don't even dare to eat anything I catch or kill in the wild that's why I'm down on ppl ! I've planted more than 500 trees blue spruce and white I'm researching what native trees will hold the most carbon and those are the trees we want to start planting you know I haven't even started whining about the helpless animals we are making extinc with all these fires and shit ! ok,ok, now back to the grow topic it is bio char right???? 😂

Early Start to spring perfect time to get things going again last falls harvest is starting to run low Not Good😬 I think 🤔 I can get by🤔 apologies for the picture, girls looking wilty transplant stress just gotem In the bed today I use a mover I've heard some folks here had problems when they tried one idk I've used mine since 2008 I haven't had any problem anyone else run into an issue?
