Big Foot Scrog In Coco

If I could turn the hood 90 degrees so the pattern it throws was aligned with the tent I would probably be happy with the hps. The bright middle and dark ends are driving me crazy.. It's just not really intended for a tent or this rectangular shape at least. But it has been working fine and growing nice buds so I am not slamming hps by any means.. I think with the QB I will be able to run the tent much longer into warmer temperatures in the spring so that alone could increase my yearly yield by 25-33 percent or so.. The electric isn't too bad whole setup costs about a 1.20 a day on 12/12 I am guesstimateing, but if I can get equal results for 0.90 I'll take it. I definitely won't be throwing out the hps though !

I'd like to see it mate, I've got a spare space coming up after xmas so will be trying a near as possible replica of the HPS garden to see what happens. Obviously haven't got a laboratory so might be a few things out of my control but still excited to see HPS kick the living s*** out of LEDs ;)

I was at the tent just before lights on and noticed a good few of the leaves on plant #1 are turning dark purple. Not sure if it all happened during their overnight or if it has been a couple days and I just haven't noticed it because of the hps lighting.
Hopefully it's the cool genetic purple and not the your killing me with a crappy diet purple.. Temps have been as low as 62 for a short time fairly regularly, more usually 64 lights off and 71-75 lights on... Will try to get some pictures tomorrow, it doesn't show up hardly at all under the hps.

Oh ya, plant 2 is well on the way to completion, she's swelling up nicely ever since the gnat imposed drought was over.. Mostly darkening pistils but not really curled in much yet.. I'd say by the time boxing day is over it will be a weeks or ten days flush and chop.! Number one is probably 2 weeks behind but what can ya do!

Think it might be genetics or possibly something else, especially if you're growing a strain that has no 'purple DNA' in it.

I like low temps at night (62f is ok, I've dropped down to 12c...you'll have to covert that one ;))

But the stress it causes (alongside the defensive THC and accompanying resin) have something to do with the purpling of the leaves.

I don't know if this is similar but this was about two weeks before chop, the bud had no right to turn purple but (a very small but) there were purple parts to it.

Think you're on the way to some dank mate. Keep the airflow up and around the plants to stop mould from catching and you'll have a big silly grin on your face in no time ;)

Sorry mate, spent ages drawing circles around the leaves. Didn't save it!

And it's a bit like 'Wheres Wally?' but there is a speck of purple/blue in there somewhere ;)

Apart from wait two weeks not a lot except get high ;)

If you're not growing in the tent go for it, I've got a drying tent but it's smaller. Are you planning on putting the tent straight back into action (after cleaning of course ;))
Ya I was hoping to dry this crop all at the same time so I could start a strawberry cough or two and have them a couple nodes tall and ready to go under the MH by the time the tent was cleaned out.. But if my two plants finish two weeks apart I will have to dry the first one somewhere else and delay starting the strawberry cough seeds a little bit.
After this gnat problem that whole bedroom is getting the full treatment of cleaning! Also threw out a couple of suspect plants that were brought in from outdoors. Though I am suspicious of the cheap brick coco itself. Guess I'll never know, the gnats aren't talking.

They are in all soil that isn't meant specifically for growing weed. It's something to do with a pesticide they use to 'clean' the soil but actually attracts the fungus gnats which lay their dormant eggs in the soil which is then packed into bags.

You can kill them by cooking your soil in the oven for four hours (takes forever and is messy as f***)

Or if you can try and keep your watering to a beneficial minimum, the dormant eggs don't have a chance to hatch. It's the wet and heat which allows them to spore, you'll be able to see tiny tiny little white worms once they start hatching

I have a friend who said when he was a youngster about 50 years ago he and his brother would have to shovel 4" of dirt off the entire garden into 5 gallon buckets every fall. He said his dad and grandfather would sit in the garage all winter drinking wine and cooking the dirt on a wood burning stove one frying pan full at a time.

Now that is dedication! Lol.. I was thinking of microwaving my coco actually but I will have to wait for the wife to go back to night shifts. Or get it bone dry then soak it in a strong hydrogen peroxide bath.. Or maybe I'll just spend a few bucks and get a bag of cocotek coco or something.

They are under control now, if you look and stir things around you might see one or two. I expect I won't be able to get completely rid of them. I tried the potato on the surface trick but it didn't seem to attract any of the maggots or larvae as they say it will so hopefully that means there is very few around.
